I grew the Hillbilly last year. It wasn’t a big producer but it was beautiful and one of the best tomatoes I’ve grown for flavor! I also love the jubilee! Voles got mine two years in a row. I made hardware cloth baskets this past spring. I’ll get my Jubilee this year!

So exciting to see these get started which begins their journey in your garden. Will be awesome to see your greenhouse be full of nightshades again too! Lots of wonderful looking varieties, will be interesting to see how some of the new ones turn out and what your thoughts are on them over the course of the growing season. Can't wait to see your greenhouse evolve into the Vego raised beds! Love the ingenuity of using the Bluetti out there with the heat mat, where there's a will there's a way. Hehe. 💚🍅🍅💚

    • @SageandStoneHomestead

Yeah I checked on it this morning and all is well! I can charge the bluetti during the day when it needs it (will be a while with that low energy draw) and it will be warm enough in the greenhouse during the day where the seedlings will be just fine. :) I'm nervous but excited about them being out there!!

The little orange looking cherry tomato at the end. I want to know what you think about those. I have a texture thing that keeps me from eating tomatoes. The one's that are very meaty I can eat a bit of them, as long as I don't think about them as I eat them. It gets horrible sometimes. Anyway I love pineapple and vanilla! If the description is accurate I want to try and grow them. That's why I commented " umm" in the live. I wanted to mark it so when I went back to watch it I could remember to ask. I will stop rambling now. Awesome vlog Heather as always ❣💯

Glad to see I'm not the only one that seems so giggly when the first seed goes into the dirt. And Yea, I wasn't going to trust the new zoning of our area either. Last year, we had some gorgeous plants almost ready to put into the ground, but then the artic blast set in and killed all our plants because by then they were too big to bring them all into the house. So I immediately got out the seed trays again and picked what seeds we definitely wanted to start, and went bare minimum on each varieties. This year, I'm planting several different varieties again, but I'm going to stage them and plant more trays just in case another freeze comes. I'll list below what Heather M. and I have planted already....
    Peppers:
Early Flame (Jalapeno variety that turns red early)
    Helios Habanero
    Sugar Rush Peach
    Colossus Jalapeno (Big Jalapeno variety)
Arriba F-1 (Gold Jalapeno) Note= We grew these last year and were very impressed.
Chinese Five Color (Leaves on the starter plant are Purple)
    Roulette Heatless Habanero
    Time Bomb
Orange You Sweet (Bell pepper that turns orange early)
Maximus Red (Bell turns red early)
Yes to Yellow (Bell that turns, yes you guessed it. Yellow early)
    Tomatoes:
My Favorite = Hossinator (Determinant Slicer) (Very High Disease Resistance List)
    Chefs Choice Orange (Indeterminant Slicer)
    Purple Boy (Indeterminant Slicer)
    Tachi (Determinant Paste)
    Saucey Lady (Indeterminant Paste)
    Shelby (Determinant Paste)
    Yellow Canary (Determinant Cherry)
    Super Sweet 100 (Indeterminant Cherry)
And last but not least......Red Snapper. This is a Determinant High yielding Slicer tomato plant that the Hossinator was made from.
I have planted a few other things, but not going to waste anymore of the comment section up on my Garden Journal.

I had a favorite organic potting soil that worked well, but a few years back it changed to more of a tree mulch soil and nothing grew. So I dug good soil from the garden and added composted goat manure and made my own. I haven’t bought starting soil since. Making a cheese today but hope to get my seeds out later today and get in the greenhouse tomorrow. I use heat mats and heavy duty extension cords because the greenhouse is very close to the house porch and has a good outlet. So exciting!

I grew Cherokee purple last year and they got as tall as my other indeterminates. They had an excellent flavor and were a really pretty burgundy color inside. My problem was the top third of it stayed green and were kinda of cracky but not like a split tomato if that makes sense. I also tried to grow black cherry but the seeds that were sent to me were NOT black cherry! There were apparently two different kinds in the pack because a couple of the plants had red tomatoes and a couple had yellow. I was so disappointed! I don't remember who I got them from but they came in a tiny little plastic package.

    • @SageandStoneHomestead

We had issues like that one year and it was Seeds N Such. I can't recall what the tomato was supposed to be but it was a totally different shape and color and wasn't what I ordered. Cross pollination can happen though and be a fluke! The tomato was good still! :)

Thanks for sharing. I am definelty adding new tomato varieties to my garden this year. All these statements about GMO seeds "ending up in the home gardeners collection is really confusing. I have read that you must have a license ( USDA) to purchase GMO seeds. How are they ending up in home gardens? I have heard that some companies add Non-GMO to their labels as a scare tactic to purchase, since GMO seeds can't be sold to the public. Can you share a credible source, beside a company that you are promoting on your site. No offense, its really confusing on who to believe these days. Thanks.

The company that sent me the seeds has not instructed me to show that GMO tomatoes exist for the public. It's something I was made aware of this month that I wanted to spread awareness on. A gmo tomato made with crossing a tomato with a snapdragon is available to the public right now. This is unfortunately very real. www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2024/02/06/1228868005/purple-tomato-gmo-gardeners
