Such an easy going humble dude. Today I end the mindless scrolling on YT and get my shit together. Have been playing for over 40 years and in a slump for the past 10 or more. This channel is among 20 or 30 I watch and go wow, but just keep on scrolling around like a dumb ass. No one I've watched provides more value, clearer instruction, and the feeling you're just kicking back with your buddy and he wants nothing more than to help you play better. Absolutely friggin priceless.
As David says you can do this or you can do this and then just add this displaying it as it looks so easy and so calmly speaking as if no effort is needed. Then I run to pick up my guitar to do these awesome sounds and clunk clunk click click screech pop pop and back to the remote I go as that I can play much smoother. Thanks again so much! I agree. Sometimes it's good to "go back" a few steps and then push forward even further. It might sound odd, but I've made some real progress moving forward by going backward and reviewing things that I felt/thought I already knew. Sometimes you'll pick up something new/extra just by reviewing something you've already learned and it also strengthens your knowledge too. : )
Eh David, This was one of my favorite 3 for all. **** I’ve been occasionally practicing sweeping 2 note per string pentatonics..... Yes, not 3 note per string pentatonics but the common 2 note versions we all learn. Descending down the common 2 string pentatonics as triplets , the picking for “E,B,and G Strings would be .... Down, Up, Up, ....Up, Up, Down .... repeat starting on next set of strings “D, A, and low E” *** The ascending version which is slightly harder is the exact opposite for picking ... instead you do Up, Down, Down, .... Down, Down, Up.. You can think of them as two sets of triplets on three string groups at a time .... hopefully I explained this well via text? Lots of Fun! .... Almost as cool as a polka! Lol! 😉👍👍👍
Dear David, Your lessons are priceless for guitarists. I am going to show my age here, when I was learning , there were only magazines and VHS tapes ($$$$) for a kid and using the old turntable. I love your videos. I was recently asked to jam with a friend and I am a little apprehensive as I can get through a songs rhythm structure, but when it comes to tackling the solos for my favorite songs, I crash and burn. I wonder what your advice is for a 52 year old that wants to be a rock star before its too late? If you can advise somebody such as myself on techniques required to succeed. Thank you.

Same here, I remember getting a bit frustrated with Paul Gilbert's first VHS tape as only now I realize that I don't naturally use my right hand like him. I have to do it another way(which I now know is totally acceptable) but thought I was a failure as I couldn't outside pick as fast as him...it was much more difficult back then generally, with far less materials in my country. And I used a turntable at 16 rpm, trying to work stuff out,...then changing the key back...a lengthy process! Plus I also didn't realize how incorrect TAB could potentially be!! I stopped playing years ago, around 1990, but recently picked up a guitar again and getting back into learning again in 2017. I wish TH-cam was around when I was a teenager Best wishes from John in England, age 54👍

Great stuff! I’ve been playing all five pentatonic scales up and down the neck for 35 years now and always trying to connect them in unique ways. Trying to add the major scale notes and blue notes to come up with some shreddable 3 note/string ideas but something always seems to be missing. Recently learned harmonic minor to add some exotic flavor which helps a bit but I’m really excited to try these ideas you’ve presented! Can you recommend any scales to try to sound more metal? I’m amazed that Zakk Wylde primarily sticks to pentatonic from what I’ve heard! Thanks for the awesome content! Darren
