Yup, we got d24s from 83-86 (I think), but The D24T was only available in 85 and '86, making them pretty uncommon. We never got the d24tic in any variant though. I will be making my own.
@@bakedbeansgarage116 I test drove two new '81 Volvo 'Diesel' models - actually fully equipped 260's - with the d24 in the summer of '81 in Winnipeg. One was a manual and the other was an automatic. So, the d24's were available back then. When the 760 was introduced as an '83 model in Feb. '82 Volvo also brought out the d24T and made it available on that model. the 6 in the 760 stands for trim level and not cylinders. The 6 actually stands for 6 cylinders up to the 200 model series. But in the 700 and 900 series it stands for the upper trim level as you can get a 740 with a 6 cylinder engine and a 760 or even a 780 with a 4 cylinder. Great video over all, I love cars and cats ❤👍😊
The volvo 760 was available with a v6 that was not sold in the 740 and the 960 had a 3 liter straight six only available in the 960 model, it was also the last rear wheel drive volvo badged as S/V90 1998
@@Leiwi and 960 also had a 2.5l variant of the 3 l straight six. Fun fact: Volvo chopped one cylinder off of the 960 3 l 6 engine to create the 2.5 l 5 cylinder that ended up in the volvo 850. 😊
Just stumbled over this video. Very nice! I’ve had several 740 and 760s with that Volkswagen D24 engine. They’re very popular here in Sweden. What state are you in? I guess they use road salt in the winter. If you decide to scrap it, both the front and rear lights are US-spec and highly sought after here in Sweden/EU.
I hope the timing belt is still intact. That is the one thing people could forget and end that car's life. MercedesSource loves using "Liquimoly Diesel Purge" to get those dirty old mechanical pumps and injectors going their best. I'm sure it is even more important, because who knows how long that rotten fuel has been in the system. 18:42 Well, some engines do need a higher idle speed when cold. Maybe things will change as things warm up. Check all your coolant sensors, switches, and vacuum devices for proper operation. If they don't operate properly, you might have high idle speed even when warm. It could also be because the insides of the fuel system are dirty. The Liquimoly diesel purge procedure for this Volvo would be about the same as a mechanical injection Benz. Mercedessource shows the way. 21:00 Before computerized automatics, diesels had to have an odd means of control. Gasoline engines could always use vacuum to control a mechanical automatic, but diesels couldn't. Sometimes if you have a mechanical injection Benz diesel, and the transmission acts weird, it isn't the transmission. It is the weird vacuum pump operated stuff that controls the mechanical automatic transmission. Sometimes you get lucky and only need to replace some vacuum lines. Also, hook a vacuum gauge to your vacuum pump and see that you are getting the amount of vacuum your service manual calls for. 22:33 Wow, you didn't just give the AT dipstick a check immediately after starting the engine? 24:33 Low brake boost? Maybe another sign the vacuum pump is not working as well as it should, or you have a vacuum leak. I'm not trying to sell mercedessource, I am just mentioning him because he works with 1980s mechanical injection Benz diesels. Although the are some differences, there are probably many similarities. Would a D24T engine ever fit into a VW T3/Vanagon diesel?
I am doing a D24 swap into a 740 gas and I realized I don't have the lower engine mounts and the internet isnt helping me much, I was wondering if you could give me a more detailed look at the engine mounts and possibly part numbers if possible?
Wrong. 6 in 760 actually stands for the 6 cylinder engine to show that here is someone with money.. But on some markets you could achieve the 760 model with a 5 cylinder Turbo Diesel engine from Volkswagen.. or a B200FT, a Turbocharged 4 cylinder redblock slightly downsized to 2.0L to match the different types of taxes in different countries. 760 had from the start of autumn 1981 the infamous v6 B28E/F engine from PRV. It was a nearly identical with the 260 B27E/F. Later on, 1985 the production of 260 was over. i believe it was 1985, they changed to the slightly better B280E/F. Then changed to more durable cylinder liners, stronger gaskets, larger oil channels, larger coolant channels, better water pump, different camshafts etc to get better running quality.

One of the biggest problems I faced with the car was fuel system algae it was like tar and it grew fast I ran it off the original tank for while and it would have less and less power then I put a boat tank on the roof cleaned the injection pump out with some crazy chemicals to get the tar out and it ran amazing for while then somehow a trace amount in the injection pump or fuel lines or something it spread to my new tank and that's when I decided to be done with it by this point the head gasket was about gone anyway. I smashed the car up with a excavator after ripping the engine/trans out without unbolting or unhooking anything.
