  • Can we beat a Hardcore Water Type Nuzlocke of Pokemon Fire Red? Watch to find out!
    This run wasn't the most challenging I've ever done, but I think there were still some good moments, and it was fun to play through!
    Let us know what you think!
    Standard Nuzlocke Rules:
    1. We must catch the first wild Pokemon in each area. If the wild Pokemon faints or flees, the area is locked.
    2. All Pokemon must be nicknamed.
    3. If a Pokemon faints, it can no longer be used in the Nuzlocke challenge.
    Hardcore Rules:
    1. Battle Style is "Set"
    2. No items in battle (Held items are okay)
    3. We may not level our Pokemon higher than the level of the next Boss Trainer's Ace Pokemon.
    Monolocke Rules:
    1. Only Pokemon of the chosen type may be used (dual-types are okay).
    2. Run begins when we obtain the first Pokemon that is of the correct type. If one can't be obtained before the first gym, we will hack it in and use it as our starter.
    3. Pokemon can be caught without regard to the rules if they will be used in an in-game trade for a Pokemon of the correct type. The area in which the new Pokemon is received must be free for an encounter.
    House Rules:
    1. Dupes Clause - If a Pokemon has already been caught, it does not have to be caught again even if encountered first in a new area.
    2. Starter Pokemon must be randomly chosen based on the last digit of our trainer ID. 1-3 is Grass, 4-6 is Fire, 7-9 is Water. If 0, we will use a random number generator.

    Definitely saw why you chose to leave Starmie out of this. Between surf, psychic, ice beam, and thunderbolt, it would have trivialized pretty much the ebtire mid to end game.

      @@pokephenomenal can you drink the water directly from vaporeon?

    • @grieveromega6060
      @grieveromega6060 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@todayidraw Guess Vaporeon produces nearly destilled water to save nutritions. So it might be no good idea to drink it too often.

    I’m gonna clear up my Gyarados policy for my *hardcore* *nuzlocke*: use two!

    interesting video, I disagree with the definitions, since monolocke is basically solo run, meanwhile that's typelocke, entertaining nonetheless, I enjoyed it! Wish you good luck on the channel, it has really good potential!

    On the gyarados rule I think it's pretty fair to use in gen 3 anyways since it doesn't get very good stab or good moves in general since all water moves are special, it doesn't really learn any flying moves, and bite Is also special so gyarados is stuck with a pretty lackluster moveset for quite a while. (I do get that it can still become quite a beast with dragon dance and intimidate regardless though)

    Idk if I'm the first to mention this, but while I know what you're talking about I've never heard it called "level scumming". But, tbh, I'm gonna start using it now lol 😂 Precisely because I don't know of any term for it lol 😂 Outside of "getting your Pokémon right under the level cap" which is a mouthful to say the least lmao 🤣

    • @pokephenomenal
      @pokephenomenal  ปีที่แล้ว

      Someone else mentioned that people call it "edging" but given we had never heard of that when we started playing nuzlockes, we ended up giving it our own name and will probably keep using it.
      We'd be honored if you carried the level scumming torch 🔥

    How did you keep your level cap and still train your gyarados prior to surge? Would have had to switch it out with something. Did you use the daycare?

    • @pokephenomenal
      @pokephenomenal  ปีที่แล้ว

      Depending on the run, I approach these kinds of problems different ways.
      Using the daycare is the easiest, but if I want to get it done faster, there have been times where I've caught a pokemon specifically to switch train with (once the other members of the team are at level) and then released it after the magikarp got tackle. Even though this is a slight bending of the rules, I usually allow it.
      Or, if I'm playing on emulator and have decided to use rare candies, I'll just do that. I've been doing this more often recently, as it saves a lot of time, but on some runs I want to keep grinding in, so it all depends!

    no dupes clause? i was confused about the poliwhirl and magikarp

    • @pokephenomenal
      @pokephenomenal  ปีที่แล้ว

      We run dupes clause, but with certain allowances. Once we've caught a pokemon, we don't have to catch any dupes of that mon or its evolutions, and we can't use two of the same pokemon on our team. But, if that pokemon dies and we can re-encounter it on another route, we view it as fair game.
      This helps us out in games like FRLG that have a smaller pokedex and a lot of repeat encounters!

    What are non-hardcore Nuzlock rules?

    • @pokephenomenal
      @pokephenomenal  ปีที่แล้ว

      Standard nuzlocke rules are pretty simple:
      1) You catch only the first pokemon you encounter on a route
      2) You have to nickname that pokemon
      3) If a pokemon faints, you can no longer use it
      Those are the basic rules! Harcore rulesets add a lot of other restrictions, such as playing in set mode, not using items in battle, and so on.

    Why didnt you use psychic tm on golduck and why cant you use it against fighting

    • @mrindiresh3-sw7wp
      @mrindiresh3-sw7wp ปีที่แล้ว

      It is available in saffron city in one house

    • @pokephenomenal
      @pokephenomenal  ปีที่แล้ว

      Golduck can learn Psychic via TM from Generation 4 onwards, but in Fire Red and Leaf Green he actually isn't able to--confusion is unfortunately his best psychic move. I might have beena ble to put it on someone else as a backup on Bruno, but I didn't really want to take up the move slot.

      Starmie is an absolute monster! That can be fun in later games with more difficult teams and AI, but yeah, in FRLG using Starmie is like turning on easy mode.
      Thanks for watching!
