Absolutely loved are travelling aboard Amtrak, after our voyage from England to New York on the Queen Mary, we joined our train at Pen street station, then journey East to West coast and back again,
Rode this same leg in 2015 from Little Rock to Chicago overnight and then on to Boston. The only drawback was the 6 hr layover in Chicago. I loved the experience. My wife hated it. But it made me realize that we as Americans are in love with the mythical romance of the way trains were with privately owned lines prior to air travel. Sadly Amtrak is just an imitation of that myth. Loved the dining car and the observation car.
Love riding the train. I cannot take my eyes off the countryside as it passes by. I'm hoping to ride many the Amtrak routes before I get too old to get on board. So far I have taken the Calif Zephyr, the Southwest Chief three times, a few short trip on the Coast Starlight and later this year we are boarding the Texas Eagle from LAX to CHI. I am a history buff of the American southwest and I make up stories in my head as we pass through places that you read about in old west stories. I also try to educate myself on some of the geological formations we pass by. Can't believe some of the mountains we pass by are between a hundred million and four billion years old. I can't get enough...............
That's awesome! The Eagle is the only Amtrak I've been on but I hope to ride many more. Hope you have fun on your upcoming TX Eagle trip and see lots of scenery!
+DFWTrains Thanks for the reply. I'm looking forward to the ride through a different landscape than we've seen before. No matter what the environment there is so much to be learned and seen. Friend ask me how I can stand to just sit for long hours doing nothing. I answer with a loud "Nothing"? That's when I go into my long winded stories of what I have seen and learned while riding in the observation car with my feet up and sipping a soft drink. Try that on an airplane. On our first trip my son who was in his late 20's at the time was texting his friends telling them how he never knew the county side he was seeing even existed. I have been on the Southwest Chief four times now and on each trip I find something new I hadn't see before whether it be a mountain, an old building fifty miles from civilization, a cow long dead, a range of mountains, or a new site on Route 66. I had better end now before I write a short novel. Happy travels, Kerry.............
+DFWTrains You know with all your train videos and from the way you describe what is going on I would have thought you had ridden many miles on the rails or had even worked for a RR company. My case in point when I say not wanting to miss anything is on this video if you go to 41:05 there is a white cross next to the tracks. Why? What happened that would have caused someone to place that cross there? Not that its of great historical importance but it was an event that was historical to some person and perhaps to the community where the event happened. Did the event happen last month or perhaps last year. Maybe five years ago or even ten. I know some people could care less but not me. There is a white cross next to the tracks somewhere east of Albuquerque, NM I believe. It is out in the middle of nowhere. Why is it there? I swear one day I am going to find out why it is there. Can't wait to hear the sound of the whistle blowing and the steel wheels a clickin and a clackin. Every mile I travel is a strange new world awaiting with new adventure, new surroundings, and new smells fill the air............. Kerry
A train trip is a joy forever. My intention is to ride every Amtrak line in America. I've already completed round trips with the Capitol Ltd, Lakeshore Ltd, and the Cardinal.
Way to go Rodney, Amtrak is the only way I'll travel long distance, since 1/31/1974 I have traveled on Amtrak 24 times. I traveled the Pacific Surfliner when it was called The San Diegan 7 times, the Sunset Limited 6 times, the Texas Eagle 5 times, the Coast Starlight 3 times, I rode the Crescent from New Orleans to Wilmington, DE when I went to my 40 year high school class reunion, the Cardinal and the Silver Meteror was my very first Amtrak train trip from Richmond, VA to Wilmington, DE. I was in the Navy, and there was no direct Amtrak service into Norfolk, VA at that time.
Rodney I forgot to mention I rode the Cardinal from Wilmington, DE to Chicago to catch the Texas Eagle to Dallas to spend the discovery day weekend of 2012 with my youngest son who lives & works in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex area.
Daaaaaaamn Im genuinely impressed by this train. They dont have a dining car, a sleeper car, and pretty much anything else coming in the trains coming out of New York
I Love Riding on Amtrak it's the best way to travel and enjoy Awesome 👍 Scenerye me and my Mom rode the Sun Set Limited in The 80s And it was Awesome 👍😊
There is precious little to see once you hit East Texas. You're in a pine tree tunnel all the way through Arkansas. Finally clears a bit in central AR but it's dark until you roll into STL at daybreak.
95% of my friends and coworkers got married and had kids. Some of them even while still in grade school. Fortunately enough for me, I didn't get tied down. So now I can save up and see things and enjoy new experiences like this.
This is really a good vid you did on this trip. I've taken the Eagle round trip Austin to Springfield, IL several times, traveling coach sometimes and first class other times. I've always enjoyed the ride. Thanks for sharing your video.
