I think Daryl is just awkward and has never been close to anyone. I definitely don't think he's gay just probably never been in a real relationship. I see him as someone who's been with women but has never been in a relationship with one because of his abusive childhood and the influence his brother had on him. When I first heard that fans thought he might be gay I laughed because I never got that from him, just that he probably has never felt the need to settle down or been close enough to. I'm pretty sure just like Merle, he's been with women but probably never loved any of them. If anything I've seen a very slow build up between Daryl and Carol, she is the only person I'd think he could ever be romantically involved with because they have a deep bond and because he is close to her. He also cares for her and definitely loves her. I think we can see this love transform just like with Rick and machone. But there is also many characters in the show who've never had a romantic interest that doesn't mean they're gay.

the special thing about daryl to me is that he turned out to be the opposite of his brother, in every sense, and it took a while before he could get to be the closest to himself that he can be in a zombie apocalypse. daryl is basically character development af so if he turned out to be gay, i just really hope the writers do it well
Easily my favourite interview. It really shows the thought process and the complexity that is put into each character. Personally I would love the plot twist of Daryl being gay. It breaks down normative barriers and personally I think it would just be adorable to watch.
Norman said "Daryl never lies" So he'd say right out what he'd think someone has the right to know. He's pretty closed. Dunno why that works so well, but Norman is so perfect for the role.

In my mind he is a bisexual virgin. He is so nonjudgemental that if he has any bi tendencies he's not going think there is anything wrong with that and he also seems so nonsexual that I can easily imagine him having somehow missed the moment to lose his virginity because I do think intimacy is difficult for him.
Equally, he could be gay, straight or asexual. I think there is a good story in there and if the writers are careful they can make any direction great. And a lot more than just showing him make out with someone for the heck of it.
Personally, I'd love if he was bisexual and started something with Jesus but that's just my own preference lol

I thought that he liked Andrea in a sexual type way. However as the series went on, I started to wonder if Daryl was gay because he had lots of chances to get with women. I thought he and Carol were going to get together but didn't happen yet. Maybe he's bisexual or even asexual. Maybe he's scared to let anyone get intimate with him. Maybe he was abused as a child. Lots of possibilities for this character. They should wait until the last episode to define is sexuality or lack thereof though.
+Rayvyn007 He was abused as a child. There is an episode which actually shows this. Daryl and Myrle are fighting in the woods, he falls and we see the scars on his back. Thier father was a violent alcoholic, that is why Daryl has trust issues and only lets a few people in Rick, Carol, Carl, Judith and Beth thus far. It will be interesting to see his relationship grow with Abe, Glenn and Michonne.

There's that scene, where they are at the women and children's center to hide out for the night, and he saw the book how to deal with abused kids, Carol takes it later on and her pack spills out he notices the book says nothing about it.

I would love to see an emotional conection between daryl and a man or woman, with more development that the bethyl arc. I believe it would be a cool way to develop his character. But it's like we see gay people in the walking dead universe all the time. Like Tara and Denise in the show. Or Jesus in the comics. Or those two people from the video games (I think one of their names was Matt?). I don't have a problem with gay people, but I just feel like they're so common in TWD. Not everyone has to be gay, you know? But again, no problems with gay people.
Not everyone has to be straight, you know? There are waaay more heterosexual characters in TWD and general media than there are gay characters and it would be nice to have the LGBTQIA+ community represented more times than we actually are. I can't believe people haven't caught onto the concept yet; where they scrambled the character traits from the comics, to throw off the television crowd. And i agree, Daryl's character isn't homosexual, but his character *is* riddled with emotionally damaging things from his past. Ultimately his character story has been about transforming from what his past represented as his identity...into the hero discovering new things about himself & other people's surprising perception of him at the same time. Good hang time w/ NR, btw.

Daryl is totally asexual! And it's good for his character, he can love people, deeply, and not get caught up in the drama of a sexual relationship. His whole focus is on loving people for who they are and what he can do to protect them.

