From an American who loves to camp- you need screens for your doors and windows. You can get magnetic screens for your back doors. We have a lot of bugs from mosquitos to scorpions. Absolutely necessary. Here in the USA we also have fire blankets which work great. When planning your trip in the states please think about the time of year by the state. South is very hot in summer, north and upper northeast is freezing in winter and early spring.
My 3 favorite new phrases: "Come at me bro!", "Get out of my comments" and "God loves you" 😆😂🤣 I'm a recent subscriber and you guys are absolutely my new favorite channel! These were all excellent recommendations, thank you! ☮️❤️😎
❤ love u guys ...ya make me laugh so hard! I'm Granny Chuck Super Nova from up-North Wisconsin, US (we all have Ice-Age Trail names)...hope u come visit Wisconsin when you're in the US. I can't wait to see how your mom's kitchen turns out. ...And I just want to say , I appreciate the list of favorite items in your van. I live in a school bus up here in the tundra, and my favorite thing is my wood stove, we couldn't survive with out it. I will be purchasing that electric squeegee breath vapor sucker , that my friend is a game changer. I've got a lot of windows. 🦃 Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving! I know your in Ireland, but there's nothing wrong with adding extra holidays to your list. 🎉 Here in Wisconsin we have a lot of Irish, especially in New London. The saying is....The Irish would've conquered the whole of the United States, if it wasn't for whiskey.
Keely please sneak a Christmas tree in, Philly will love it once it's there 😂. Thanks for all your great ideas. I already have a fire extinguisher in my car and gave one to my son aswell. I cry every time I see that video of your van fire and the stress it caused you ❤
Something like a Sawyer filter would probably be a good shout for your water filtration if you don’t want to plumb something in. Small, really reliable and durable, they’ll go for decades if you look after them. Just don’t let it freeze.
As an Italian who adores coffee, I concur that the Moka pot is the best & definitely for van life! Of course, the Bialetti is the best one too alongside the LaVazza! 😊
Just found you guys and loving your videos! I've got an upgrade for you.. might help to slim down your packing for your big trip. I've found a 'pan' that would tick both your Ridge money and your cooking pot thing. We have an SQ Professional and love it!! (we were even thinking of putting an induction hob in our new van but because this pan won't work with induction, we've changed our whole plan... because of a saucepan!!!) Close the lid and it works as a cooker, pizzas, stews, crumpets, pancakes, sandwiches, eggs, everything. Or open it up and use it as a flying pan. The only downside is it doesn't come apart like the ridge monkey but super easy to clean, wipe it out, fill it with washing water close it up, wiggle and pour out. LOVE IT!! Thanks for all your tips! Buying fire extinguisher now!!!
Reallllyyy useful video you guys ! I know you told me to get some of this stuff when we hung out … but now with your links that made it super easy peasy for me ahahahah literally got loads off your list ! So Thankyou ☺️☺️
That's a fair assessment with starlink in Europe, hardly worth the $180/mth (or whatever it is) if 90% of your travels is covered by a mobile network. Understandable that it's more practical in large countries like the US and Australia where you can be multiple hours from any civilization whatsoever, let alone mobile coverage.
Finding a good pillow has been the bane of my life for the last 7 yrs!!!!!! I like to sleep with my head up (not like actually, I need to or I wake up with really, really bad headaches due to my sinuses) it sucks!!!! Ps. Get a Christmas 🎄 😂🎉
I got a goose feather pillow a few months back and it's been awesome! It was about not breathing in microplastics every night, but they fluff up and provide exactly the support I want. Expensive but worth it.
Great list you two. I would add a fire blanket. I have one hung near the kitchen that you just quickly pull out from the bottom, it's by TONYKO. If you have a fire on the stove area you just pull this out and smother it. Thanks for another informative fun filled video and yes, decorate!
A travel size Berkey would serve you well. I have one in my apartment. It’s small and very effective. Especially if traveling in the US. Floride is ubiquitous in the US. Berkey has filters for fluoride.
Totally agree, packing cubes are great, they are so good for saving space and organising and a good mattress and pillow are life changing fab video as always ❤xx
We started with a collapsible ladder and it was frankly a pain, I dropped it on my foot at least once for instance. We ended up getting one on the back door. We have mounted our traction boards on it and then above them our petrol tank (it was stinking out the van inside) and have used a bike lock to secure both items. It would be very hard to climb the ladder with those on it. They are quick to take down though. If you are relying on a water filter then make sure you read up on heavy metal filtering and also blue green algae (cyanobacteria). Most filters do not safely treat cyanobacteria. It is really important in the US. With an air compressor, the ones that will inflate multiple tires to the high pressure that vans need are not cheap or small. The cheaper small ones are not suitable for most van tyres We don't have a cover for our fan because every night we have it open at least a crack so a cover wouldn't be very helpful. For the cab we usually use a curtain that is L shaped and goes across the cab and along the slider. It is on an IKEA curtain rail.