New subscriber here! I so enjoyed your video that I'm watching it again. You shot it beautifully! I take for granted short train trips (I live in a major Northeast city), but I savor the long-distance rail journeys. I've enjoyed the fabulous scenery -- in all seasons -- aboard Amtrak's Adirondack many times, since 2007, with the only soundtrack being the train whistle, the steel wheels rolling, and the laughter of adults and children. Oh yeah, and the occasional but never disturbing announcements by the conductor, who is the director of the train. I love the aromas, even when a train -- such as the Adirondack -- has no formal dining car. Mmmm, the sandwiches and soups, burgers, hot dogs and pizza make my stomach perform a dance. Soon I'm floating toward the cafe car; in minutes (if there's no long line in there), I'm sipping on something hot or cold and enjoying a juicy burger and a savory soup while leafy and mountainous paintings roll past. Once, when the train paused somewhere in the Hudson Valley, a doe seemed to appear out of nowhere, trying to loosen an apple from a tree while about five yards away, a small group of humans were playing softball. I thought: "Hey, they'd better not leave that picnic table unattended too long. Maybe a bear would visit next." Such innocent scenes feed my imagination and continue to inspire me to travel by rail. In two weeks I'll experience Amtrak's Maple Leaf, as it'll be my first time visiting Toronto. Initially I was going to combine Toronto and Chicago for my vacation. I was going to start out from NYC Pennsylvania Station, boarding Amtrak's Lake Shore Limited in the evening and arriving in the Windy City the following day. I was planning to stay in Chicago for five days, departing at night aboard Amtrak's Maple Leaf to my next destination: Toronto. Then I was going to stay in Toronto for three or four days. However, after researching the costs of the sleeper berths on the Lake Shore Limited and the costs of touring Chicago as a first-time tourist in that major city, I changed my plans. I will see Chicago, and when I do it'll be via riding the Lake Shored Limited or the Capitol Limited (the latter from Pittsburgh or New York City). I'll stay as long as you did: a week. That's enough to explore all the different areas. A few questions about Chicago: Are the main tourist sights spread widely apart? Are the taxis expensive? I love taking subways and buses, but to save time and not miss a theater show or a special supper, I'd want to take a taxi. For my upcoming trip, I will make the best of three days in Toronto. Lovely city from what folks have told me and from what I've seen here on TH-cam and on TV travel shows. In retrospect (i.e., thinking of how I rushed the planning of my visit there), I should have booked for five days. There's lots to see. After touring Toronto, back on the train -- this time, VIA Rail Canada -- toward Quebec City, with a four-hour layover in Montreal. After spending yet another wonderful time In Quebec City (staying in Old Quebec, although I love the atmosphere outside of the ramparts as well) for five days, I'll be back on VIA Rail Canada, disembarking at Montreal's Gare Centrale. Montreal has it's urban charm (whereas Quebec City has its rustic charm and quaintness -- love it!), so I'll have my affair with the city for two days before heading back to the States via Amtrak's Adirondack, enjoying the fall foliage until dusk. I have yet to ride an Amtrak train with a formal dining car and with sleeping berths. My bucket list (and some of these trains may not have formal dining cars, but I find their routes fascinating) includes the California Zephyr, the Silver Star, the Silver Meteor. Now, thanks to your awesome video, I want to experience the Amtrak 22 Texas Eagle! Last questions, for now, for you and for any fellow viewers and commenters out there who ever have traveled on long-distance trains with sleeping cars: What's it like actually sleeping in a sleeping berth? I'm trying to find out, for example, if you feel claustrophobic. I don't get motion sickness on a train -- on a medium boat, yes. (I have never been on a cruise, except for those dinner cruises around city harbors, and I believe I got a little seasick on the one that departed from Baltimore's Inner Harbor. I also got a bit queasy on one of those amphibean Duck Tours in Baltimore, so Chesapeake Bay must not be my speed.) Finally, when hot food is served at your table in the dining car, is it still hot?
Sleeping on a train is so relaxing. I do get seasick on ships, but never on trains. Always in the upper berth and have no problems. If you go coach class, you'll find that the seats are very spacious. No problem sleeping in those either. If you order hot food that is what you will get.
I am sure you either know this already, or someone has already told you. However, that unusable coach added at St Louis operates as it's own train, but is attached to the eagle.
I am planning to go on a round trip from Austin, TX to Chicago IL March 14-18th, 2018. I love taking the train and I will have a Roomette NB and Coach SB because Roomette SB is too expensive 8). Looking fwd to it! Update: I will take a roomette both ways now! Looking forward to it again :D
yea and im also planning another one happening next summer. This time I will have my own room and my whole family will come along. Even though I still have a year, im still excited!
