It's difficult to be generous, when you have greed for more. It difficult to be selfless when all that matters is you. It is difficult to be generous when you are so convinced that all that matters are phyiscal goods. As you can see, by loving material goods above everything, you stifle your ability to develop spiritual maturity and virtuous character traits. But since you dont see this simple relationship, I can see why you would attack a position you dont understand.

"The party" in 1984 is based to a large extent on the soviet and their stated philosophy is "english socialism" but that isn't really the point Orwell was trying to make. The party could just as well have been right wing and it wouldn't have made any difference because the party is solely interested in power, not ideology. When you get to the point where a state is keeping citizens under constant surveillance and controlling people's thoughts through language control, the Left/Right distinction is totally meaningless.

1984 is pretty explicitly about the soviet union.
The Big Brother is Stalin. Emmanuel Goldstein is Trotzki.
Orwell was a socialist in his youth. He was shocked about what he saw happen in the soviet union.
Political correctness as a deadly serious term cropped up in the russian revolution (you wanted to be politically correct),
and has only slowly became an ironic term throughout the late 20th century afaik.
The word-games and focus on a change in terms changing society, is what post-modern thinking is about, in part.
It is seemingly always a concern of totalitarian regimes in general, but specifically communist regimes.
A funny example was the "red means progress" reasoning behind the chinese government inverting traffic lights in 1966.
That said, good writing gets to the heart of truth, and this is what Orwell did.
He did not simply parody the soviet union as it was then, he saw the mindset and mental mechanics behind what was going on, and extrapolated it 1948 to 1984.
For this reason, 1984 is universally applicable to the human condition.

When the Lord instructed Moses to strike the rock in Exodus 17, He intended to establish a picture of Christ as our Redeemer. The Bible says repeatedly in Psalms and Isaiah that Christ is our Rock and Cornerstone struck (i.e., killed) for our sake, and He will bring forth streams of living water (i.e., salvation...see John 4:10). Moreover, Hebrews says Christ died once for all and no further sacrifice for sins is required.
So the Lord intended Moses strike the rock in the desert only once in the scene from Exodus 17, thus picturing Jesus sacrificed once to bring us salvation. Later in Numbers 20, the Lord instructed Moses to only speak to the rock to preserve the picture created in Exodus 17. When Moses chose to strike the rock a second time instead, he disrupted the picture created in Exodus 17. Had God allowed Moses' mistake to go unchallenged, we would likely be confused by the distorted picture, concluding it was necessary for Christ (i.e., the rock) to be sacrificed (i.e., struck) repeatedly for our salvation.
Therefore, God rebuked Moses to assure our proper understanding of the picture of the rock barring him from entering the Promised Land. In the process, the Lord formed a new picture to support a proper understanding of salvation. By barring Moses from the Promised Land, the Lord illustrated that we cannot enter into salvation (i.e., the Promised Land) by works of Law (i.e., by Moses) but only by the work of Jesus (i.e., by Joshua, which is the name Yeshua or Jesus).

I’ll say that Judaism takes most the numbers literally because they are real within the stories and as they happened would reflect. Judaism’s stories gave the associations for those numbers. Christian writers who wrote the gospels then used the same numbers to invoke the 40, the 6, the 30 and other numbers. In church it makes sense to learn they are metaphorical because that’s how it’s all derived, but in reality the Old Testament numbers aren’t meant to be metaphorical but reflective.

    • @adamprinceofeternia7509
      @adamprinceofeternia7509 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Thats not rue, Metaphorical number interpretations didn't come from the Gospel writers later on using them it came from studies of how ancient near eastern cultures would use numbers, based on this it reasonable to say that numbers like the peoples ages are metaphorical as people were given very long ages as an honor to them, which is why we see in the OT people living for hundreds of years which would be impossible, whats likely is that the ages are symbolic. now not every single number is metaphorical and Christianity doesn't teach that they are, also you can still believe a certain number has a meaning and that its also what happened at the same time.

@@noceboaffect3187 I doubt V for Vendetta is popular among conservatives, or that they fantasize about the ultra left leaning anarchist V. The idea that V for Vendetta was bolstered at the time by Republicans or Libertarians is completely bizarre. Libertarians weren’t the ones in V for Vendetta mask for like the next eight or ten years at whatever protest was happening.
The Fight Club thing you’re talking about is like dumb virtue signaling “Film Twitter” discourse from like five years ago about something that wasn’t even really a thing by that point. Some pointless bitch fest about “Film Bros” or whatever. I think eastern religious philosophies of karma, finding fulfillment within, controlling impulses, striving for enlightenment and peace with yourself and the outside world, are better than idolizing any God. I think we should idolize humanity and our individual journeys through life. "We are all our own God, therefore we should respect ourselves and others" is a better message than "you shouldn't sin because you'll be punished in another life". Believing in miracles is also ridiculous, believing that everything good in your life is God's doing, but everything bad is the devil and his demon's doing is a horrible concept to accept into your life philosophy.

Simply becoming a good person with the right values doesn't get you away from the way the violence is propagated through society. The audience now has to reflect on "what next?". Will things escalate? Will there be revenge attacks? How will this death be used to lure more young white people to the fascist gang, and how will that in turn draw more to the black gang members?
