Although the hit material Chinn/Chapman gave them was of course the very best, Brian, Andy, Steve and Mick on the single-B-sides and albums regularly put on a huge shovel and rocked what it costs! "Medussa" - most powerful outgoing rocker, which was released in Europe in 1974 exclusively on "Desolation Boulevard". Awesome track - thanks a lot for sharing it from Germany!

For you Vinyl-45..... Medusa is basically and originally on the Album Desolation Boulevard, on that UK version 1974. It´s written by Andy Scott.
The other tracks are Six-Teens, Solid Gold Brass, Turn It Down, Medusa, Lady Starlight, Man With The Golden Arm, Fox On The Run (long version), Breakdown, My Generation.

Just listen to that freakin' groove behind the guitar solo. My god, that is really something cool.

I was 17 when I had this 45. A lot of these old "B sides" were really good, there

Cool download. Always wanted to hear the 45 recording again. This was the way I originally heard this one. Flip side of Action. 45's sounded so much more powerful.

great song and band they could rock with the best of them had sweet played with the who at charlton rock in 1974.it would have kick.started there rock carreer in the uk.but beacause of what happend to brian at that time it didnt happen.they didnt tour the uk after 1974.or play any festivals big mistake.all those great albums and songs like this went under the radar the so called real rock fans never got to here them.which was a shame

Ha! The gong totally cuts off at the end on my 45 B- side too. They were like "Ah, fuck it, it's a B-side!"

"Desolation Boulevard" has been released in USA 1975, but it hasn't this one. It'ssome like collection with two singles and five from Sweet Fanny Adams + three from the European "Desolation Boulevard": "The Six Teens", "Fox on the run" and "Solid Gold Brass".

Very good rock band!!!!Unfortunately they recorded many Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman bubble gum singles. (their greatest hits) .... but they rocked whenever they could!!!!

There was also a bonus track on the 2005 reissue which was a home demo of this song labeled as: track 14 "Medussa" (home demo - previously unreleased) - 5:51 . It sounds exactly like if it was a song by The Who. The melody and harmonies, the I Can See For Miles type chords...very Who-like, it even has that pinball wizard/I'm free type guitar riff in it towards the end (@5:15 lol another Who reference!). The lyrics are void of any of Medusa myth, so I imagine the song wasn't even called that at this stage of its evolution. I would also imaging they thought it sounded too much like the Who and did some major rewriting to give it their own sound. I really dig it, but I can't seem to find it here on the TH-cam.

if they don't stop looking they will turn to stone sounds like a medusa reference

@@needtashow Exactly. Also "my golden hair will turn to snakes". Another Medusa legend aspect in addition to the one you mentioned.

I am looking down on Athina's claims of fake. (Athina is the greek female goddess that Athens is named after. That's the first sentence of the song!!!!

Yes! The US version was the one I got started on, but the original UK Desolation Boulevard is the default for me now.

The Sweet were my favourite band as a kid. If I didn't better know, though, I'd say this song sounds more like Uriah Heep.

The B-Side of Little Willy, called Man From Mecca is a good track too, as well as the B-Side of Fox On The Run, called, Burn On The Flame.

Burn On The Flame is totally righteous. As good as Desolation Boulevard was, they should have made room for that on there.

...man from Mecca..has the most brutal backward grr solo in the history of heavy rock...outside of JIMI