I love doing Amtrak from dallas-san Antonio-spend a few days there, then go san Antonio-Houston,spend a few days then Houston-dallas, also did it from Harrisburg,pa to new York...I do plan on going to florida and maybe California
DFWTrains I was a flite medic for 30 years, saw a lot by plane, flew a lot to Washington d.c with Verizon, now its time to slow down and enjoy everything I can..:)
Considering taking Amtrak from Flagstaff to Jackson, MI to visit friends this year. Always wanted to take the rail. Just trying to figure how baggage will work, since the Wolverine from Chicago to Michigan will not have checked baggage. Thinking about getting a bedroom and hoping a roller duffle bag would be considered carryon!
Scott Reece ive ridden the Texas Eagle several times and they do have checked baggage at certain stops. I'm not sure about all of them since I've never taken it overnight, only from Mineola to Dallas.
You will need to store you luggage downstairs in the luggage rakes when you board because if you have a small sleeper... there will not be enough space. I recommend that you pack a separate bag with you toilet items and a change of clothes... and take that to your room. That way you will have some room... not a lot but some.... if you are traveling alone. If not I suggest you and your travel mate pack a small kit together.
I wish. You can actually go even further all the way to LA but it's not the full train. Only about 2 train cars they hook onto the sunset limited from San Antonio
I was in Hope, Arkansas last month! I rode the Texas Eagle from Hope to Texarkana with my Grandpa, my Dad and my two sisters. I really enjoyed the trip!
i plan to travel from Guanajuato MX... and take Texas Eagle train from Del Rio TX to Chicago, and Lake Shore Chicago-New York... many days but i prefer instead a fast flight and not see panoramas,
DFWTrains b but,to appreciate a civil, relaxed, stress less,alternative.......& you were frugal in later life,it's the only way to travel. To hell with airports, autoroutes, and staying put, vegetating!
Sir, thanks for the interesting video. A couple of questions please. What is the significance of catching the numbers on the locomotives? Also did you have a gps with you? And how late was the train getting into Chicago? Mike from Denver
I like to get the engine numbers just so I can look em up and get more info on them or see any cool facts. I just put them in the description because why not. I had my phone with me which had google maps so I was tracking that way. The train got into Chicago at about 3:00 pm which was one hour later than we were supposed to get there. Thanks for watching.
Did your train take an alternate route through Illinois? I don't remember the Texas Eagle ever going through Dolton Jct. Also, I didn't recognize any landmarks in Illinois.
Yeah I was wondering where you were. It's nice in these videos where the videographer says what town they are passing through. If you cannot catch the conductor saying so on the speaker, you could repeat it. Did they even make any normal stops in Illinois? actually like looking on google earth to see where trains are.
After some searching, I found what route they used. You were on the old Chicago & Eastern Illinois line between St. Louis and Chicago, which somehow manages to miss most major towns. The normal route is the old Alton line (later Gulf, Mobile, & Ohio.) As I remember, that was a fast line to begin with, and now it looks like it will be a 110mph line.
i wouldnt mind coach if i was going a short distance or going to my destination the same day. if it was gonna be overnight or more than 2r hrs i would need a roomette.
I once switched to coach after riding the Southwest Chief from Los Angeles to Chicago. The next leg of my trip was the Lake Shore Limited to Boston. I though I could handle coach for the one day trip but after starting out with not to many passengers it quickly filled up at several stops on the way. Didn’t like it and never tried it again. Eventually did three round trips LA to Boston but always in a sleeper.
DFWTrains it was on ch.4 news one nite, just after they announced dart would be in mesquite. so I figure a tre train from dallas-mesquite-Forney-Terrell.
What Should You Prepare For When Going On the Texas Eagle? We Maybe Go Down To Texas Next Year, This Could Be Our First trip What Do You Recommend On Seating Or Sleeping Accommodations?
It depends on how far you're going. If you're gonna be on it overnight I highly suggest getting a sleeper which also included meals in the dining car. Also you can have your own little (I emphasize little lol) space where no one else will bug you on the train. Regardless of what you get, a seat or roomette, you should have fun. I spent most of my time in the lounge car. It's really open and sunny there and anyone can go there.
If i am not mistaken the Brown Brink building that was on the right side as the train entered the Dallas Station was the Book Depository where Lee Harvey Oswald shot the fatal shot that kill President Kennedy. Can anyone from that area verify if my observation is correct?
Was this the route the John F. Kennedy assassins took to get out of Dallas to get away from the police? Did they go to Chicago or Mexico. My guess is Chicago.
Absolutely loved are travelling aboard Amtrak, after our voyage from England to New York on the Queen Mary, we joined our train at Pen street station, then journey East to West coast and back again,
@tamaraingridtapp7949 The Queen Mary? This is living proof that money buys happiness

