I got smart and bought the Scan and cut a few weeks ago and did not open the box until Christmas Day. I watched all the videos including most of yours to learn how to se it that way it did not overwhelm me once I decided to try it out. I am so happy I did do that. I have a DX1200 and would like to see more of your videos for that machine.
Just received my SM 650. I am a little overwhelmed, but anxious to set it up and get started. Hopefully there are many more videos to guide this process.
Thanks Julie, I have had this machine for 6 months and was so intimidated to try it but your video was so great. I have no worries. Thank you so very much. Keep Colorful!!!! Hugs....
Maybe it's here somewhere, but I would love for you to make a collage video, showing all the aspects of the scan and cut. Just short little vinettes that show the whole gamet of options/tricks available for scan/cut. And maybe a link to show in detail the "menu item". By the way, I love your videos.
I bought this to use without a computer--but what about updates and first use/registering, etc.? DO I need that other card that was not included with mine in order to first use my machine? (It is to be delivered today!!)
Julie this was wonderful seeing the new Scan n cut2 have to save up for along period but can't wait in the meantime my dear can you tell me what the green stencil material is and where to buy?and can you make a video on sticker making using the new machine.Thank youLinda
+Linda colgan Hi Linda - this isn't Julie's You Tube Channel. You would need to contact her directly about making videos and where to buy the products. We just filmed this while we were at CHA and have no affiliation with Brother.
Does the SnC require any continuous supplies to replace/ purchase such as mats or cutting blades? What is the smaller image one can cut out without losing details? I need to scan and cut out tiny 1/4” to 1/2 “ leaf shapes in paper.
Someone ( wish I knew who) said he used his small manual die cutting machine plates for large stamps. What a great idea huh? Julie you're so fun. Thanks for your positive teaching/sharing spirit.
Wow Julie, that's amazing, I'll have to go and get some items to make my own stamps.. I don't know how you do it but to talk & demo without taking a breath haha, love your demo's! Nicholette UK xx
Hi Julie I watch soooooo many of your videos and love them. However I get confused between the machines. Here in Australia we have the CM350 but the stores dont sell the activation card. stupid right! I really want to be able to do some of the projects you've done and don't want to get stuck because I dont have the right machine. is it necessary to have the card? Im not a huge crafter only staring out do you think the 350 will do many thing's?
The best demo video I've seen. So many review and so-called demo videos show the menu set up process and then skip the actual cutting phase completely. I'm considering purchasing the Brother ScanNCut CM900 and have struggled to find any actual "in use" videos. Thank you. A question: is it possible to do multiple pass cuts on thicker card?
Great Demo. I am looking for a cutter to make Stencils for Electro-Chemical Etching. My question: is there computer software for this machine or does all the work have to be done on the small attached screen?
+Frank Morales III I would contact Brother directly to make sure the machine will do what you want it to. I think they now have software to use with the machine, but I haven't tried it yet.
Julie - I'm trying to make a negative size border on a shape... I'm making a mini album, and I've got a truck shape... I want to make my paper a bit smaller... like a 1/8 of an inch smaller. If I just make the image smaller, every thing gets smaller... the wheel base, etc... so it isn't working. I thought I could use the border tool and tell it to cut smaller rather than add a border... I hope my question is clear! I can't figure out how to do this?
This isn't Julie's channel. We filmed her at CHA. If you have a question for her or Brother, visit her blog or email her directly. I'm not able to answer your question.
I have a question I am thinking of sending mine scan and cut back I think I misunderstood what it does. say I have a colored picture and I scan it in in color and want to make it bigger after I make it bigger when I cut it is it going to be in color like I scanned it or is it going to be black
+Ann Weedman The Scan n Cut doesn't print out your paper. So if you scan it and make it bigger, it will cut out images, but it's not going to reprint your paper and then cut images. I would contact Brother directly with your questions and concerns.
Hi..I've never had any kind of machine to cut design like a cricut or a brother. I've been looking at the brother DX(it will be a Christmas present :) ) I seen a few videos saying what it won't do that you tube videos says it does. I'm confused. I wished I could (as a total beginner) i could get one to demonstrate how a beginner finds a brother scan n cut dx..
Hi - if you go to Julie's TH-cam Channel: th-cam.com/users/milkcannyc She has a playlist of lots of Brother videos. She could answer your question better than I can.
Julie, I am new at the vinyl thing. I have been embroidering for years but wanted to try the new thing out there. I have watched several of your videos and it helps some but I have the new ScanNCut2. I have no idea what I am doing. I have found designs and fonts but struggling how to download them to my computer. How to convert files from .svg , .fcm., rgm., jpeg. My embroidering designs are .pes files. really confused. I also noticed these videos are several years old and it use to be ScanNCut now it is CanvasWorkspace.
I used my regular blade at 10 and the pressure at 1 and it cut my silicone perfect, brilliant I would say.....I bought the stamp kit and it came with everything EXCEPT the deep cut blade??? So why call it a stamp kit if it's suppose to cut the silicone with the deep cut blade that it doesn't come with??? Like I said my regular blade worked like a dream......I'm still annoyed that Brother call's it a stamp kit and NO deep cut blade.....CHEAP Brother, very cheap!!!!!! However I do dig Julie and her vids!!
I have a question guys. Can I use just any thickness paper, meaning can I draw my art in any thickness of paper to be cut on this machine? Also, regular paper doesn't have any glue in the back? how can I attach my paper to the machine mat so it doesn't slice out when the machine is cutting my art.
Hi - it is best to contact Brother Customer service with your questions. This is a video we filmed at a craft show and we don't have the answers to all of your questions.
Help please I'm having the very same problem you talked about in the first of your video. I have a brothers scan n cut CM350 - is that color? I'm at work so I can't check and I know that's a stupid question. I did several ice cream cones the other day. 10 out of 12 were great the other 2 only cut out bits and pieces. Help help please Also I have my blade on 9 1/2 is that too high for 110lb Cardstock . I'm so new to this . Thank you I did get 2 little pens (color) but not all of them like you showed. Do I need to ship this back and get another oh lord !
I love the scan and cut 1, but I really do like the fact that the scanning has gotten better with being able to see color. However, I feel that for this machine to do ALL that I want in a machine...it needs to be able to emboss. If Brother figured that out, boom! sign me up! Yes, it would be cool to have the 2, but I can't justify my budget for a machine that does almost everything I want it to do. But embossing would completely change the features and the rest of the market. Please send this request to the right department. I do believe that even the model previous that I own, I still think it's better than any of the other machines that are somewhat comparable. Thanks for the demo of the current version!
Hi ! I have a problem with my machine, I don't know what wrong I hope you help me out with this problem.....when I do scan it doesn't recognize..... what I need to do , I been doing what I think its wrong but noting happen 😂😂😂😂
I'm not Julie but I do have a Scan n Cut. I like not having to link it to a computer. However, they do have that option. I like that I can hand draw designs and then cut them out. I made stencils this way. I like that you can stamp an image, scan it and cut it out. I also use it a lot for lettering for my daughter's project. Cricut has now changed - it used to be cartridge based and I personally wasn't fond of the designs. But now it works differently and I haven't tried it. Silhouette is great if you want to use all of their designs - and there are a pile. I had a Silhouette long ago, but I like the scanning feature on the Scan n Cut. Watch videos for all 3 and see which suits your style of crafting.
For example - when I made stencils I was able to make my design, use the Scan n Cut to Scan my design, save it to the machine and then cut it as many times as I wanted all from the machine - no computer. When you have a stamped image you can use the machine to Scan it and Cut it all at the same time. Everything happens in the machine. I have the original machine, so the new one does even more. The point is you don't need a computer to use the machine. However, if you wanted to use a computer to make designs - they do have that option.
It is my understanding that yes, it cuts material. A lot of quilters buy it. However, you will have to contact them to see if you need to treat the material first.
Used my scan and cut 4 times and already the mat has lost it stickness, this is the second machine I bought because I thought it was me but no how do we keep the mat sticky
Julie you are awesome, I really love your tutorials, EXCEPT u talk wayyyy tooo fast for some of us ladies & gents...so could you plzzzzzzzzz think about talking slower. OMG So Hard to get all your instructions without repeating many times...and I have to say I am disappointed my machine can't do everything like #2 can do, especially for us who are on a very limited budget. Thank you in advance for replying to my comment...Marlamae

