"Found some old computer files in a busted up terminal a few klicks south of our main base.
They mentioned a group of intrepid warriors who would devote themselves to fighting robots inside a computer system.
They called themselves the "Scrublords."

five years late, but Rise of the Robots was actually a huge success. I guess they were drunk enough to think they actually made a good game and should make a sequel instead of realizing that it was just that they overhyped the fuck out of it to the point where they literally could've shipped a dog turd in every box and it still would've sold well.

I loved that rock'em sock'em robots toy line, came at a time where you just didn't see metal toys any more, let alone with interchangeable parts that don't full apart all the time. Never knew there was a game for it, good to see it holds similar quality.

I had two of the Rock'Em Sock'Em Robots figures, you could switch out the parts using a little metal screwdriver thing. I had a yellow construction robot and a white space themed one. They were pretty cool.

War looks like they made the sprite normal sized and then shrunk everything and moved it down closer to the p.o.v., because they just realized half way through that some of the characters where on that plane, and they didn't have time to "fix" the rest.

When we were kids we didn't have consoles or good games, all we had was an old PC and a pirated copy of Rise 2. God we must have played it hundred of hours. This game is my childhood.

Holy shit I've played this... A long time ago a friend of mine got this at a flea market or something and we played it at his house. We were both dumb kids who were shit at fighters so we actually had a pretty good time with it. Years later I learned of the infamous "Rise of the Robots" and that it had a sequel, but I never put two and two together until now.
Awesome that they got to play Rock em Sock em. I gave them a copy of the game at Momocon as a push.... So I'll take credit for half this episode XD

To be fair, I play fighting games on a pc and that smooth motion of the arrow keys thing makes perfect sense. That's actually really solid advice on how to do moves on a keyboard.