Y'allon US Thanksgiving yesterday, I woke up to a white van next door. Neighbor's family has been living van life full time for a month and is loving it. I told my kids it's a sign I'm meant to do it! Be safe, excited for you to come to America ❤
The USB lighters are amazing! I have one and I am not even a van lifer, but I use it for lighting candles and such. I love that they are better for the environment. ❤
On the same page about coffee, even the brand. My jump starter is also an air compressor, usb charger, and light. VERY useful. Made by Vitoman. Not a good idea to do your dishes in a body of water, even Dr Bonner's. I've used it to bathe with or wash the dogs and now I question that practice even though it essentially disappears. Do dishes away from the water source then, let it filter back through the earth if you're going to dump it. You've been lucky with the water. Thanks for the new ideas to check out - if available in the US.
Thanks so much for the advice, yeah i dont think i would ever do dishes in a body of water either, like i see people doing the in river etc, but i would feel weird using any sort of product directly in a body of water even if it did claim to be environmental, i would prob pour water into some long grass or something instead.
@@phillyandkeely The food itself isn't something the water and critters in it is used to, either. I suppose how fast the water is moving would make a difference. Better to be careful of the planet and the critters we share it with. Be safe in the US.
Along with the air compressor have a tire repair kit as well...Nice video! We have a travel trailer but do have a lot of those things you mentioned and yes crocs are not pretty but super convenient. Get yourself some charms for your crocs you will love them!!!
Can opener - the French Nogent Super Kim can opener - the can opener that has the longest name for a very tiny but mighty can opener. Worth every penny. Been using the same one for over a decade. Say that name 10 times fast. Nesting pots/pans with removable handle. And a uke or backpack guitar, or next best thing - a Bluetooth speaker.
I am gonna have to get one of these can openers for the name only. I still use my granny's tin opener, it must be 70 years old at this point and very retro, but the thing just keeps on going! Great suggestions, we have all three of those things under our bed 🎸wish we had more time to play instruments, but always time to listen to music ❤️
Nothing could (should?) replace Granny’s can opener - “they” don’t make ‘em like they used to! I 2nd that your clips are so very very fun & cheerful - you two have a great combo! dynamic on screen! Merci from Van Isle - come visit!
Guys you should only let the air out your tyres as a last resort when you're absolutely stuck. Down to 5psi then back up to normal as soon as you're out the sticky situation, else you'll totally ruin your tyres! Maybe those grip board things if you're likely to get stuck a lot?
This is a great list, thank you! Don't feel like you have to bring it all with you to the States though. Many of these things, a portable tire inflater or jump starter, etc. can be found on the cheap once you are here. If there's one thing you'll find all over the US, it's a bargain! 😊
Great vlog, love the banter and that was a close call on the ridgemonkey handle removal! We used to have a teloscopic ladder to access the roof and the solar panels. What a faff having to get out of the boot and they are dangerous, make sure your fingers/thumbs are out of the way when closing up as they shut fast. Also you have to wrap the ends touching the van to prevent scratches and if you have a roof deck, you could be sat up there and someone could walk off with your ladder. We now have a fixed ladder and a roof deck. I was worried about people climbing on the roof, but we don't have a any big roof vents, so no access in that way, so all they could do was sit on the roof! Have a good week, hope the kitchen is coming along well.
Interesting info about the ladder! I do think fixed ones just look awesome aswell!! But on future van I do plan to have a giant skylight that would be sick!
@phillyandkeely if you had a giant skylight then no ladder needed, climb onto the roof through it. Fixed ladder good for drying towels and for attaching one part on when tying up a clothes line. God knows how you have the enthusiasm for another van build.
The other kitchen storage hack I don’t often see is nesting. The awareness that most bowls fit inside your pot(s) and most plates fit inside your frying pan(s)….yes you can use your silicone hot pads or towels to protect surfaces. And those sets (like magma and stansport) that place a sauté pan upside down can also fit plates upside down inside that sauté/fry pan.
