I recently came from the last 12.9 iPad Pro to the new 11” iPad 2024. I was yearing for more of a tablet experience. The 11” is perfect and works really well the keyboard.
Just bought a 11 inch. It already feels big. But if u really wanna utilize stage manager the most, 12.9 makes sense. But for me, 11 inch is the perfect size and it is portable. Forget portability for the 12.9.
How have you all found the typing experience on the 11 inch Magic Keyboard? Slightly worried it’ll be a bit cramped with the smaller keys eg caps lock, tab
I agree with everything you said. My 11 inch M4 iPad Pro is so perfect and I’m so glad I switched to the smaller one after 5 years of 12.9 inch. I hate it when 99% of internet people have the exact same voice, “oh iPad needs to run macOS otherwise it’s a waste”. No one has anything interesting to say. So glad I found your video.

Someone using an iPad as an iPad and reviewing it as an iPad. How refreshing. Almost every M4 iPad Pro review is talking about how it isn't a MacBook. I've actually been considering jumping ship from my 14" M3 Max to a 13" M4 iPad Pro. It'll do everything I need it to do but with a few inconveniences so I've been going back and forth on it since the iPad's release. Thanks for the review.
Best review for an iPad! I lost count how many I have watched and they just read the spec sheet. This goes into depth and confirms is not a laptop replacement but a tool to extend and optimize the work flow.
One of the best M4 iPad Pro reviews I've seen on TH-cam so far. It's so much better when the person doing the review actually uses the product as they can share detailed insights from years of usage.
I couldn't agree more. I picked up the 13" M4 1TB model. I have been using it to work remotely. Pretty neat I can do my job as a Systems Administrator from only a tablet. I'm using an external monitor, then I VPN into my work network and RDP my VM. Teams is up throughout the day on my iPad display and I work fully off of the external 4k Monitor. The new magic keyboard is really nice, it is a must have.

I’ve been using my new M4 iPad Pro 13 inch with one terabyte for the past three days strictly for photo editing in Lightroom and Photoshop and wow is this thing so much faster importing raw camera files from my Sony A7rv and then when I export them and render them to JPEG. It is even faster compared to my iPad Pro 12.99 with 1tb. the new Apple Pencil Pro is so much more responsive than the second generation Apple Pencil. It don’t lag like the second generation. I know there’s a bunch of people that wish it had macOS, but I am really happy with the new M4 chip.
This is a great review! I have a MacBook for video and photography work, but for occasional photo editing, watching videos and sketching for my videos iPad is perfect. I ordered mine today and I’m going to pick it up later today. 12.9 was way too big for me, and I realized that 10.5 iPad Pro was my favorite iPad mainly because of its size.
You explained it perfectly - It is all according to everyone's use case - what fits their specific needs best. I upgraded to the M4 iPad Pro 13 from the M1 iPad Pro 12.9 and haven't looked back. I have another M1 iPad Pro 11" that is performing another function when I am in my studio. I also have the Mac Studio for the heavy lifting cases. But it is easy to ping the iPads if you don't need it and can poo pah them randomly. Too much negative talking heads on TH-cam that really don't need the real features that this iPad has now.
I have a 2018 11”iPad Pro, today FedEx is delivering my new 11”m4 iPad Pro. But after watching this video. I won’t even open the new iPad. I’ll be returning it to Att Thank you for the honest review
I’m watching this on the 13” and think I’m going to change it to the 11” next week. I was going to get the smaller one to start with and in the ‘basket’ changed my mind and went with the larger one. Now I have to return it and try again. But this is the beauty of Apple gear. It is amazing I can literally use it and still take it back. 👍🏻 Great video and very interesting to see the music side of things. I had no idea how good that is. Thanks for the tips and I’m going to load up one of your shortcut video’s now 🙂 👍🏻
It's hard, I still love the mini, and after this review I spent some time reading on the 11" Pro and it becomes clear the mini still wins in that regard.
Great Video. I don’t even get a keyboard for any of my iPads I use them exclusively as tablets I have a Macbook and Studio for that. People need to stop trying to male the iPad into a Macbook and they will enjoy it more. I have a a Mini 6, M1 11 Pro and a 2018 12.9 Pro. I don’t see myself getting another large iPad as the 11 and Mini are the best sized ones for dedicated tablet use.
