SIG SPEAR XM7, WHY DOES THE ARMY WANT THIS?

- This is the new Sig XM7 chambered in 308, not the furry round. This is the closest (civilian version) rifle to what the Army is replacing the M4 with. In ths video you will see why the Army wants a harder hitting round, and ultimately went with the new Sig Spears. Let me know what you guys think of this new rifle and if youll be getting one.

Awesome video with great details on the Sig XM7, looking forward to more details after some runs!
XM7 which will become M7. Not MX7
What alot of people dont know is that the civilian version of this rifle that shoots .308 costs around $4500. The optic by itself costs around $2200. If you plan on using this rifle while shooting under night vision, youll also need some sort of IR lazer or a PEQ-15. Which of course costs around $2000. In total you would have to drop about $10000 for everything. Oh did i forget to mention the cost if you want to run a suppressor as well😂
This guy has not talked about the real difference between the civilian and the military version. It's called 277 fury and it's a higher PSI round then a 308
Does it come with drop fire? Or perhaps pull trigger touch bolt handle fire?
You do know you can swap the stocks right ? You can use the spear stock in the light version and vice versa
"Collapsed" = telescoping but FOLDING is FOLDING
Folding stock should lock in closed position. Also a m4 stock can fit the limb saver recoil pad which is needed on a 308
You can’t blame the gun for your shitty 3 round group after shooting the gun for 1 day
Was this the 16 in or the 13 in spear?
Now carry the rifle and 300 rounds 5 miles, 556 is way lighter
The M7 weighs as much as a decked out M1.
And way less power.
Can the 5.56 break level 4 armor?
@@galvinstanley3235 can you march all day with level 4 armor, a 20 pound rifle (assuming attachments) and 300 rounds of .308? You know that if you get hit with 556 with a plate on you’re still going to be incapacitated and your allies are going to need to carry you and your gear to safety right?
@@user-th7nm3ug7k The Ukrainians have home made armor that can stop 7.62 ammo.
Pump the breaks on that replacing the M4 fren, the M4 played no part in the NGSW Competition...
Up by lake pleasant lol iv shot multiple times in this exact same location!
When I was in the army I would have taken the extra weight to have a .308
What stand is that for the 556 you are using?
HP Tactical AR stand
The military round would have put holes in those steel targets and do it from 600 meters away, because that's their whole purpose of existing. The military round creates 22.5% more power than the current top .308 loads plus they are armor piercing.
Not with that barrel length.
@@frankopanklaric We don't know about long range armor penetration with the .277 Fury because no TH-camr has bothered to test the claim made by the military.
As far as power goes, the .277 Fury out of a 16" barrel still has more than 22% more foot pounds of pressure over a .308 Winchester out of a 24" barrel at 500 yards.
@@orlock20 Aren't the military rifles 13 inchers without a can?
@@frankopanklaric Yes, but TH-camrs don't have $8,000 and a class 3 license to make firearm videos. I also suspect that the .277 Fury round used in the test was the all brass civilian round which has less power.
The military rounds have some new type of gun powder that sends that round hyper sonic. It’s not even a powder it’s more of a solid that ignites with so much more behind it. I don’t know if I like the form factor of that rifle though. It seems too bulky. I understand less ammo and heavier load outs but, that rifle seems like it could drop a few LB’s. She’s a chunky girl
These guns sound sooo good.
If you gonna compare, just do the 6.8 version
The coupon code shows “expired” on HB’s checkout. 🥴
Hmmm 🤔
Care to give us an exact rundown of all your add ons?
Seems like the difference is:
5.56 = Open casket.
277 fury/308 = Not open casket.
😂 yes. Next time I’ll wrap the video up with that
you mean 6650e riffel... thats the price in finland :D
I have owned both the Spear lt and spear 308 and I can say with so much fucking certainty that it would make much more sense to do a wide adoption of the lt in 556 and adoption of the 308 version for a marksman role. Just look at Ukraine, when 70% of deaths come from artillery and another 20 comes from Drones and mines you should not put that much stock into armor penetrating capability at the cost of so much more weight and so so so so so much more expensive.
The big thing I see them pushing for this is that armor is becoming more widespread and accessible. It may bot be entirely there yet but there looking years down the line when it will be needed. It's a rifle to last the next age of warfare, just like the m4 being in service for nearly 30 years.
well ukraine is running low on attillery, further more drones make it so that manovering without the knollege of the enemy is hard to impossible, and optics are fucking rare. The supirior range of the xm7 isnt about to adress a need, i think its mre about to create a need for our enemys if you get what im saying. i mean that thing basicly turns you into a sniper / marksmen, and snipers have played a HUGE role in this conflict so far.
I mean imagie assaulting a trench or beeing in a gun fight where the enemy has a weapon that turns every soldier into a marks men.
Except THE US may find itself in the mountains of Iran similar to Afghanistan and you want a longer range round. If bullets don't matter why not switch to a 22lr and carry even more ammo? It seems lots of people just don't want to give up the m4.
@amazinkay4512 iran is an actual military with ballistic missiles and fighter jets. If us soldiers are in iranian mountains, that would be a doomsday/ww3 scenario. Us casualties would likely be in the 100 thousands.
@@amazinkay4512 I have read that 97% of the shots fired in Ukraine dont hit. Rifles are totally neglectable for this kind of war. This make me seriously think about to give soldiers just 22lr.
SIG. SUPER... ❤
dope
We all should have one .
You flashed your buddy after your shot .308 thru paper when it was on your shoulder. Bad discipline.

