I watch you nearly every morning while I sit and have my hot chocolate or coffee. It's winter time right now like it is with you I'm in Northeast Oklahoma. Illinois River ranch on the mountain thank you so much Heather you're awesome!!!!!
@SageandStoneHomestead yes I do that put hot cocoa in my coffee it is so good and creamy! One day I want to try goat milk and I want to raise some mini la mancha,'s!!!!!!!!
I'm glad you didn't get hit too hard. My part of the state is reported at 16" of snow in that less than 24 hour period. Drifts are well over 2 feet plus in some places and this morning my phone is telling me that it is currently 0 F. (we've warmed up from -2) Stay safe and warm!
I've been keeping you in prayer during all these winter storms. Your greenhouse looks so amazing even in all that cold weather! Please be safe! God bless!
That tree creaking is so unsettling!! I heard a tree doing that a couple weeks ago, stressed me out! We have had two trees fall on our mobile home before, thank God minimal to no damage. Gotta keep praying for the best through these conditions
Yeah the huge tree in our front yard has to come down this winter. It's growing in a way that will make it rot in the middle eventually so we need to make sure we can pull it down in a safe way before it falls in whatever way it wants!
I'm happy to hear that everything is fine in your homestead. I hadn't noticed how much fluffy your goats are in winter but it seems they are well protected from the cold temperature.
I grew up in Western Ky. Daddy owned a farm equipment business in a little town called Sacramento, and later farmed. The land around you looks like home to me. Brings the memory of an Easter that our beautiful new dresses, always made by Mama, had to be covered with our worn winter jackets because of a surprising 6” or so of snow, then temps that dipped into the teens causing everything to ice over. That creaking is, indeed, an every sound! Thanks for triggering these fond memories!
Thankful that it warmed up enough to melt the ice we got. In central Kentucky. We were prepared just in case we lost power but we didn’t yay! Just a few inches of snow but that will stay on the ground with this cold. I’m feeling the urge to plan my garden soon. The bread looks yummy!
We were prepping for a power outage too, so glad that didn't happen here! It looks like the electric companies have been doing a great job getting the power back on to those that did lose it!
I'm watching and cheering at Mooche being lovey and all those beautiful abundant brassicas making a low jungle out of your greenhouse space! The almost metallic sound of the ice on the trees, creaking and shivering in the wind is such a unique sound, too. Stay warm, stay safe, and don't forget to bring a squash for Chloe. LOL
Poor Chloe I forgot her squash both times I had the camera lol! I only have a couple left but she's due for a whole pumpkin soon anyway and that will last a couple days :)
That is a great idea to cover the cauliflower with their own leafs. We had a heat index of 43°C = 109.4°F. We had rain during the night and the humidity was around the 90% this morning. It is heaps cooler now. I do not like the heat and the humidity. I love winter time. Thank you for sharing. Thoughts and Prayers always. Love and Blessings. Doris, Penrith 🇦🇺🦘
The trees did make a crunchy strange sound when swaying! Hoping it does melt before the stronger winds hit. Lots of icy beauty as well as sogginess, which is so good to see what it really can be like if you have squishy wet land. I did not see a red bird, but did see something leap towards that container that has a red cap on it so that may have been it? All the goatie goats being so sweet! Love it so much, Heather haha - you can tell your goats are well loved in how they respond and behave! Greenhouse seems to be doing pretty well, lots of lovely broccoli! Garage door looks really nice on the barn extension. Your green scarf looks so cute, glad you got that all finished up. THREE WEEKS until babies! 💚🥦🥦💚
We are in the North Dallas area and we are expecting some snow and have been in the freezing temps here the last couple of days. Just harvested some Brussels sprouts and man they were delicious 😋
The Peas actually look like they are attempting to bounce back. And that's exactly what ours did that one year when I finally left them to rot. I was thinking ok, sink or swim. If you sink, I'll have extra garden space. But they ended up thriving afterwards.