I tend to agree - from a hardware perspective the new iPad Pro is the ideal tablet, I don’t see how they make it materially better (other than eventual spec bumps, etc.) This thing is perfect. That’s the tablet itself - you could reasonably say the same about the pencil (except I’d like to see an eraser on the back.) However, the keyboard is too thick and heavy. Don’t get me wrong, it’s wonderful and a dramatic improvement. However, it hasn’t reached its platonic ideal like the iPad Pro itself. It will be tough to get there - leverage and balance is not on their side. Also, I think people are wrong about the nano texture glass. I think it’s sublime. (My wife has the glossy, I have the nano texture.) I am 100% happy with the choice. What a great device. This is an incredible platform for them to evolve the OS (hint hint)
I have noticed after weeks of use the speakers are not what they used to be. I was coming from iPad mini only the last six months, so it's a huge upgrade from that, but still not like the older iPad Pros
Absolutely agree, BTW I use an iPad mini to edit on Ferrite too 😊… and don’t want to see MacOs on the iPad but having said that iPadOS absolutely needs a better and more reliable Files app (file management on an iPad is a chore), Background process that would allow to have more powerful and better apps… even a proper clipboard manager…but the main thing would be avoiding“freezing” the iPad when it’s exporting, multiple audio and improvements to Stage Manager…and Apple not treating it as a companion product just to sell it along a Mac, case point being the iPad event, the tagline at the end said filmed on iPhone edited on Mac AND iPad… it’s like telling me that the iPad couldn’t have handled the finished product, but it can…specially if they give color correction to Final Cut Pro for iPad… 😅
Great points. I should have mentioned background processing, and choosing where ti save the export before the process so I can swipe away and the finished files ends up where I want.
@@beardfm I remember last time when I was at Baskin Robbins enjoy eating my ice cream a 6 year old boy saw me watchin despicable me 4 on my iPad Pro M4 he pull up a chair and watch the movie with me his mom didn’t even say anything
Absolutely loved this video, and the positivity about the iPad. I don’t want macOS on the iPad, but I DO want them to fix the bugs! So many bugs and quirks that I wish Apple would make a priority! Like electron apps not rendering content correctly (ie LinkedIn). Or scrolling with the Magic Trackpad just stops working, requiring a reboot. Or my external display going black and requiring an iPad restart to fix it. Or the pencil scribble feature grabbing my words half-way through me finishing writing the word, which only seems to happen after I’ve been writing a few sentences. These are not new features I’m asking for to make the iPad more powerful, they’re existing features that I want to work properly. Again, Apple needs to prioritize iPadOS to make iPadOS reliable and rock solid!
Finally a review calling it like it is, I also got the M4 11” 1TB, had the M2 which was good but love that the M4 is lighter, faster, best Oled screen, camera in landscape, upgraded magic keyboard & pencil. Normally I like bigger screens but here I like lighter and the smaller screen to compliment my MacBook Air 13.
You are far too sensible in how you approach the iPad. Everyone that says "the iPad Pro is great but held back by iPadOS" tire me as they just don't seem to understand the iPad is not a Mac. Yes they're similar and I am sure at WWDC they will become a bit more similar but fundamentally the iPad is better suited to some tasks just like the Mac is better suited to some other tasks. I understand people want a "does it all" device but all-in-one solutions always have janky compromises, just look at how other tablets have tried and failed to be both a desktop OS and a tablet OS. Your review of the iPad Pro (not just the M4 but the iPad as a whole platform) is easily the best I have seen in years because you seem to actually *get* what the iPad is designed for and don't try to make it something it really isn't designed or trying to be. Great job Stephen :)
Spot on. Just fumbled at your channel and agree with you 100 %. Why even compare iPad with MacBook. iPad does iPad things beautifully and a touch screen Mac isn’t gonna serve well. We just have to enjoy the speed of M4. It’s a different device catering to a different market and we should stop comparing it with Mac. Gooood one 👍🏼
Greetings, this is my first time on the channel and I appreciate all the details on the IPad Pro. I am in the market for a new iPad & this is definitely on my radar.