That’s why I unsubscribed. No pun intended…
☠️😭☠️😭. I saw that. I can’t help it either. It’s the military in me
Shit happens whoops sorry
The M4 in 6.8 SPC II or 6.5 Grendel, if you need a change at all. The Spear has forgotten the lessons of the past. Defeating Body armor is not the only consideration. Laying down fire Suppression is key within 300 meters or less. Combat load is will be reduced by 1/3. The spear will run out of ammo fast before the enemy will, & slower follow up shots. Heavier Rifle. For infantry, every once matters when patrolling for miles, they already carry 45 pounds worth of gear. Training will take longer for the inexperienced. One of the many factors for 5.56 was ease of training for conscripts. They will not have to overcome fear of recoil... Military Adopts the M7 rifle and 6.8x51. Hitting steel with those calibers and at that range isn't ideal brother.
What’s the difference between .308 and 7.62 NATO can someone explain?
Is the .308 shot out of the XM7 easier to control than than a 7.62 out of a G3? And if so, why?
Slight cartridge specification differences, pretty sure the 7.62x51 has thicker case walls which means less case capacity for powder. 308 Winchester operates at higher pressure too; you can shoot 7.62x51 out of a 308 chamber but not vice versa but it’s not because of the pressure difference. Other than that they are quite literally the same exact cartridge.
@@Redx130000 Thank you 💪🏻
But if they are the same, why switching to 308 when the 7.62 didn’t prove itself?
@@x9lipper9 They’re switching to 6.8x51 (.277 Fury) the Sig Spear used in this video was chambered in 308 because he probably couldn’t get ahold of one in 6.8x51.
@@Redx130000 Oooooh ok now I get it. Thanks man