Cool demo. Nice to see the origins for some of the carry over features and products.

Do you have to change cut settings like you do on the cameo or does it automatically recognize what material and adjust cut settings automatically??
Please contact Julie or Brother directly with your questions.

Please send your question to Julie directly. Or if you have questions about the machines you can also email Brother.
What is it that you use for the Masking /Stenciling/ Stamping
I think it was a kit Scan and Cut had released. Check out the Scan n Cut website to see what they have available.

Hi Julie will brother come out with a embossed tip? This would make the scan and cut complete.

I REALLY LIKE THE WAY YOU DEMO , THANKS
Hi love your video, where do you get the silicon stamp sheets? I cannot find anything locally (Ohio).
Just Google it. I did a google search and found this: www.amazon.com/Brother-CASTPKIT1-Stamp-Starter-Kit/dp/B015YCF10W
It looks like you are using pigment ink (I think). Do dye inks or distress inks work as well?
Distress Inks would work for sure. Dye inks don't really work as well for spreading since they tend to dry quickly.
Thanks for doing these videos Christina!
Thanks Julie for your demo and awesome ideas too!!!

Nezzy's Brazilian Sweets - Brigadeiros Me too! sooooo excited
Can the machine cut on sticker paper. For use for planner stickers?
Sticker paper is quite thin, so I don't see any problems. You may just want to clean the blade after of any sticky residue.

When you say scan and cut, do you mean her brother?
I don’t want to scan in one place send it to another place and then cut on a separate place. I like everything together.