Good video... I am an I Pad fan and waiting for my I Pad Pro 11" M-4 to arrive to replace my I Pad Pro 11" M-1. I am defiantly not the power user you are but the I Pad Pro 11" is a great product.
Exciting! And even if you're not using it for "power" use cases, it's an incredible device that's just super nice to use for watching movies, tv, reading, etc!
Totally agree with the iPad should not be running MacOS. I think Apple should continue to flesh it out with touch-focused desktop features, but not while sacrificing tablet usability. I think iPadOS is headed in the right direction with Stage Manager and the suite of pro software slowly trickling into the App Store thanks to the Mac chips coming to iPad. My last iPad was a 2018 12.9” iPad Pro with the A12X processor and it got me through grad school for music. I decided to buy the 11” M2 iPad Air this year because the M2 enables me to use all the same software as the M4, albeit at sometimes a little less speed, and I find the P3 gamut IPS LCD to be excellent. I own multiple great OLED displays so I know what I’m missing out on, but also this LCD is one of the best if not the best edge-lit LCDs money can buy. $600 for MacBook Air performance in an 11” tablet is awesome. But, the fact they also were able to get an M4 in an even slightly slimmer form factor is insanity. iPads are Apple’s coolest product.
I just hope wwdc will announce some enhancements iPadOS that'll let it run more computer apps so I can have visual studio code on it, and not need my laptop anymore.
My biggest usage is gonna be watching videos and reading online books this will be my first iPad and I’m stuck between the 11’inch vs the 13’inch…..I also might start online school Soon take that into consideration
If this is going to be your only / primary device, the 13” is likely a better option if you can swing it. If you already have a desktop / laptop, then the 11” is a nice portable companion.
@@beardfm all I have is iPhone pro max 14 haha no tv in bed room thanks for the insight definitely going with the 13 after doing more research and soul searching lol
Awesome video. You can now select the audio output on iPad. It’s been one of my biggest issues with iPadOS when using a monitor with no speakers. Secondly I’ve noticed stage manager is now automatically launched to same settings as when I dock my iPad Pro as of 17.5 which is awesome as that was annoying too.
Thank you! And where do you find that audio output setting? When I attach a USB mic it asks whether or not I’m connecting “headphones,” which strangely I have to choose yes because I also plug in headphones to the mic. But it’s not very clear for users who aren’t savvy to that distinction.
@@beardfm not sure about input but output you pull down the menu and click on the audio symbol in now playing and it will give you the option of the display or other connected devices including the iPad. It’s ridiculously hidden! Great for most monitors as iPad speakers are much better! Different if you have an old Thunderbolt Display or studio display but still nice to have the choice. It’s only a recent thing (last 6 months or so I think).
Great review! Debating silver vs black - love the silver color for hiding scuffs and fingerprints but that white MK exterior is intense. What drove your choice?
Great video. I am getting a 11" iPad Pro but can't decide if I should just get a 512gb model or get the 1T model to get the bigger 16g RAM & the better M4 chip. What do you suggest?
If you plan on doing the multi-iPhone filming with Final Cut or editing with LumaFusion, maybe it would be worth it. Otherwise the 512 will be great and you won’t likely notice the RAM difference.
Great review Stephen Question, how would you rate the battery life on the M4 iPad Pro as opposed to the M2 iPad Pro now that it uses a tandem OLED display and an M4 chip?
Thank you! I'll need to test for a longer period, but the M4 means it can do all the same tasks with less power. And in my podcast editing experience the battery life has been great, but the last M2 iPad Pro I used was a 12.9-inch (larger battery). It seems on par at a glance I suppose?
Thanks for the video. Do you think that that the 11inch size is the perfect size for individuals like myself who already have a Mac Studio as their main system and are not in need of another screen (second screen) etc...? I have a 12.9 M1 Pro and thinking about getting the 11inch with the magic keyboard, I think that its seems to be a better travel device and hand held device the larger 13 inch?
