One thing the towncar has over every other car is simplistic luxury, and the fact you barely have to do any maintenance. Lexus ls430 is great but you have to change that timing belt every 90k miles. Towncars forever lol

I was going to get one, but my dad put a stop to it, thankfully. Yes, simplistic luxury is refreshing in today’s world of screens, buttons everywhere, and twelve different driving modes! Comfort, size, and a good ride are all I want. A/C seats would have been excellent, I don’t think it would take away the simplicity, just make the seat heat button have two sides.

The starter in those LS430s are buried in the engine and require the removel of the entire top end. Its very expensive. $1500. The telescoping breaks all the time and the part is impossible to find. A dealer will charge you $1200 to fix.

There is nothing...I mean nothing! That rides as smooth as a lincoln. The older caddies come close but no cigar. These cars are super reliable and get decent gas mileage for their size. I agree a Lexus is reliable but when they break down... boy are the parts expensive! I just bought a 2003 Lincoln Town Car and this is my second time owning one. When I drove it home I just had a big smile on my face because of how comfortable it was. I have come to a point in my life where comfort and reliability are the two main ingredients for me when owning a car and the Lincoln fits this perfectly! I think we need to hide these channel as more people will start to learn about this and drive the prices up...:)

The beauty, and I mean the true, absolute beauty of these land yachts is that, when you're going home at the end of the long, insufferable workday, you don't necessarily want to, let alone have the strength to, drag every Challenger between your job site in your home, nor do you necessarily want your car to beat the shit out of you, nor do you even want to have an incessant chat between you and your steering column about every little imperfection in the road, nor do you want, or even have the strength to,lift your hand to a stick ,all in the name of extra driving engagement that you will likely be too tired to necessarily feel. No, this is a big, comfy Cruiser designed to take you home in style and in Comfort, pure and simple.

Long story how I got but when I got out of hospital after cancer, I needed a car with good gas mileage. That ride is just getting broke in, man. Keep good quality filters and fluids in the engine and change spark plugs/coil packs every 50,000 miles. That car will run forever. The worst thing about those Panther platform cars is the heater/AC ac mode actuator up under the dash. It doesn't matter if you have the EATC head unit or manual 3 knob head unit. It is a poor design. I miss the old days where the heater/AC unit was controlled by wire cables and vacuum solenoids. Nowadays it is all teeny-tiny little motors that burn out or plastic gears that strip....instead. If you keep vehicle long enough it WILL happen. I had a flap inside my HVAC box (98' MGM) in dash to completely break at pivot point. I still had AC/heat.....just not on my feet. Most of the air came out of dash vents no matter what the setting on control unit. But it was worth getting it fixed. My Mercury runs like a champs, gets good mileage even at 212,000 miles...and still floats like I'm riding on my grandpa's Lazyboy recliner. Take good care of your car....and it will take good care of you.😉👍

I own an 08 crown victoria lx. Non police model. 5 things I love and 5 I hate. 1. Handles like a dream, the car feels like its floating when you're driving it and its rear wheel drive. 2. Great value for money, just such a reliable well built vehicle that will last you a very long time. 3. Very comfortable interior, and even though the tape deck and cd stereo is dated, I still rock it, plus the cassette tape has Bluetooth and aux cord adapters which is just fine for me and helps update that a little bit. 4. Good weight distribution, 50/50 front to rear weight is ideal when you drive in less than ideal weather since I do live in Canada. 5. The sheer utility that you get out of a vehicle like this is worth it, tons of trunk space, the 6th seat which helps when you got more passengers, and it really gets you everywhere you need to go.
Now for the things I hate.
    1. The rear shocks on my model is notorious for sagging overtime. Right now if I have too much weight in the trunk, the rear sits down quite a bit and may drag over a steep incline. Will have to get that fixed still. 2. The temperature blend door actuator was shot when I bought the car, its a real pain in the ass to replace but at least if you got a few simple tools and know how its a straight forward job, takes a few hours to get done. Chances are I'm gonna have to replace it again within the next 10 years. 3. The traction control cuts way too much power. Whether you're in some silly little race against someone at the lights or showing up your buddies, the vehicle feels sluggish when you're trying to take off. Even when you do turn it off, this is not a race car by any means, so don't let that big v8 and rwd fool you into thinking its fast. 4. Its a big car, although I do love big cars, this is not a good thing when trying to park downtown or go through tight streets with tight turns, its long, wide and you cant maneuver it very well in tight areas. 5. ... well I cant think of anything else.
I have a lot more reasons why I love the car and yes, I recommend buying one if youre looking into it for any of you reading. Most of the things I hate can be fixed and obviously in the long run, parts need to be replaced at some point. But just overall the best vehicle I will ever own. Glad I got one.