I'm glad you are ok, we didn't get anything here in Michigan from that storm just lake effect snow which is normal. My middle daughter got 1 ft of snow and was stuck in her apartment in Daton OH. The broccoli looks great. We eat two heads of broccoli every other day. Thank you for sharing till next time God Bless you all.
😮Funny Nefarious tentatively coming in like... "Wait is that mud!?" LOL! When I lived in Oklahoma we mostly got ice rather than snow. It was beautiful but we lost lots of limbs from the weight on trees. BTW, I love your hat.
we lost a few small limbs. our chickens are fine. but we have a GIANT pecan tree that hovers over many of our buildings. It really hasnt produced great pecans so considering taking it out for safety reasons. we have a friend with a bucket truck.
We have to remove a few trees from our property for safety reasons too, but they are not productive trees. That would be hard, but probably a good idea to be safe!
We got 12 inches of snow and the snow collapsed my chickens run but they aren’t leaving the coop right now anyway. I have to somehow repair it but I have to shovel my way first. The news said that we hadn’t had this much snow in 30 years. Fortunately the ice storm didn’t happen.
So glad you weren’t hit bad. ❤ We got about 8” of snow, topped with about 1/2” of sleet, then about an 1/8” of ice, then another 1-2” later during the 2nd day of the storm. The kids have gotten an extended Christmas break. My back is beat from all of the shoveling. Thankfully, all the farm critters have done well. Of course, there’s lots of frozen buckets / waterers. Feeding extra to keep bodies warm. It’s a joy to come in from a busy snowy farm full day of work and see a S&S video ❤
I'm glad to learn y'all are ok and suffered no harm from the ice storm! I've been through too many ice storms and it IS creepy to hear the trees creak in the wind with the ice on the limbs and branches.
Just wanted to pass along a great tip I picked up from Brooke and Jason at Cog Hill Farm! It’s helped me so much to use Spiral Wrist Coils with Key Tags of different colors as reminders! I’ve put blue ones on the outside spigots, a red one on the fence charger, yellow ones on the shop door knobs, etc… When I turn on the water, I put it around my wrist and it reminds me to turn the water off when I’m finished! I use the red one not to get zapped! And, the yellow ones remind me to lock doors when leaving the shop! Really useful all over the homestead for peace of mind! It’s the little things!
I'm shivering just watching you.😅 I'm freezing cold down here in NE Florida 😩 I hate the cold... we're supposed to get to 28* tonight, so I had to bundle up and go protect some of my plants. I haven't had to do this in a long time. I am born and bred here, so I couldn't even imagine having to deal with what y'all do. Stay safe 🙏 ❤️
Thankfully, we did not lose power. A lot of people did in my county and surrounding counties, but not in my area. I was as prepared as I could be. Are you supposed to get the snow at the end of the week?
So crazy! I just found your page because I’m looking to get more into homesteading. But I also live in western Kentucky! We got hit pretty hard where I’m at. Yall stay warm!
27° here in Northern Crittenden County. Not supposed to get above freezing more than 1 degree until Sunday for a little while. We have over ½" of ice. Most people have power back, but just hearing the branches pop and squeek makes me cringe. It feels too much like 2009 for my liking.
I'm jealous of your broccoli. I planted a bunch but I don't have a greenhouse or a way to cover it. I don't think it's going to survive these cold temps...........................
You don't have to eat icy grass! Come here. Haha, that made me chuckle! Wow, the greenhouse still looks amazing! Look at all the green!
That's the happiest this greenhouse has ever looked in January! Love it ♥
Your greenhouse looks fabulous. It helps me to know how much I need to grow since our family is also 6 people.❤
Yeah it's more than you'd think! I started 32 more broccoli plants for spring, 16 cauliflower, and 16 more cabbages :)
I watch you nearly every morning while I sit and have my hot chocolate or coffee. It's winter time right now like it is with you I'm in Northeast Oklahoma. Illinois River ranch on the mountain thank you so much Heather you're awesome!!!!!
I love that, thank you so much! Hope you're staying warm!! Have you put cocoa in your coffee? It's SO good!!
@SageandStoneHomestead yes I do that put hot cocoa in my coffee it is so good and creamy! One day I want to try goat milk and I want to raise some mini la mancha,'s!!!!!!!!
YAY I love mini lamancha!!