If you already have a Mac and display setup, I think the 11" is the perfect compliment. I'm really enjoying going back to 11" after three years of the 12.9
Does the Apple Pencil really help? I’m curious because I’m looking at potentially getting it, but I do not do any type of drawing, but I could see using it for my audio editing and logic. Mainly the 11 inch
The Pencil makes all the difference for me in podcast editing. I've done some deeper dives on that if you're interested: th-cam.com/video/fUTOx3Dxhds/w-d-xo.htmlsi=3tNfkOenQ5mBH_Bf
Love your videos, man! Hey, have you tried out the Thunderbolt 4 performance on the iPad 4 yet? I’m curious if the iPad M4 is any better and can really keep up with high-speed file transfers to fast storage devices (like enclosures with fast memory). Let me know.
This is a great video! All these tech vloggers never point out that there are so many PROFESSIONAL (I.e. you make money from it) uses for the iPad that the MacBook can’t do! Let alone all feb hobbyists that use it for anything from a book reader to reading nfl playbooks on the field. The idea that it shouldn’t exist because it doesn’t run a handful of pro apps (it’s literally a handful) is just wild. The way they dismiss a product that is just as big revenue wise for Apple as the mac is is just silly. I think they sell far more units of iPads than macs. I get that the pro is expensive but that’s why they offer iPads at different price points. If you can’t afford $200 sneakers does it mean you shouldn’t wear sneakers at all??
Hello. How is the battery holding up so far? Some are saying it’s draining fast even without bg activity, while some say it’s one of the best. Curious how it’s working for you.
Hey there! I have a question, for uni. and watching movie-shows yt etc. Which one should i buy; ipad air m2 11" or ipad pro m2 11" (all of them with pencil tho) ? In my country the ipad pro m2 11" is 5k more than new ipad air so which one is better for long term? New ipad is 2 years younger and it will be get more updated that's the two reason im stuck with it: m2 pro price and update stuff... 🤷🏻♀️ and also is it big enough 11"? I want to buy the 13" but the price diff is literally 10k its so much tho. I would like to state that the iPad I bought can be updated for at least 6-7 years and that I want to use it for a very long time without lag or other problems.
I wanted to get the 11’ because I wanted the smaller form factor but ultimately decided to stay with the 13’ specifically for reading sheet music. Yes, it just displays a pdf but writing in notes with the Apple Pencil in music is key. I use a Bluetooth page turner pedal as well but I didn’t know about the wink feature before. I’ll have to try it! But I’ll have to disagree with you on the MacOS thing. The iPad is perfectly capable of booting either OS, so Apple should absolutely give us the option. Specifically, when docked on the Magic Keyboard. Why not?
Hi. On my white iPad Magic Keyboard from 2020 the white is stained from black iPad cover of my other iPad. Is this new keyboard also susceptible to staining?
Wow I’ve never seen that before. It’s probably too early to say, but the aluminum palm rest won’t stain long term. The outer material is the same though, so if your previous model stained the new one may as well.
Appreciate it! And to be honest I've never used a Samsung tablet (only briefly to see what apps were available and couldn't find any that suits my needs).
Great video, the “iPad should just run macOS” meme that’s been going around recently is just so tiresome and, well, lazy. IPadOS can always get better and the apps can always improve but it’s an amazing tablet and we shouldn’t lose sight of that.
If this will be your sole computing device, and you don’t have another computer, I would actually suggest the 13” M2 iPad Air. The larger screen will be worth it.
You can buy a Wacom Cintiq Pro 27inch etched glass with pen for about $3500. This is a colour calibrated touch display with 99% Adobe RGB and P3 as well as other professional colour grading spaces for video work. It’s for professional artists using high end desktop software. No professional artist would work all day on a 13 inch screen if they valued their long term hand health and eyesight. I feel it important to point out, as top tier IPads are not remotely similar to top tier Wacoms. They are 2 different things entirely. One is for general use and for running apps, the other is for professional work of the highest level. Wacom Cintiq pros are used by the world’s leading art studios. iPads are consumer products. It’s important the public aren’t misinformed by non experts in the field. These new iPads are very expensive don’t buy them for something they aren’t.
Yes, the Wacom line and iPad are very different products, I was making the case that just as a professional artist would buy a very specific device for their needs, the iPad is that device for some people too. Not necessarily artists (although I know some who use it), but my single-use, professional use case is podcast production. And for that, it’s worth it to me.