Do you use regular grade gasoline? If you want your 4.6 V8 a bit more spirited, try using premium grade gasoline. I have a 2004 Lincoln Town Car and I use nothing but 93-octane premium unleaded fuel. It gets excellent gas mileage too! The engine runs smother and acceleration is peppier. Fixed the leak in the AC inlet on the passenger side. RTV brah. Replaced the foam BS.
Airbag code 34, passenger side seatbelt pretensioner ohms way too high. Got it rebuilt to 90$.
Next steps, fix the ac blend door stuck on defrost. Requires dash removal.

This massive 2 ton car should have 300 HP we're not asking for much, only 70 - 80 more HP, 5 speed automatic gearbox and only 3:55 rear axle. But the greed of American car companies made them not care about the rest of the world markets, and since Ford was selling these cars well at the end of the nineties and did not receive complaints about engine capacity in the United States, there was no reason to upgrade this platform. The main reason that killed these cars is the lack of upgrades. Ford wanted to phase out the town car An extra 70 horsepower wouldn't bankrupt Ford

I love these cars, They ride like a dream, they're very reliable, and cheap and easy to work on when something does break. Luckily they made a lot of these, so there's still a lot of new and used parts available. I have about $6000 total invested in all 3. I bought the first 2 to commute to work about an hour each way and they've never let me down. The decline of the Town Car and the Panther cars is like a giant self inflicted wound - the initial success of the Panther was accidental serendipity, unfortunately it was not well loved by its manufacturer. Without a champion to help it along it suffered from engineering malaise. Because no one at Ford saw a future for this car it’s engineering team was actually quite small - this is why it never received much of any improvement and was left to die on the vine. I love my Presidential Edition 2006 - but it could have been so much more of a car. It has a lot of disappointing shortcomings that I will be working to improve. Honestly my 1998 Continental has a better ride and a more well coordinated powertrain. The seats in the 2003 and newer TC are actually less comfortable than the 2002 and earlier, the seat ergonomics are awkward and reveal the shortage of engineers on the Panther line. I will eventually have the seats reconfigured to be more like a good BarcaLounger: sumptuous luxury that immediately makes you feel good. The 2003 and newer TC front suspension design has a major design flaw: it has about 2” less front wheel travel than the 2002 and earlier. I probably won’t be able to change that. I wish that Ford had updated the rear suspension to eliminate the live rear axle and instead use the IRS off their sport utility. The Panther does have a good ride overall - but suffers from rear axle tramp on uneven roads, making the ride closer to a pickup truck. An IRS would eliminate the secondary oscillation from the heavy rear axle moving around. As far as power the 4.6 2V engine has some decent aftermarket support. Using a host of TFS parts, their heads and cams, it is easy to achieve 350 to 380 horsepower and still run on regular gas and have a smooth running engine that is not a lumpy hot rod.

Is this the reason for the inability of the Panther engines to extract more than 300 horsepower and to change the gearbox???

    • @Thomas63r2
      @Thomas63r2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@jehadhjaya2767 Panthers were more cruisers than muscle car, but they had good low down torque that car magazines seemed to consistently report mid 8 second to 9 second 0-60mph acceleration. If you need more power TFS offers a simple 380 horsepower top end heads and cams upgrade kit. TFS heads swap the intake rocker position and tilt the intake port for a dramatic increase in air flow. TFS's mild performance cam compliments their head air flow and needs headers (there are mid length panther headers available, in stainless steel even). Just make sure to get a quality aluminum performance driveshaft for reduced harmonics if you plan to drive much above 110 mph. Nothing wrong with the panther automatic trans, variants of this transmission were used in trucks up to the E450 commercial van. Or maybe you want a Tremec T56 manual transmission?