Thank You Merry Anne! Hope you all fared well too! Baby goats hitting the ground Feb1 here!!

Yes they grew in a good bit of fluff this year! ♥
Beautiful broccoli! You must be so excited for the produce you can grow in your new beds.
Yes indeed! Thank you!

That is some gorgeous bread Heather! Wonderful video, enjoyed the visit. 💜👍💜 Aunt Beth

Oh that is oppressively hot!! I'm so sorry that is miserable!
The trees did make a crunchy strange sound when swaying! Hoping it does melt before the stronger winds hit. I cannot belive we are so close to babies!!! Very excited about kidding season this year, I want some Feral Daughters!
We are in the North Dallas area and we are expecting some snow and have been in the freezing temps here the last couple of days. Just harvested some Brussels sprouts and man they were delicious 😋
Oh I'm so jealous! our brussels are barely coming on now!
That sure is some nice looking broccoli. Have a great day everyone.
You have a great day too!
The Peas actually look like they are attempting to bounce back. And that's exactly what ours did that one year when I finally left them to rot. I was thinking ok, sink or swim. If you sink, I'll have extra garden space. But they ended up thriving afterwards.
Funny!! I may just leave them. Some of the leaves have a mildew but it doesn't seem to be spreading to other types of plants.

We saw somewhere in NY got SIX FEET from Lake Effect Snow!!!
I made indian frybread and a pot of chilie for the weather.
OH yum!!
Greenhouse looks amazing for January! Beautiful broccoli harvest too! Blessings Kiddo!🌿💚👵
Thank you so much!!
It snowed here a little while last night. Nothing accumulated. Supposedly getting 4” this weekend. Stay safe and warm!
Yes More snow coming Friday-Sat for us! The roof on the barn extension is supposed to go up this weekend, we shall see about that!
@ fingers crossed but not looking good for it. After this weekend, I believe we are good for at least a week without precipitation
I love the icy garden and my goat 🐐 fix Happy New Year 🥳
Happy New Year!
Just a girl and her goats! Great video!!! Loved seeing everyone. You dog is my very favorite!!! Hes so sweet and adorable
Buster is always my favourite part of your videos. Such a happy face. I have a Maremma (smaller gp) and I just love them.
😮Funny Nefarious tentatively coming in like... "Wait is that mud!?" LOL!
When I lived in Oklahoma we mostly got ice rather than snow. It was beautiful but we lost lots of limbs from the weight on trees.
BTW, I love your hat.
Thank you so much!!
I also love letting things go wild. It just seems more natural to me and interesting
we lost a few small limbs. our chickens are fine. but we have a GIANT pecan tree that hovers over many of our buildings. It really hasnt produced great pecans so considering taking it out for safety reasons. we have a friend with a bucket truck.

Here in Louisville we got 11 inches of snow and ice combined .
Woah that is crazy!!
We got 12 inches of snow and the snow collapsed my chickens run but they aren’t leaving the coop right now anyway. I have to somehow repair it but I have to shovel my way first. The news said that we hadn’t had this much snow in 30 years. Fortunately the ice storm didn’t happen.
Wow that's insane! So sorry about the run but glad their coop is okay!
That scarf turned out so great!
So glad you weren’t hit bad. ❤

Also keep one of our local Amish families in your prayers. One of their furniture locations had a roof collapse due to snow load 😢
So happy to have provided a bit of warmth in this cold snap!! This too shall pass! ♥
Ohhhh stay warm! It’s so cold! 🥶 come on spring!!!😊
I'm glad to learn y'all are ok and suffered no harm from the ice storm! I've been through too many ice storms and it IS creepy to hear the trees creak in the wind with the ice on the limbs and branches.

Oh man that is cold for you!!!
The Green house is looking beautiful. Over here in Connecticut it was 12 feeling like -6 super cold. Can't wait for summer to come back again.
Ugh negative temps are brutal!!
Heather and Levi! Ya winter greenhouse looks amazing! So exciting!
Good morning! This ice storm is yuck here but I’m reminding myself the spring will come! 😅
Yes, one day it will!! :)
Your fall garden is so magnificent!
Thank you!
I live in Western Ky too. Wickliffe...
Thanks for sharing 👋🏻👋🏻🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰
Thankfully, we did not lose power. A lot of people did in my county and surrounding counties, but not in my area. I was as prepared as I could be. Are you supposed to get the snow at the end of the week?
Yes Friday into Sat we will get snow, hard to say how much yet but so far looks like an inch or two which is pretty normal for here. :)
Also I'm glad you did not lose power!!
So crazy! I just found your page because I’m looking to get more into homesteading. But I also live in western Kentucky! We got hit pretty hard where I’m at. Yall stay warm!
Hi there and welcome to the channel!! I'm sorry the storm was rough by you, hopefully you've got power for this cold!
Hi Heather can you tell me if you eat the leaves of the broclie or you give it to your animal?
We do both! We recently sautee'd some broccoli leaves and made "beef and broccoli" (with goat meat) and it was so good!
Heather thank you for This question answered I really appreciate it. Will do This in the feature and also Will plant broclie of my own.
The baker creek seeds have gone through stratification i heard
Great to know!! Thanks!
Hello ❤❤❤❤
Hi there!
I’m glad you and your family are doing well. I was wondering if you were worried about any bird flu cases?
No, we haven't appeared to have any cases around here in all the years they've been raising alarm
27° here in Northern Crittenden County. Not supposed to get above freezing more than 1 degree until Sunday for a little while. We have over ½" of ice. Most people have power back, but just hearing the branches pop and squeek makes me cringe. It feels too much like 2009 for my liking.
That's what one of our friends said too about the 2009 storm!
I'm jealous of your broccoli. I planted a bunch but I don't have a greenhouse or a way to cover it. I don't think it's going to survive these cold temps...........................
They could surprise you!
I think we are in the same area..
We might be!! Near Cadiz KY!