On my subscription page - in the same row.... I have this video here - "M4 iPad Pro 11" Review: Tablet Perfection!" AND I have a video in that same row, from MacRumors - "13" M2 iPad Air: The Perfect iPad!" LOL Which one is right? LOL
Since podcast editing is the main use case for my iPad, the 11" is easier to hold. I've tried various stands and mounts, but it's the most comfortable holding it. And since I'm dealing with only 2-3 tracks at a time, I have enough screen real estate on the 11" but it's lighter and more manageable than the 13"
@@beardfm yeah sorry if I came off like a jerk I'm an artist so I need the biggest screen possible. If it came in bigger than 13 I would buy that. Ideally probably 15 in would be my preference
Wow With your new M4 chip in your really thin IPad you can read your Emails really fast Stephan!! Then watch your videos on TH-cam really quick!!!! It’s still a IPad running IPad OS!! PS I forgot to mention you have to buy all new accessories but you probably don’t care
As an Apple Fan boy that has recently added the S23 Ultra as my work phone a year ago, I can tell you the Samsung DEX with external keyboard and mouse is a better value proposition IMO. If the new Samsung fold gets Ultra level cameras it's game over for me. You will have a premium phone, tablet, and Large format computing device. Don't let Apple convince you to buy a laptop, tablet, and phone.
Nice refreshing piece without all the negativity about iPadOS. I’m an exclusive pro iPad user as well and love it. Yeah, I want more refinement on iPadOS, and definitely global audio/input control, but I love the iPad overall. I’m on the 2020 11” iPad Pro and not being able to run Final Cut Pro is a major negative for me. 11” M4 iPad Pro, I’m looking at you ⌁
Most of the people complaining just can’t afford it and are trying to self justify their purchase. Some people have valid reasons. I was sick of this so I went to the Apple store and tried both myself.

my 11 inch iPad Pro is the best tablet to watch all my favorite movies and tv show it’s small and it’s easy to carry with u when your on the go 😃
Love that size!
Great video bro. I just got the 13 inch iPad Air M2 with the Magic Keyboard. It feels just like a laptop.
M2 iPad Air is a great machine!
Your videos are top tier! Was sad to see you leave the HK Insiders podcast.
Appreciate that! And if you're interesting, you can listen to my new tech podcast here: primarytech.fm
Appreciate that! The M4 is noticeably better!
Min LED barely looks different lol
That means a lot, appreciate your kind words!
Great alternative to Federicco’s and Jason's articles. And in my opinion, much more aligned with most iPad users
High praise, appreciate that 🙏🏻
Glad you found the channel, appreciate it!
I had a Surface for work at a previous company. That was an awful tablet and an annoying laptop… please leave Mac and iPad in their own lanes.
This was really helpful video. Helped my purchase decision. Thanks!
Glad I could help!
Another great review. TY! Well done.
All fair points for sure, thanks for watching!
I just hope wwdc will announce some enhancements iPadOS that'll let it run more computer apps so I can have visual studio code on it, and not need my laptop anymore.
I’m hopeful too. Apple announced “desktop class apps” last year but haven’t seen that materialize really
A great review!!!
Helpful video! What make/model glasses are you wearing? They look great!
Appreciate that! They’re Warby Parker Gillian!
I returned it. The iPad mini 6 is a much better form factor for an iPad and does everything an iPad should do.
Mini is a great iPad and I've been using it every day for months! For my use case the ProMotion and bigger screen make a meaningful difference.
Awesome, I agree completely. Got my 11 inch today, and it's just lovely. What's that audio editing software?
Ferrite app! Love it, and yes the 11" has been perfect!
Real good review, thanks
Thanks for watching! Appreciate it!
Great review!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Is it 120hz?
Great review! Debating silver vs black - love the silver color for hiding scuffs and fingerprints but that white MK exterior is intense. What drove your choice?
Thanks! I had the White Magic Keyboard for years and found it pretty durable and held up well. So, I went white again and enjoy the look!
May get the keyboard
Unfortunately you have to get a new M4 iPad Pro to use the keyboard, it's not backwards compatible.
