- This is my story with my DR650. It's not a review though it is a bit of a rear view of my time with her.

As an older KLR rider, I love seeing the homemade bits, nobody seems to do that anymore.. My kind of bike👍
I don't know how everyone can afford those pannier racks that cost more than what I paid for the bike.
Good stuff man , Thanks !
You are, as we say here in the States, a true MacGyver!
Thanks for the great review!
Cheers mate
Love your storytelling style and a great testament to the DR and adventuring itself. Please keep making videos. Wish you great success as a content creator.
Thanks brother
Good bike and a great story. Enjoy the riding!
I too enjoyed your video. Love the diy style of your bike.
Thank you!
I have a 2018 DR 650 white with 400 miles on it Love it❤ Nice Videos
DR stands for DakaR! I just made that up but if I comment it enough on DR videos people will start believing it.
Love the video, It doesn't matter what bike it is, if you bond with it that's everything! I've had many bikes in my 60 year riding life, (i'm 75 now) Still have a KLR as well as 3 other bikes.
Really great video, I took my dr650 out for a quick spin yesterday, 4 hours later... I wont sell this bike, I bought mine to see Australia. Keep making these video's your hilarious to watch and listen too, something about being Asian with a kiwi accent, take it and run with it, you could do really well on here.
Cheers mate, thanks for the kind words ay. DR forever!
Nice honest story
Enjoyed video! Thanks for sharing your story. Have a 2014 Bonneville, want a DR650 as a alternative ride.
Thanks, you brightened my day here in Auburn, New York. Have a great day and ride ride ride.
Glad to hear it mate.
Beautiful story, I have a 2021 DR 650 it's been a great bike so far going into winter storage for now here in central Minnesota.
Well done! Great video!
Cheers!
You have around 65,000miles on that bike. That’s enough for me to buy one.
Love this video!!
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it!
Nice video Red, thanks mate.
It reminds me of my bike which is an XF650, the dr’s twin brother.
I got him ( the Wonky Donkey as he’s known) cheap from a mate just as COVID kicked in.
What a brilliant bike!
We’ve been on a few adventures together since, and hopefully there’ll be a few more to come.
Ride well friend 😎
Thanks brother, take it easy out there ay.
Good video. Of course I typed Napier New Zealand into the search function right away after pleasuring myself with your video. I was horrified to come across a YT Short about obnoxious and criminally minded outlaw bikers. Reminds me of my home country Canada. Looks great from the outside but once inside you don't know who's scarier, the citizens or the government. Proud to say to say I have no MRNA clogging my infrastructure.
Yeah, really annoys me that they give us all a bad name.
i like your style bud
Cheers ay
Hey, I'm am in a position where i got to get of my apt for quite some time. Also grew up on a few small bikes at 16 went straight street bike. My last street bike was at 26 (virago 750) when I sold it I thought "I will own a Harley when it's time" I am now 53.... I never owned a Harley.... Never want to.. I need an adventure bike. So I am shopping for spring ( in Canada so I am a couple months) after 100 video reviews etc, I am sure it's a drz400s , klr650 (less dirt capability) or a DR650 which is my favourite but at 6'7 (204 cm) its not as tall for me... O.k. bla bla... Love your video. I hope to experience the same path and get out like yourself :) very cool honest video. Thanks! Top 3 I needed to hear it ~cheers
Love to hear it mate, it will serve you well especially in the frozen north ay. You can get longer bones as well if it's too short and companies sell taller seats as well.
im sure youve already purchased a bike, but ive ridden all 3 of those, the KLR is just too slow on the acceleration, the new model has an extra 100 lbs of weight with no changes to the engine so its super slow, the drz400 is good if you dont plan on doing highway travel, but its good on trails because its much lighter than the 650, but the 650 is capable at everything especially if you put a bigger jet in the carb and open up the airbox. OEM gas tank is a little small too, ive ran out of gas a few times because i thought i could go a bit further.
Enjoyed your telling of your story of a well used and loved DR. They are the jeeps of the two wheeled world due to all the accessorizing that can be done to make them truly functional round the world machines. I am just starting my journey with a DR ("There are many like it but this one is mine" FMJ movie reference truly applies to these work horses). I wonder if your oil issues are suggesting time to do rings, valve guides, gaskets etc.? Kind regards from British Columbia Canada.
Pretty sure the oil's coming from a leaking piston ring as the oil is getting milky too.
Use the gases from the muffler mate, quicker than any hot water tap. We'd do it at every gate winter time.
Yeah I leave my gloves on my muffler at gas stops so it's nice and warm when I get back.
Nice bike!
Thank you!
👍
The way a DR ages just adds patina.
Awesome, remember a stitch in time fixes nine, sort out those leaks and oil burning issues as soos as possible and it might very well last you another 200k.
Are you on the NZ DR650 FB page?
I am yeah, occasionally have a gander there.
My 15 has been sitting for three years whilst Ethel Nightrains been abused. Now the Pig is gonna be revived.
Good on ya mate. Best of luck ay.
If that's not a dooms day bike, I don't know what is?
Last guy that did my tires asked me if it'd been through a war
@@explorewithred love it… just goes to show you don’t need a fancy bike with all the bells and whistles to enjoy riding…
@@emorty1703 Yeah mate, it's all in the spirit of riding not what you are riding.
114000K? Wow!
Yeah buddy, long as you meant KM and not another thousand after that haha.
Ok but why is my countries flag on his shirt.. oddly patriotic
It's a cheap shirt/bdu I picked up from an army surplus store that's dated to the year the Berlin Wall fell. I wear it as a sweat layer under my gear.
thats quite cool. German approved ;)
If your bikes burning oil, chuck a set of rings in it. it'll be like a new bike
That's the plan!
and at that mileage, surely you've already replaced the plastic fibre oil pump drive gear... @@explorewithred
@@jackheinemann1994 I have not.
Have a read about it, $30 part that tend to go at around 80,000k, when they do they take your top end with it. My bikes got 54000 on it, next oil change im going to that little bugger@@explorewithred
Love your video. When you spoke about the therapy of riding I said yup that's what I say. Ha you even took up welding! ok I'm going to jump ahead, I'm 58 years old, probably quite a bit older than you. I think you are on the right path, just hope you know the path hopefully leads to God, yeah many people avoid religion, big mistake, when you ride and enjoy the world, think of God sometime, this is prayer, and give thanks.
I'm not religious myself but I have a lot to do with religious folks around me, I used to fold cranes in mass and the monsignor told me that whatever way I need to talk to god is fine and I suppose bikes are another.
@@explorewithred bikes bring us into the "beauty of God's creation" something to be appreciated, and thankful for.
Dude are you frances from Whangarei
Sorry what?
@@explorewithred that kid who does the rap from Whangarei in new Zealand i.e my name is Francis
@@trentfrompunchbowl nah mate I'm from Auckland and not Francis either haha
@@explorewithred classic stitch up
Brilliant story about your bike which is a big part of your life. Love the relaxed way u made its history unfold before our very eyes! Just back from a spin on me Dommie 650 single cylinder monster just like yours that’ll run forever! Safe riding adventure’s Dude…🤟
Awkward tbh. More focus on the bike.
Why the COMMUNIST Jacket?
Since when is unified germany communist?
@@explorewithred that is a West Germany's SPD ..in 1980-1990s they was the .radical left
@@explorewithred If am not misstanken this jacket is from SPD in West Germany...they called themself unified but was the West Germany's communist
Just look at the jacket..it screams communist inte colours and style
@@Motoinc That jacket was made after the wall fell and has dates to back it up.
@@explorewithred Ok I could be wrong so I will really dubbel check I will post it here after