With the little stovetop oven when you said you hadn’t used it cause you didn’t know what it was I laugh out loud and said “thats such a Keely move” and my husband said “and by that you mean such a Courtney move?” And called me out for being so similar to you Keely 😂 cause that was EXACTLY what I meant
Great list! And the Christmas decorations need to go up no later than Dec 1 and should definitely stay up through mid January…or at least through New Year’s Eve. 🎉🎄
Just one thing you didn't mention ... please make sure that your fire extinguisher is in date. It will be printed on the canister because when you need to use it, you want to know it's gonna work. Love your content and your enthusiasm 🙏👍🏻
Best list ever! I don’t live in my van but I swear by many of those items… especially the Omnia, coffee pot, jumper pack (that’s what we call it here in Aus), packing cubes, air compressor, leveling ramps… love (and use) them all… I choose paracetamol before instant coffee!!! Come back to Australia… I’ll lend you my Omnia 🩷
What a great video, superb advice and gadgets, got the bluetti, brilliant, and having seen your coffee pots, love them and managed to pick up 2 small ones for £1 each from a charity shop, 1 of which still had tags on!! Been looking for what you call th stove top oven, that's next along with a 2nd fire extinguisher and jump start kit. Keep up with the great videos guys, your mums kitchen is going to be sooo good and looking forward to your trip to the USA. If you're doing a van conversion yourselves while you're there I'd live to watch that too. Long reply I know, but thanks guys 🎉😊
Hey you guys Great video - all essential items for van life- a few we need to get too… just FYI we used T- mobile unlimited prepaid sim in the US just recently, it was $50 a month, only issue was that you could not hotspot it. You could pay an extra $10 to get 10GB for hot spotting but it did not seem to go far. Canada is extortionate and very little signal in most of the country except in the cities. Baja was also bad so I guess for you guys a Starlink will def be the answer.
Now then, Philly let the poor girl have a small christmas tree.🎄 Fire blanket is a good thing for the kitchen. Now get back to that kitchen build guys, Christmas is nearly here 👍🐸
Thank you that was very useful I have bought a new fire extinguisher the old one is 10 years old so it time to replace. I all bought a jump starter for the van. Thanks again for the prompt xx
For your American trip since you are starting in winter, i would start in the south. And work ÿour way north while staying in the south at least till March. If you're in fort walton beach florida you'll love the white soft sands of the beaches here. (You can swim in them in February (which is our coldest month, even though we rarely see 32°f = 0°c. & if we do it's only until the sun comes up and we are warm again)
We are going to be doing the opposite, typical because we are delayed our seasons are now all going to be wrong. But we are going to be buying our van in Canada as it's easier for us to buy there as a tourist and we have a friend we are going to be visiting to renovate the van in BC, so we will be there at the coldest worst time haha, but we have been in Japan in vans at -26 so if we get a diesel heater we should hopefully be ok 🤣🤣 and we will be in Florida in summer because we are meeting our niece and nephew there for their school holidays. So all the wrong seasons in the wrong places, but it will be an adventure nonetheless. If it's anything like being in the outback in summer at 47degree heat at least it will make some good memories haha
Keely Crocs (toilet shoes) are perfectly acceptable as long as no one EVER sees you in them ….. you shouldn’t go out in public in them unless it’s the dead of the night 😉
Hi Phily and Keely. I recommend the winnerwell 14 cup coffee pot. You have enough for two large mugs and two on the road ice or hot coffee's. Oh, you got one thing. A good butter knife for the sandwiches
Yes good knife so important!!! Yeah we defo need a bigger coffee pot, we used to have a 9 cup one, this wee 6 cup one isn't enough for two big mugs. 14 cup one sounds huge haha, maybe we will get a giant one for Christmas.
PS I home-made blackout screens with insulation bubble wrap and blackout fabric from Amazon. They do the trick while I save for the truly excellent ones from Living in a Bubble. They’re vehicle-specific and attach to the window frame with magnets.
I just purchased the Living In A Bubble window screens. They’re great (as are the flyscreens). Loved following you on your Australia trip even though I thought you were insane going to the centre when you did 🤯
Seeing a new vid from you guys always makes me smile. FYI - the link for the Jerry Can water filter is the same as the collapsible ladder, and I don’t think it is a good filter.😉😆
Aeropress is amazing, but use whatever works for you unless its instant! Instant coffee belongs in the bin. Get decorating, ignore Philly he doesn't know what he's missing. And get those Christmas tunes playing too. Love you two, great energy and banter.