Great review Stephen
Question, how would you rate the battery life on the M4 iPad Pro as opposed to the M2 iPad Pro now that it uses a tandem OLED display and an M4 chip?
Thank you! I'll need to test for a longer period, but the M4 means it can do all the same tasks with less power. And in my podcast editing experience the battery life has been great, but the last M2 iPad Pro I used was a 12.9-inch (larger battery). It seems on par at a glance I suppose?
2:59 Where did you buy that pencil grip? It looks like paperlike grip.
Yup, you can get them on Amazon: amzn.to/4dOHEeT
Thank You
You're welcome!
Great video!
Appreciate it!
I love 11inch, but I need 13 inch as music sheet 😅
Def go big for sheet music!
Love your videos, man! Hey, have you tried out the Thunderbolt 4 performance on the iPad 4 yet? I’m curious if the iPad M4 is any better and can really keep up with high-speed file transfers to fast storage devices (like enclosures with fast memory). Let me know.
Most major limitation for me on iPad - Using Microsoft on it. It’s an absolutely horrible experience, both with app and using the browser versions.
Office and Google Docs apps do leave a lot to be desired
Appreciate that! And it’s amazing you can buy a new iPad for $350 and still use an Apple Pencil to do the things in showed here!
Hello. How is the battery holding up so far? Some are saying it’s draining fast even without bg activity, while some say it’s one of the best. Curious how it’s working for you.
Battery has been great for me! Not draining quickly at all, full days of use without charging
Tempting but then I remember batterygate.... .nah nevermind 😂
Battery gate on iPad?
I want the best screen possible for iPad things . Bam
That's enough of a reason to go M4 iPad Pro then!
You don’t you just automate cutting out sections of the audio that are under ‘x’ Db where there’s no voice?
Why not?
My wife loves the 13" size for that too! And she actually prefers the bluetooth pedal as winking throws off her flute playing. But still worth a shot!
Superb Review.. 👏🏻👏🏻
What's your take on Samsung's flagship Galaxy Tab series compared to iPad Pros..
Agreed! And appreciate it 🙏
Sir can you help me plz
Should i buy 13 inches i pad air
For online glasses taking notes and Netflix and games
Or i pad pro m4 11 inch?
What app were you using to edit podcasts?

Haha serendipity! I’ll hav to watch theirs too 😉
What prompted you to buy the 11” rather than the 13”?.. because basing from your use case a 13” makes more sense.
Since podcast editing is the main use case for my iPad, the 11" is easier to hold. I've tried various stands and mounts, but it's the most comfortable holding it. And since I'm dealing with only 2-3 tracks at a time, I have enough screen real estate on the 11" but it's lighter and more manageable than the 13"
@@beardfm thank you for answering, im still deciding which to buy 😅. Great video by the way
IPad 11 inch is for bed use
Keyboard is useless. The small form factor is ON PURPOSE so for portability and versatility

Im ashamed to admit, I bought the m4 iPad Pro 11" strictly to play Warzone Mobile on the best device possible 😂
Why did you get the 11-in the 13 in superior
13in isn't superior compared to the 11in, the size that you prefer is the right one to get. Both are superior
@@esisolina only the 13 one is the super thin one though I don't know why anybody would want a smaller size
My main use case involves holding it for long periods of time. The 11” is more manageable for me.
👍👍video
The final form is a MacBook💻😂😂
Only one t in editing…
Gah!
So it’s just a cool toy bc you can do it all on the Mac you already have
It's for gamers
And podcast editors, photographers!
11” M4 iPad Pro, I’m looking at you ⌁
Appreciate that! And it’s a shame Final Cut isn’t available for that model. Surely it *could* run it.
SO, WHAT IS WRONG TO HAVE THE BIG IPAD M4 PRO 13”?
WHY YALL SPEAK NEGATIVELY ABOUT IT?
13” is great, and my wife uses it as her main device! Just for my use case of holding it like a tablet most of the time, the 11” is perfect
Most of the people complaining just can’t afford it and are trying to self justify their purchase. Some people have valid reasons. I was sick of this so I went to the Apple store and tried both myself.
It’s like buying hammers!
If anyone thinks the iPad should be running macOS should just buy a Mac
