Great tutorial! Just a little tip for people who don't like the gaps you can sometimes see between scales at certain angles - give the bezier curve a geometry node modifier, put in a curve to mesh and plug a curve circle into the profile curve socket with a radius of 0.63. Put a set material between the curve to mesh and the group output, then plug a material node into that with the scales material selected. This will turn the curve into a mesh just below the scales.
This is pretty darn awesome. I want use this to make the scales on a snaketail I'm working on. Trying keep poly level down though, can this be baked into some form of a normal map onto a cylinder? Or even put to specific parts of bodies and baked into normal maps?
Hello, ive seen the low poly snake video and in that video u used a different method of creating the body. is there a way to kind of flatten the body the top part of the array to get that cobra "wings". I can't seem to scale an individual point of my curve on the Z axis to flatten it..
I know this is probably the wrong video to comment on, but is there a way to achieve a similar pattern with prodecural textures? I'm specifically looking for a way to get a stripe of wide scales inside a regular scale pattern like what's in this video to texture a gryphon's forearm. I've been playing around with Simon Thommes' Sc'les material, but I don't know enough about shader nodes to get the results I'm after.

I'm not fluent in English..plz understand.. how to make low poly of cobra with more details and how to animate ,how to render video step by step ..make a tutorial for us ... please..
2:35 How did you remove the array modifier without loosing the extra scales? I assume it is too prevent the belly scale from being duplicated when you combine with Ctrl + J. I can't figure out how to do that.

you should try snake scale without subdivision surface modifier.

After using an array modifier, you apply the array modifier. Its shortcut is Ctrl+A.
