  • A brief video showing how what I use as a drawing board and the tape I use to attach my pastel papers. After getting asked a lot about the tape I use I thought I'd make a quick video showing that and a few other tricks.
    Visit the following link to Jackson's Art and search 'art folder' for the drawing boards I use. www.jacksonsart.com?acc=087408522c31eeb1f982bc0eaf81d35f&___store=jacksonsart_en

    Emma, I am new to the world of pastels. I have found that I love the medium, but I felt so constricted by not having the confidence in taping my paper. Your informative tutorial has truly put my mind at ease so that I can focus on the fun of the endeavor before me. Thank you for your wonderful tutorials.

    Omgosh. I would have never used cellophane tape on an art surface! Learn something new every day!

    Oh my goodness, wish I would have seen this last week before I bought 4 rolls of artist tape!

    • @EmmaColbertArt
      @EmmaColbertArt  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Haha well now you have 4 rolls of very nice tape to use! If you use thin papers then save the better tape for those. Many of the thicker pastel papers are fine with any tape. I've never had the coated thick papers tear because of tape.

    I had no idea that kind of tape could be used on the sanded papers. I’ve been using the really expensive white artist tape. Thank you SO much!

      Because the pieces are only taped to my drawing board for a couple of weeks at most, this tape works fine. It's not a good permanent tape, but it is much cheaper for this temporary job!

    Good tips, thanks! I would never have used the packing tape either! I am a regular masking tape user, but I will consider this cello tape in the future! I love the idea of using a portfolio keeper as a mounting board and traveling you have got it protected all in one! You have yourself a new sub!

    Wonderful video, as always. I always learn something new, whenever I watch your videos. This time its about the blue painters tape, that I have been using for years. It never dawned on me that this blue could have an effect on my painting, simply because of its distraction. Even having this bright blue next to the colors I am choosing, could have a serious effect on how my painting will look in the end. I feel so foolish! Thank you so much Emma! 🎨😊

      Haha me too Ace! I used it for a while because of how sticky it is yet easily removed. It's perfect if only it was a less distracting colour! Grey would be awesome.

    Hi Emma, I’ve just gotten my first set of professional pastels and I’m on the hunt for an easel. Do you have any recommendations for a good style for working with pastels? Thanks for sharing this video by the way! Very helpful

    Packaging tap may not damage the pastel paper but it isn't acid free and over time the acid can turn the paper yellow where you stuck it on the paper to clean it!

    • @EmmaColbertArt
      @EmmaColbertArt  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Trina, I only use the tape on the edges of the paper while I'm working on the piece. No tape actually stays on the paper after that as you're right, it isn't acid free. There is also no chance of the areas I touched the paper with to clean going yellow. Velour is more like a fabric, the tape doesn't leave any of it's sticky residue on there otherwise I wouldn't be able to pastel over it.

    • @unboundbytiffany
      @unboundbytiffany ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah my thoughts exactly. Made me sad to see. Even the constant touching your paper with the oils on your hands. Just not the way to go if you sell your art. :/

      She could try using tape hinges like Karen Margulis, any yellowing would be at the back of the painting

    Emma, I'm from youor Patreon channel - does that 'board' warp in the least bit? I have a 30 x 26" foam core that is somewhat warped and I taped it just as you did I wish to know if or how this would, if at all, affect my painting. I have wanted this same backing that you have for many yrs. but cannot afford it no matter where I find it. Here in the US is it about $18 but the shipping is $21 bc they all come from the UK. [Aggghhhh what's the matter with people?

      Yes this would be the wind outside where I lived at the time. We could get 3 weeks of solid wind so a couple of my videos from this time probably sound a bit windy!

    Scotch is the better one

    • @EmmaColbertArt
      @EmmaColbertArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think scotch tape is just an American type of sellotape? It's pretty much the same as what I'm using.