It''s a damn shame the windows on the train have never been washed since new. Your photography is beautiful.
Thank You!
I love this video. I'm planning on taking the Texas Eagle from Dallas to Chicago and this is like I'm riding the train already!
Thanks!
I rode this route last year and thoroughly enjoyed it
Thanx for the trip. I quite often watch this train in VR's camera at Texarkana, AK going thru. Nice to see what the trip is like :-)

+Kerry Langford Woah. I never thought about it like that. I usually just look at the bigger picture.
When I rode this train many years ago, it went past the arch and crossed the river at the Merchant's Bridge north of downtown St. Louis.
That would've been a cool route thru there

Rodney Brown and
Love the trains. Great job!
Glad you liked it!
I rode the Texas Eagle from Temple to Chicago last October. It was my first train ride.
This is the same train I am taking from Chicago to Dallas Texas, thank you for this video it really helped me get a good idea on how everything is!

+Robbi496 woah. That's a long trek for coach! I bet y'all became close haha
We sure did and the coach was FULL!
95% of my friends and coworkers got married and had kids. Some of them even while still in grade school. Fortunately enough for me, I didn't get tied down. So now I can save up and see things and enjoy new experiences like this.
Nice
Now, they probably are 95% divorced.

I know that's right 👍

I am taking the 22 Texas Eagle from Dallas to Springfield then a bus to Peoria international airport this week coming up

Everything seems very relaxed about train travel in America.
It is pretty relaxed
Ainda estararei nesta viagem inesquecível! !
Very interesting to see new rail line path construction.
Yes it is. It's not very often you see it
I love train rides

I enjoyed playing on the trains at fair park growing up, I know they moved them north to frisco I think, gotta find time to go there..:)
great video, ive been wondering how the rail construction was looking back off in there. Hate you skipped through downtown Mesquite though.
Thanks! On the way back I got footage from mesquite but I haven't had time to make that video yet. I'm hoping to get to that sometime soon.
Don't complain how small your room is.
Traveling Amtrak is a hell of a lot better than bus.
The bus is so uncomfortable.
I would love to know what kind of accommodations they have for the handicapped for getting on and off as well as the roomettes
THATS A GOOD QUESTION 👍😇
Just watched the whole thing. Was interesting.
Thank you very much!
Soo many trees!!

i might get on a Metra train on Monday from Joliet to Chicago
Nice! Have fun!
I'm gonna ride the 22 Texas Eagle on July 16th. I'm going to Chicago to meet my family! :D
Nice! Where are you getting on at?
+DFWTrains Hope, Arkansas
I was in Hope, Arkansas last month! I rode the Texas Eagle from Hope to Texarkana with my Grandpa, my Dad and my two sisters. I really enjoyed the trip!
+Harris County Railfan nice. That's a short trip but any chance to get on the eagle I would take too. :)
+Harris County Railfan nice. That's a short trip but any chance to get on the eagle I would take too. :)
Interesting baggage car #1710. It used to be a coach converted to baggage and still has United States Mail painted on the side.
Interesting. Thanks
Those old baggage cars have been replaced by new Viewliner baggage cars....
In summer I'm riding the Texas Eagle to Alpine, TX.
Nice! I may ride it to LA but I doubt it
DFWTrains do you have any tips for amtrak sleeper car my mom and are taking the texas eagle from fort worth to chicago
Awesome!!! Subscribed!
Thank you very much!
How was the trip considering getting a roomete and making the trip myself
Why film what's behind the train and not what someone would see out the side windows??
Or both.