The army should of picked 6mm arc over the .277 fury
It is .227 fury. Look it up.
How about actually reducing the total kit weight.
SIG isn't going to replace the m4
@@NonsenseFabricatorIt’s definitely .277 Fury considering it’s also known as 6.8x51 and 6.8mm would be .268 inches which is a reasonable rifling land diameter.
Can't. It's not reliable, breaks bolts. You would need a rifle designer to design the rifle around that round. Could be done but it's also slow.
I think you’re getting suppressed by the algorithm because your videos are great and I’m shocked how few views you’re getting all things considered. You have a decent amount of subs but feels like there should be way more views. Thanks for your great content. 👌🏻
Yeah man, it’s a struggle haha. But we don’t give up. Thanks for the support brother!
the new ammo is worth the price, but just 308. I don't think it is worth the price. because it only shoot 1-1.5 moa
Meh, for the actually price to quality of this gun, I'd rather get an AR-10 or Galil Ace in .308. Even the Scar has better performance than this rifle!
Definitely won't replace the M4 in my opinion.
I will keep my Daniel Defense DD5 v4.
You cant go wrong with that weapon.
I want one😊
WHY YOU GUYS SURPRISED ABOUT THR RESULT. OF COURSE THATS 308 AGAINST 556. ITS VERY OBVIOUS
5.56mm is shit it's always been shit a completely worthless round that takes ten rounds to do the job of one.
Not at all surprised this is coming in and will probably gradually phase out the 5.56mm
Looks heavy and expensive.
5.56 worked because you could carry more ammo.
The Army might as well went to 308.
It's not heavy ,weighs 8.38 lbs , if that's heavy for you maybe you should go to the gym more often.😂
@@Article95 I completely disagree. Unless Humans are now made of Kevlar. It's sort of Ironic you say that, when in the World Wars, they were using Full Rifle Calibers. Massive Bullets because the Old Guard thought the same way. 5.56 has amazing penetrating power. I am sure the Armor Piercing versions could do the Job.
The individual soldiers in the Modern battlefield is already weighed down by significant amount of Gear. Adding Heavier Ammo makes no sense.
Do you understand what a real Fire Fight is like?
You take fire, you don't even see the Enemy. You just know where abouts you took fire. You just start laying down rounds in that direction and location. It's better to have more ammo, then heavier Caliber less overall.
@@adramelek7455 Lbs add up my friend. Also, I am not speaking about he Rifle Weight alone. You understand how much more weight that ammo is? Unless you have been an ammo bearer for a 240b, you don't know the pain of walking 12 Clicks carrying 1000 Rounds of 7.62x51.
With a larger caliber, Soldiers are going to carry less of that Caliber.
The reason 5.56 was selected as a Standard NATO, was it was the perfect middle ground of Weight and penetrating power.
If defeating Body Armor is the Objective. It would be better to simply switch to 5.56 Armor Piercing Rounds. There has been a load of R&D in 5.56 because it's such a popular ammo.
You also have to take into consideration the logistics.
For instance, my US Army Infantry Battalion replaced the Canadian Army in Panjwai. You know where we got our Ammo? The Canadians left us their Ammo. Because 5.56mm NATO is the Standard Round. All of our Allies use this round.
It was actually pretty cool because they left us their Old School M72 LAWs(The US Army doesn't use them anymore). It's a short Launcher system that is lightweight. It's a nice cherry on top of a fire fight.
TH-cam search "5.56 Armor Piercing" plenty of examples of the 5.56 defeating modern body armor. Idk where this idea that the 5.56 lacks stopping power. It isn't based on ballistic testing. It's based on unreliable reports of enemy getting hit and not going down. There is a wide amount of reasons for that. However 99% of people who take a 5.56 center mass, ain't getting back up. Look at Ballistic Gel Testing.
why are they going back to battle rifle
Armor piercing. On paper and yet proven on TH-cam is level 4 one shot penetration at 100 meters, level 3 one shot penetration at 300 meters and level 3A penetration at 600 meters.
@@orlock20Bullets are becoming obsolete,it's time for a new technology .
@@galvinstanley3235Since WW1, 80% of all Western war kills involved explosives. The bullets are there to get the enemy to hunker down so a bomb can be dropped on them.

It's "6.8x51"or ".277 fury " not "7.62x51 or .308" that the U.S. Army is switching to, and the rifle is the XM7 not the MX7. Otherwise good video.
Mx7 is the civilian version of the xm7
They aren't switching anything
Weights 3X then weight of M4 and 6X the cost per unit!😮
Don't forget the $2,000 Vortex optic. There's no way our military can afford to equip every soldier with a $3,000 rifle. They won't even equip them with $500 rifles most of the time.
@@Maniac742 Chinese power armored soldiers and Russia...yes a lot more funding is going to the military within the next 10 years.
@@UltimateEnd0 Bruh, nothing in China works properly. Made In China is a meme for a reason.
It's 9.84 pounds for the XM7 (suppressed) versus 6.43 pounds for the M4 (suppressed). What are you smoking?
@@Maniac742 The M4 was 700 dollars when it was new...in 1987, which is the equivalent of 1900 dollars today.
I spent waaaaaay TF tooo much money yesterday.🙄😁😁😁😁😁❤️🔥🫡💥💥💥
If he wanted to spend money, he could have bought the real M7 for $12,000 and the civilian .277 Fury round for $20 each.
The rifle is a pig and reduced combat load must not have gone over well with troops in the field as opposed to some officer looking for a post service job at sig.
Would you rather have a lot of bullets that don't work,or have less that do?
So the complaints of an American self declared weapon expert about the heaviness of the newly issued SIG Spear XM7 weapons to U.S infantry ground soldiers was due to his lack of knowledge of that firearm weapons functionality that aside from magazine fed 7.56mm and other ammunitions that can be used by that firearms it can also be fed with box- type 70 to 100 ammo rounds like that of the machine gun type, that's why it was designed heavier than the M-4 Carbine to have stability to carry the box type plenty of ammunition carrier box because if the shorter M-4 Carbine be used with that box type ammo feeder it will entail the use of tripod so that the M-4 Carbine won't sag while firing.
😂yall shooting plastic ammo that's under powered ammo we've been getting a new rifle for 20 yrs 😂ain't no body using that shit and the m17 trash totalled it in 5 n half mags it went semi to full.auto then the slide went flying off sherrd the firing mechanism off with regular ammo fmj 115grain
.277 fury, the round the XM7 uses, doesn't have plastic in it. The 6.8 TVC does.