About the air suspension. You are right.
I owned both town car and a w220 Mercedes s500. Still have the s500.
What it cost to replace entire air suspension system on Town Car is barely one, uno, singular off brand air shock or $2500 for mbz shock, just the shock, on the S500. And s500 have four of them. On top of air pump, which can be another $1500. And the distribution valve, another $1000 or so. Easily $12,000 for air suspension if one go to dealer, just in parts. I just got a 2004 town car, 116,000 miles. I am 2nd owner, and every thing works 100%. It was garage kept. This is the best riding car this old man (76) has ever driven. When I told my son about it he was not interested due to it being 20 yrs old! But when he came over and looked at it, then drove it!!!! First thing he said was "put that in your will!" I drive it to Walmart once a week..8 miles round trip. Should last for a while.... I paid $4800 for it and sold my truck. If you can find one, go look at it!!!!

Im 3 years late on coming across this video. My daily driver is a 2000 executive series black on black. Found it as a non runner with 90k miles in an older mans driveway. Long story short, it belonged to his mother who purchased new who passed away and was left to him. He himself was up in age and due to health reasons and the fact the car itself needed some repairs decided to part with it. Mostly the common problems these cars are known for with age. Probably the easiest car to work on and the best car ive owned hands down. Its no powerhouse there's nothing special about it but its good enough to keep up to today's standards, its very reliable, very comfortable, not too bad on mpgs, and it was cheap even after the repairs it needed. I owned a 95 town car years ago that was also reliable and a couple of grand marquis before that. I always said ill never part with my town car and if i had to, I would find another or a marquis to replace it.

I’m three years late to the conversation, but I appreciate the feedback. I’m strongly considering buying one of these cars.
The color interior/exterior combination you have is the one I want, so your video made me stop scrolling. 👏🏼👍🏼
I listened closely to the things you don’t like, but I think they’re more preferences than they are cons. That cheesy piece on the door could probably be rewrapped in leather if it’s bothersome to you.
I also think the manufacturers didn’t put a lot of power in this model car (in terms of motor) because they were designed and marketed for a specific buyer: the middle aged to the elderly. It’s perfect as is for an elderly woman, and an elderly man will just buy himself a sports car and save this for the Sunday drive in to church if that’s what he’s looking for.
As far as the weak front end, every car manufacturer has its flaws, quirks, and weaknesses.
When they’re building these cars, they’ve got to figure out where to put the money and where to skimp. At least that’s the way I see it.🤷🏽‍♀️😂
    Thanks for a helpful video.😊👍🏼

The Lincoln Town Car was a member of the family of Ford Panther Platform cars which included the Ford Crown Victoria and the Mercury Grand Marquis. When Ford stopped making the Panther Platform cars it was the end of era in automobiles. These cars were the last of the full size, body on a frame, V8 engine, and rear wheel drive with a solid axle. You will not see cars like this ever again.

the mercury marauder had the 32v engine, but it would have been a lot cooler if they put that engine in the rest of the panther cars and then did the cobra version for the marauder, one day I plan on supercharging mine because its a cheaper way to get roughly the same power as the marauder. I have a 96 lincoln, and youre right about younger people being into the land boats I guess because im 28 and I love them. 95-97 town cars are my favorite and I waited several years to come across the perfect one, and now I have it and Ill drive it until you cant buy gasoline anymore lol

They're practical. You fix out a little issues than any car that old is going to have and it may drive another hundred thousand miles will I have any more problems not to mention it's pretty cheap to fix the problems. A lot of the late 90s and early 2000s big vehicles had issues with their front end. All their bushings are rubber. A 20 year old car is going to need new bushings creating the 60s you couldn't get 20 years out of any vehicle without pulling the motor and rebuilding it not to mention how quick they rusted out. You buy an expensive luxury car and you're just going to spend endless amounts of money on it. You buy anything from a Ford Lincoln or Mercury on the panther platform and you can drive it forever for very little money. I've owned a couple Volvos and I can tell you, it cost me about 1500 a year just to keep that Volvo on the road. I've been driving my old Durango for 2 years and all I've had to do is change oil.