DFWTrains b but,to appreciate a civil, relaxed, stress less,alternative.......& you were frugal in later life,it's the only way to travel. To hell with airports, autoroutes, and staying put, vegetating!
JOSUE ALFONSO NAVA PRODIGIES to get the most of 7zfc"bjjiioo ok ok I xxffd z. hip
No narration is fine. But some locations call out for it. For instance Dealey Plaza and the School Book Depository which were obvious in this video.
The sightseer lounge was pretty empty :P
Yeah there weren't a whole bunch of people on the train
No cookies
Yes. We did take an alternate route as there was major construction and delays on the regular route.
That's what I thought.
Yeah I was wondering where you were. It's nice in these videos where the videographer says what town they are passing through. If you cannot catch the conductor saying so on the speaker, you could repeat it. Did they even make any normal stops in Illinois? actually like looking on google earth to see where trains are.
+Crusader1815 We went from St Louis straight to Chicago with no stops in between.
After some searching, I found what route they used. You were on the old Chicago & Eastern Illinois line between St. Louis and Chicago, which somehow manages to miss most major towns. The normal route is the old Alton line (later Gulf, Mobile, & Ohio.) As I remember, that was a fast line to begin with, and now it looks like it will be a 110mph line.
поезд просто шикарный
Да, это удивительный поезд! Спасибо за просмотр!
i wouldnt mind coach if i was going a short distance or going to my destination the same day. if it was gonna be overnight or more than 2r hrs i would need a roomette.
I Might Go To Chicago Via The Amtrak In The Summer Of 2017
+NickAlvizo TheGoAnimator Lucky! You should enjoy it
DFWTrains I Will. I Never Rode Amtrak Before. Also, There Is A Chance That I Might Go To The TRE Tomorrow. I Still Don't Know
+NickAlvizo TheGoAnimator Nice
I recently heard dart may be planning from dallas to Terrell.
Interesting. I'll have to check that out
DFWTrains it was on ch.4 news one nite, just after they announced dart would be in mesquite. so I figure a tre train from dallas-mesquite-Forney-Terrell.
+Steve Nash That would be interesting if they extended the TRE instead of DART
@@DFWTrains the TRE would probably make more sence in that situation.
Not long ago I saw Amtrak 22 Texas Eagle with 406
love it
Thank you!
Any idea what that loud drilling noise was in the lounge car at about 1 hour and 28 minutes into this video?
6:55 "where's my cookie"
First thing I always say when I walk in somewhere :)
+DFWTrains Thank You
How long is this trip to Chicago?
About 24 hours one way
Oh I see..might take the route on next trip to the states..seems interesting..thanks a lot for the video DFWTrains
+Misran Siano it's a fun trip. Hope you can do it!
Yeah, planning to bring my family too, thanks friend!
+Misran Siano no problem. Just make sure you get a sleeper if you're doing the full route. It wouldn't be fun to sleep in coach
I might ride Amtrak from Fort Worth ITC to Dallas Union Station one day
how long was your trip?
Jessica McCarty The train ride was about 24 hours each way and I spent about a week out there in Chicago.
What type of letter font did you use for the titles before the video starts?
If i am not mistaken the Brown Brink building that was on the right side as the train entered the Dallas Station was the Book Depository where Lee Harvey Oswald shot the fatal shot that kill President Kennedy. Can anyone from that area verify if my observation is correct?
Your "observation" about Oswald is wrong, to begin with, official-version nut.
The Texas Book Depository can be seen from Dallas Union Station. It is very possible your observation is correct.
@@alphonsozorro7952 I have yet to see any credible evidence implying the Warren Commission is incorrect. A lot of speculation, no proof...
Yes you go right by it. I photographed it while pulling into the station.it’s at 5:54 on this video
You were holding the camera the hole time
WHAYS THE TOP SPEEDNON THIS ROUTE
Love Amtrak you missing out if you never took it.sad about virus Amtrak doing everything to keep cars clean enjoy!!!
If the car in the video is moving quicker then the train then the train is slow. We need speed speed speed...
If you feel the need for speed, FLY...
@Harry Gruber

If you feel the need for "speed" then see your friendly neighborhood drug dealer.
Have a nice day. 😏
On this kind of track the train should go go 200 mph not 80 mph
Lol the girls talking about men's chest hair at 1:39:00
Nice
they don't come in this way anymore BTW
Correct. They go down the TRE line from Dallas to ITC
And also not on the alternate route straight form St. Louis to Chicago

Was this the route the John F. Kennedy assassins took to get out of Dallas to get away from the police? Did they go to Chicago or Mexico. My guess is Chicago.
