On August 22, 2015 I rode the Amtrak Texas Eagle 21 from Chicago Union Station to Dallas Union Station. This is all of my footage from getting on the train to getting off and watching it continue on to Fort Worth and ultimately San Antonio, Texas. In the last car of the train (a sleeper car) I had a little room where I slept at night. I spent most of my time in the lounge car where there were lots of windows to see all the sights trackside and also in the very back to look out a window at what we had passed directly behind us. So sit back enjoy the video. You can skip around or watch the whole thing if you're up for it. :) Thanks for watching!
The engine leading my train was:
    AMTK 81 GE P42DC

I have taken the Texas Eagle/Sunset limited from Chicago to Tucson every year for 6 years and getting ready to do it again. This video is fascinating and gives such a great view of the ride.

sometime I think when watching these types of videos...it is not what you see on the ride there but what you experience on the inside of the train and the interactions between family and others that is so special. I truly hope that the meals become better. The food seems like something from McD or Bk and such.

Fantastic exit video from Chicago as the Eagle switches over to the main. Your work is uniquely different from any other train/travel enthusiasts I've ever seen. Great work.

I rode the Texas Eagle 5 times. The first time I rode it was on 8/30/2010 from Dallas, TX to San Antonio, TX. I rode in the thru coach that was added to the Sunset Limited and continued on to
Tucson. I had helped my youngest son move to Dallas. I returned
by Amtrak to Tucson. I rode it 4 more times. I rode it from Chicago
to Dallas on 10/4-5/2012. I rode the Cardinal from Wilmongton, DE
to Chicago on 10/3-4/2012. Amtrak trains are my choice of long distance travel in the United States, it's a great way to see the country.

Back on Sept 11 2001 a Friend of mine was in Chicago for work. He was supposed to be heading back to Dallas that morning but obviously things didn't go as planned for the airlines that day. He was able to get a ticket for the Amtrak train back to Dallas. He said it was the first time he had ever traveled by rail but that he had a wonderful experience on board. I need to travel on Amtrak one of these days.

Zeb Love made his final run in September of 1988. Now a whole breed of Amtrak crews are on the Texas Eagle. Zeb made the train really popular. Charles Kuralt even filmed a segment of his weekly On The Road show on the train

Many thanks for your excellent video....the rear looking shots were excellent and I was able to enjoy the views and get a good idea of the trackside scenery. I've seen several videos of the journey out of Chicago and of the very long (rusty looking!) river viaduct the train crossed over later in the trip....but yours is the clearest I've seen so far. I shall probably never travel on the Texas Eagle (I live on the south coast of England) but thanks to kind people like yourself....I can 'share' your journey via TH-cam. I look forward to seeing more of our camera work. Many thanks again and regards. rob.

Commented before, but now that I work for the Dallas Garland and Northeastern Railroad I can finally see what some of the mainline looks like from before. At 1:24:23 that is Mock Junction, the track that goes off and branches into two directions, the leftmost track is called the Old Dallas and the rightmost track is called the Old Plano. And the flattened ground to the right of the mainline is now Main #2. 1:32:07 Back when CJ was still in use it's been out of service for some time now (The cars to the right of the double mainlines).

Why is the railroad not more interactive with local communities so that when there are stops..riders can taste the local farmers markets or vineyards, or local attractions available.?

I'm 17 years old. I live in virginia and was planning a trip to Miami, with my family, for my march break. I have told them about the amtrak Auto Train. But we cannot decide what option to take:
    1. Load our car onto the auto train, get off at Sanford and then drive to Miami
    OR
    2. Drive all the way to Miami
What option in your opinion should I take? I love to drive as I got my licence last year December. But I also wanna go on the amtrak.

    • @DFWTrains
      @DFWTrains  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I would go for the Amtrak. You can always drive whenever you want but taking the option for the auto train may come to an end with all of Amtrak's budget cuts.