I am, personally, a huge fan of Beth and Daryl's relationship. I've always had this internal debate on what the hell happened while they were in the funeral home, and what that 'oh' meant. Because most of those moments between them, and most of Daryl's in general, there's some unspoken stuff that hangs in the air and you have to kind of absorb yourself what you think was left unsaid. And I particullarly can't watch that scene and NOT see a romantic or sexual tension interaction, or most of them for that matter. I have NO idea If it's because I'm a teenager and I might be out of my damn mind, but I've tried to look from other people's points of view and I get it. They were not in love, not yet at least, I don't even think Daryl understood what he may be feeling in that moment or what feeling in love even means. I think it had the potential to go there, but it never quite reached it. Like the biggest 'what if'. Of course, we can't deny tho how much he cared about her and how impacting he was for his belifs. He kept mourning her after MONTHS of her death, and Rick even said 'I know you lost something back there', like his faith in humanity, maybe (?)
Why be gay? We already have Tara, Aaron and his boyfriend . Why should they turn TWD into a gay Convention? really!!! If they turn gay half the population of the survivors, they should pair them with more gay characters or not at all!!! Mercy!!! A large percentage of the audience are women that love the fact that Rick and Daryl are MALES all the way, not to mention that HET men also like the fact that some of the heroes stay males, cause they identify with them - because 's okay with equality, democracy, freedom of choices, Human Rights and all that, but hey!!! Please try to think about all of the lgbtq+ people who have grown up only seeing strait people in films and media. Never being able to see that who they are is normal because how could they know that anybody else was like them? Then once they get to that age to realize that they exist they are ridiculed even further. Now imagine that they can see their favourite character come out or openly admit to being similar to them. That would be great, right? If TWD wanted to be population accurate we'd have more black/Indigenous/Asian representation (which is a whole new argument for another day). The walking dead is constantly getting better at representation and it's very good.

I never implied something like that, obviously it is ***your*** head that is in the wrong place, plus the fact that it is not nice to go around insult people you don't know like that. Just like gay people identify with the gay heroes in the show, straight people do identify with the straight ones (mind me, I'd prefer Aaron not being gay, cause I am a straight female and the man is gorgeous and sexy in every way, but didn't go out insulting people that like him gay). Nobody is less than somebody else, it is you who said that. Furthermore, in a human extinction event, that people grow low in numbers, WHO do you think is more possible to manage to continue the species? If half the population is gay, (considering age facts, health risks, high mortality, etc etc etc) you put half down if not more, the possibility of human kind rising again. My best friend is gay and I wouldn't change him for the World, but if this show is bearly scratching reality as to its plot... mercy. My head is just FINE where it is.

I (also a strait female) wouldn't mind having Daryl be gay because I know that Daryl is a fictional character who though very attractive, is still fake. You have approximately 0% chance of ever getting with Daryl Dixon. The only way that that way of thinking would be valid is if you happened to be in the walking dead with a crush on Daryl Dixon. I personally have shipped Daryl with only female characters in the past but that does not mean that I would be against having a homosexual relationship happen between him and another male.
You can still like Daryl Dixon and think he's attractive and have your fantasies without them being affected even if he's gay.
Norman Reedus is however real. This is not us trying to affect a real persons sexuality. This is us looking at a character thinking that representation in films and shows is very important.
I'm not trying to act like you are completely wrong nor am I suggesting that your opinion is invalid. Mine is simply different I guess.

I kind of do mind if daryl turns out to be gay because it kind of just says "all the decent men are gay men" and i think alot of straight chicks kinda....think that deep down anyways, but we want it not to be true. Daryl is SUCH a good stand up decent guy whos really non judgemental with not one misogynistic bone in his body(you know like ALLLL my gay friends)....cant he be straight? please! can a guy like that please be straight just once? +Jade Moon Rosita and Daryl will get together. But it won't be a rebound. It will be very, very real for both of them. The hints are already there in season 6 episode 14 and 15. The awkwardness that Norman is talking about is on full display. Can't wait to see how that develops in season 7.

I believe that it has been confirmed that Daryl is straight.
One thing I will say is that Daryl, next to Rick, has gone through the most transformation as a character, than any other character on the show.

What happened to Norman's mic? It kept breaking up. As for Daryl, I don't think he's gay as much as he's closed off and, maybe, a virgin. If you think about it, the people in his early life before he met up with Rick, Carol and the others abused and neglected him. Made him feel useless and unworthy of love. So, if he did get into a relationship, he would shut down and that was that. Now, with Carol, he feels a connection due to her being abused. The difference is she was able to walk away where he couldn't out of some sense of family loyalty. Once Merle was dead, Carol helped Daryl see he was able to love and be loved and he, in return, gave love to his friends. But most of that love leans towards Carol. That is why he wants a future with her. She is his anchor, his rock and his soulmate. (Or at least I hope so.)

i hate when a dude doesn’t have a love interest, there’s aways that one person “OH HES GAY 😊”. Its like people are forgetting he was raised without affection. He has a hard time trusting people. He doesnt know how to express affection. I feel like that’s why he’s such a popular character. Because guys can relate. Lonely all the time, not sure how to express themselves, but courageous and self-reliant. Characters like that are always popular. Take Batman for example.