Good advice on all items. Love my Bluetti and got to get one of those stovetop ovens. I so love your laughter and down to earth approach to life. I never miss your videos and set my sister onto your vlog. She and her husband love your vids. ❤😊
Yes to the Christmas decorations! We've got a lot of your suggestions and just about to order the candle lighter... great idea! Another fun filled vlog thanks guys 😊 Oh and God loves me! ❤😂😂 xxxxx
Good advice and belly laughs. Love watching Keeley crack herself up and Philly, I'm with you mate on the decorations. How about a compromise. One of those fold out Xmas trees about a foot tall? with blinking lights built in? btw, immediately after watching your vid I ordered a window saliva vac. Yum.
I am impressed with the lighter , I have the blow torch type, great for the bbq . I have a fire extinguisher, and my daughters bought me two of the fire extinguishers that are like a can of body spray. I am so proud keely still wearing her crocs, they are the best. And a pee funnel. Guys. A curtain rail in front cab, hold mine on with cable ties, clothes hangers that have 5 bars , each one holds loads of stuff, throw them on the bed when on the move and on the rail when static. I also bought a maxspeedingrods 3500 generator. I Love to hear yous laugh, it's infectious. ❤ Michelle x
That sounds fun!!! I don't think we will be anywhere near AZ at that time though, but maybe if we go for the full year we can line it up for next time!!

Yeah all our stuff fits inside eachother it's definitely a must, but I've seen these sets you speak of they are next level perfection!
After arranging for all that kitchen fitting training you have to give her a tree and all the decorations for the van. 2000 multi coloured lights.
I totally agree!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣 yay we are Alike! I promise to cook you something in it when we all go climbing together in US ❤️❤️
If you have trouble with shoe laces like me, I use velcro fasteners.
Gonna have to look those up!
Rainbow screens for your front window they are fabulous keeps us cool in summer warm in winter ❤
Thanks Lynn, will look these up now ❤️
Your just what I needed, thanks for the laughs!
Thanks Deby ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for the video! I am buying a couple of the items! Definitely worth it to have holiday decorations! Walk in peace, guys!!
Thanks so much Anna Marie ❤️
I need to get that Window Vac for my house! We have an old house and we get so much condensation on the windows in the winter!
It's so satisfying 💪💪
Great list! And the Christmas decorations need to go up no later than Dec 1 and should definitely stay up through mid January…or at least through New Year’s Eve. 🎉🎄
I completely agree!!!!
For a couple of weeks of joy, yes it is worth it. Thanks for this, I've been wondering about your oven, it seams so versatile.
Thanks Debbie, yes we love the oven so much!
Just one thing you didn't mention ... please make sure that your fire extinguisher is in date. It will be printed on the canister because when you need to use it, you want to know it's gonna work.
Love your content and your enthusiasm 🙏👍🏻
Thanks Nick, that's a great point to add thankyou 🙏🙏
add first aid kit
Yeah that's a good recommendation!! We have one but never thought about mentioning it 💪
I am also a big fan of Dr Bronner’s!!! The lavender one is my fave! Taking a shower with that at night before bed helps me to sleep better.
Ohhh that's sounds so good, gonna have to get the lavender one next!
Paracetamol before instant 🤣🤣 brilliant.
Hey you guys
Great video - all essential items for van life- a few we need to get too… just FYI we used T- mobile unlimited prepaid sim in the US just recently, it was $50 a month, only issue was that you could not hotspot it. You could pay an extra $10 to get 10GB for hot spotting but it did not seem to go far. Canada is extortionate and very little signal in most of the country except in the cities. Baja was also bad so I guess for you guys a Starlink will def be the answer.
Yeah I think over in Canada/US we will defo need to get starlink as such poor coverage in remote places
A hot water bottle - a definite for colder climates!….currently in Montenegro in our van in the snow and toasty 😂. Love your videos ❤
Yesssss defo need a water bottle for the van, classic!
I Love my mokka pot, couldnt live without it. I have even convinced my son. I would never have tried it if it wasnt for you two
Awww that's so cute to hear, glad you love it!!
I always called the Ridge monkey a mountain pie maker. Love your videos. You two are adorable!
Mountain pie maker 🤣🤣 brilliant
Used our topdon the other day for first time.. Quality bit if kit for the van 👍👌
Actually so good isn't it!! Dummy proof that it warns you if you've connected terminals wrong haha
Now then, Philly let the poor girl have a small christmas tree.🎄
Fire blanket is a good thing for the kitchen.
