This 1974 Musikladen performance is incredibly raw, showing The Sweet for the first time, with all their glam and glitter stripped away. The rock band they wanted to always be.
Wow Mick sure gets a workout on those drums could watch him all day long, I am glued to the screen watching him spin those drum sticks without dropping them. Wish they were all still with us I miss there music. Going to see Andy's Sweet in December.
R.H.F. has feetwood Mac , who used to be a rock band till Stevie Nicks turned them into a country kinda band 😏 , lot of Motown stuff also , not a lot of rock bands there in the R.H.F. so really it ain't no biggy being in it I think 😂
Never saw him top any list... not even reader's polls. Nobody even thinks of Brian Connolly when great singers are mentioned. (Apart from biased and ignorant Sweet freaks).
@@grahamharris6927 You're just an ignoramus typing drivel on here. Okay, go ahead... list the "many types of music" performed by Sweet. It will be a bloody short list.
3 instruments & a voice and they fill a hall with sound! Live they are spectacular. In music history they are vastly underrated & under appreciated except by those who have always known they were ALWAYS SWEET!
Run-of-the-mill singer, with no accolades. Not even named the best in reader's polls back then. Stood on the spot most of the time too. Just boring, overall.
Just another proof what a great band SWEET was. Top notch musicians. One of the most underrated bands in rock history. I remember those endless and never ending comparisons with The Bay City Rollers back in the day. That's so ridiculous. You cannot compare oranges with apples. The SWEET could really play (do you really want to compare Mick Tucker with Derek Longmuir or Andy Scott with Eric Faulkner. I mean...really?) and they were a hard rocking band. They had the reputation of a singles band for teenyboppers with no real substance. A band that you can't take serious. Nothing is further away from the truth. I go thus far to say that the Sweet were a huge influence for QUEEN. I doubt that early QUEEN would not have sounded like they did without SWEET. Thanks for the upload!
I agree about the most. But remember: When the first Queen album was released in 1973, Sweet had not yet released any of their hard rocking albums, just some bubblegum crap albums. But, yes, they had released some hard rocking singles, for sure. But sometimes I think that the first Queen album in fact inspired Sweet, before they recorded Sweet FA, Desolation Boulevard and Give Us a Wink!
Also an album simply named Sweet (Which was B-Sides Compilations Mostly Hard Rock tunes form 1972-1973. Particularly to be Sold in America!) was Released around the same time as Queens first Record on July 1973.
@@staernpeder So you think queen never heard 2 years worth of sweets hard rocking b sides before 1973? Plus sweets first album which you called crappy pop had some heavy songs on it too.
These guys REALLY ROCKED and were never really given credit for it. They rocked just as hard as Zep, Queen and Sabbath. From what I understand Sabbath were even inquiring about their production methods because they liked the sound they were getting. They led the way for many later Glam bands including Motley Crue!!!Def Leppard has also done some of their stuff live. They were great live and Brian's voice was perfect for hard rock music !!I have loved them since I ordered their cassettes from the old Columbia house buy one get some free deal years ago.I was listening to this when my friends were starting to listen to Kiss and I thought kiss was weak compared to Sweet musically!!
You are quite right although it was Queen who ,,took,, the idea and being influenced by Sweet doing the Vocal Harmonys in early seventees...You can hear that on the sHeer Heart Attack Album....Rest is kinda History.
I played in a glam covers band and bought a copy of Ballroom Blitz to learn it. I was surprised at the quality of the recording compared to a lot of other songs at the time. One of the best guitar riffs in rock.
I think this is the Sweet at their prime, `74, Sweet Fanny Adams! Heavy and rockin` and Brian`s voice, their all so on it, great footage. I seen them in `85 as they toured Australia, criss crossing the country many times, seems like they were always playing, so i kept seeing them, maybe the 3 originals, cant remember xactly, defiantly Andy singing and Mick, maybe Steve, and they rocked hard and loud blowing everyone away, man, so much fun. Cheers boys, long live the Sweet.
Andy and mick in that line up no steve. Mal mcnulty was on bass(sang later on) paul mario day vocals and phil lanzon keyboards. Seen them a few times myself in 85 and 86.
Thinkin of Sweet did abs wrong, they never really were tourin in UK after 1974. They should have, but the success in continent Europe and especially in west-Germany was HUGE....But as we know, Brian couldn´t take it and his tragedy was alcohol,,,what a sad loss for all of us who admired Sweet and especially Brian´s face+style+vocals and his charisma. You were Unique, Brian.

Such great sound from each member. I am confused as to why I didn't know about them in the 70s. This band has more talent than some from the same era. Wow!!!! Enjoying their talents now.
I missed out on their prime because, sadly, it coincided with my university years and I was too busy studying. My brother saw them live, but never mentioned to me how great they were at the time.