Now get back to that kitchen build guys, Christmas is nearly here 👍🐸
Yeah we have a fire blanket too, that's a good one we should have mentioned. Don't worry we've been working hard on the kitchen too 💪💪
Thank you that was very useful I have bought a new fire extinguisher the old one is 10 years old so it time to replace. I all bought a jump starter for the van. Thanks again for the prompt xx
Glad to know you are going to be better protected against fire now 💪💪
Would love to see you decorate for Christmas!
I would love to decorate for Christmas. Maybe when this kitchen is finally done we will get on the Christmas vibes in the van!
Crocs are just comfy! Nice arches and light weight !
They are indeed!
& if we do it's only until the sun comes up and we are warm again)
prices of airfare usually means arriving in New York
Yes decorating for holidays is worth it 🎄
Yesss definitely!! 🎄🎄
Let Keeley get a Christmas tree!!!!! 🎄🎅🏻🤶🏻🎁
Definitely worth the effort Christmas decorations van or home or whatever go for it don't miserable old sod❤❤🌲🤶
Yesss Christmas is coming soon ❤️🎄🎄
Keely Crocs (toilet shoes) are perfectly acceptable as long as no one EVER sees you in them ….. you shouldn’t go out in public in them unless it’s the dead of the night 😉
🤣🤣🤣 so true!!
Yeah I think we should make our own too until we get fancy ones! I'm gonna have to look up these magnetic ones you mentioned.
@@phillyandkeelyI like the foil-backed bubble-wrap insulation from builders merchants, you can pop a few strategic bubbles & stick magnets there
I just purchased the Living In A Bubble window screens.
🤣🤣🤣 thanks dawn I will fix the link now 💪
My jump starter and my miniature air compressor are two favorite things.
So good 💪💪 we defo need to get an air compressor!!
Aeropress is amazing, but use whatever works for you unless its instant! Instant coffee belongs in the bin.
Get decorating, ignore Philly he doesn't know what he's missing. And get those Christmas tunes playing too.
Love you two, great energy and banter.
Thanks Julie, yesss I need to get the Christmas tunes going!!
i had to come back and say head torch - petzl - wouldn t be without it...
That's a good one!!
Still watching this, ehhhhh Philly omg a Christmas tree and decor a must. Keely I'm with you.
Yessss definitely a must!!
Yes! Decorate your van!!! 🎄 🎄 🎄
Yessss defo need to!!
Yes it's worth it decorate for Xmas
Yesss we defo have to!
Love this. What you two absolutely excel at. So relatable. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Aww thankyou ❤️
Yep, worth it 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄❤
Yesss
Good advice on all items. Love my Bluetti and got to get one of those stovetop ovens. I so love your laughter and down to earth approach to life. I never miss your videos and set my sister onto your vlog. She and her husband love your vids. ❤😊
Aww thanks so much Wendee ❤️❤️ glad you are still loving your bluetti
You two are too funny! Thank you! 😂😅
Aww thanks Carla ❤️
Fire Extinguisher should be in ever home too, inc a oil blanket, just in case.
Totally agree 💪
works for any oil, not just fat. not a bad blanket for people too.
Yes to the Christmas decorations!
We've got a lot of your suggestions and just about to order the candle lighter... great idea!
Another fun filled vlog thanks guys 😊
Oh and God loves me! ❤😂😂
xxxxx
Good advice and belly laughs. Love watching Keeley crack herself up and Philly, I'm with you mate on the decorations. How about a compromise. One of those fold out Xmas trees about a foot tall? with blinking lights built in? btw, immediately after watching your vid I ordered a window saliva vac. Yum.
Gotta suck up that breath juice 🤣🤣🤣 glad you enjoyed it ❤️❤️
Great watch as always 👊🏿🙏🏿
Thankyou ❤️❤️
Thanks so much Michelle! Blowtorch one sounds awesome!
@@phillyandkeely saves you getting too close and burning the hairs 😂😂
It's me again. Christmas decorations are a must. And it would be cheaper to make your own blackout screens or curtains.
Definitely a must!! Yeah I think we should get crafty and make our own!
My only wish is that you guys made a 128 Essential items every vanlifer needs right now 😇
❤️❤️❤️
That shirt looks like a great jacket!
Guys! When you come to America you have to go to the RTR in quartzite AZ. It occurs every January. RTR=Rubber Tramp Rendevouz!!!
That sounds fun!!! I don't think we will be anywhere near AZ at that time though, but maybe if we go for the full year we can line it up for next time!!
🙌🙌🙌🙌 great vlog love watching you both 😊
Thankyou Jaynie ❤️
Couple of things added to my wish list! Thanks guys! And I’m sure the ‘regardless or irregardless’ debate is strong in Martha 😂
🤣🤣🤣
