Soak your beet seeds for two days in water and then plant. I did that this year (I initially was just going to soak for a few hours but forgot about them). I had the best germination and a great harvest doing this and I've never been able to grow them well. Roasted beets with goat cheese drizzled with honey....so good!
So far just planting and waiting works for us. I'm the type of person where if something has a lot of steps that are hours or days apart I WILL forget. It's why I can't do long ferment sourdough.
I’m so stoked that you started spring seeds in todays video. My seeds and new domed trays arrived yesterday and tomorrow I’ll have time to plant! I was getting no generation from store bought starting medium that I had always used so I started using a mix of composted goat manure and last years garden dirt. So we will get a bucket load of compost and dump it in the back near the food forest for plants that need it there, and I’ll use that in my custom mix. I have a small greenhouse and am in southern Appalachia 7 b.
I just wanted to say im a new subscriber and i have been binge watching all your videos. I just love your real down to earth and heart warming content. I love your channel, your personality, and thank you for your hard work and the content.
@RochelleLJones I agree with you! I too binge watched Heather for weeks when I discovered her channel, way back when. She also has a members area that helps you get to know even her and her farm even better. I couldn’t resist that too. Welcome to the fun🫶
@janinebrown2280 right now I can't afford the membership cost of that, but I am hoping next month my finances get better along with my health. Thank you for the lovely welcome. I am looking forward to becoming more involved.
Your so welcome Heather, I love you channel and will always watch each and every video. Yesterday and today 41 new Zealand kits were born i still have one more doe to Kendall today or tomorrow. I'm fleshing rabbit hinds today and through this weekend. Yep doing a video on it. Also cooking a rabbit fir dinner in the slow cooker from the 31 rabbits that were butchered early this week. Thank you for sharing till next time God Bless.
Just a quick tip or idea for your soil with the lareger bark bits in it. I use a piece of 1/2" hardware cloth in a wood frame to sift my dirt when I'm using it for seed starting. I don't toss the larger bits, I just use it at the bottom of pots as a filler. Or in your case, use it in your raised beds.
Brassicas and its subspecies evolved from all over the world by animal consumption, migration, and early human farming/cultivation. They all evolve from the Mustard Plant.
I don't think I've disliked any vegetable I've tried, but I have a few in my house who don't care for cauliflower. They do like broccoli, so I am reminded to try some of that purple (Violet of Sicily I think?) cauliflower and see if they like it better. Isn't it funny how we're already thinking of (and planning!) our Spring gardens? Because we lost the space we used to use for seed starting ('twas a spare bedroom that is now occupied), we will figure something else out come February for starting our tomatoes and peppers. But I think starting some Spring Brassicas would be a wonderful idea (for us, they'll be relegated to growing in large containers).
oh boy, no labels for a bunch of different brassicas lol. might be fun guessing game. If you think flee beetles may be a concern start some radishes about a week or so before you transplant these brassicas so they have something they prefer to go after. Have a great day, hope the trip is a success.
@SageandStoneHomestead ya apparently some cost issue with those particular trays says the store owner 🤷🏼♀️ hopefully they can work it out!! They would be great for flowers like lisianthus or something
They are just in an open run and honestly, not much is done with them at all! They get food and water and new hay in the coop every once in a while. Cleaned out twice a year. They are more of a background character :)
Great timing with this video! I need to start mine. Planting green cabbage instead of red. I need to make more kraut! Can I say.. I just need to come hang out in your for a couple hrs! Great inspiration for me! Thank you as always. I tried to get to the store to see what deals I could get and my free pretzel but had to go get tires on my car instead🙄 adulting stinks sometimes😂
I tried to tag the seed starting trays and soil I use directly in the video, let me know what you think of that feature!
As always you were very informative. I love your vocabulary, and the beautiful way you have a forming a sentence, that always catches my attention.
Thanks so much! ♥

Always a fun day watching the videos. And I'm almost positive all is not lost when it comes to planting Beets.
Wonderful video Heather! Buster was super gentle getting his cookie today. He is a good boy! 💜👍💜 Aunt Beth

Oooo! Free pretzels! The priest EJ wrapped hotdogs at one of the local Amish shops is amazing! Have a great day!
I love seed starting! My greenhouse still has plants growing so I have to get them grown and done before I start more! 😂
Can't wait to start my seeds up. Have to start up my onions next week.
1000 broccoli seeds that might be enough for me LOL we love it steamed Raw and deep fried with cheese of course

Purple of Sicily! Definitely a broccoli texture and flavor. We have loved it!

This video is my label hahah
I love epic gardening trays they’re sooooo good! Unfortunately those 16 cell trays aren’t available in my area but I’d love to have some one day!
Oh strange that those are not available but others are?
@SageandStoneHomestead ya apparently some cost issue with those particular trays says the store owner 🤷🏼♀️ hopefully they can work it out!! They would be great for flowers like lisianthus or something
How do you raise your chickens? Would you consider doing a vlog on them?

Who knew Utah was known for celery... 😂
LOL not me!! :)
What is the name of the starter soil you are using? Thanks in advance.
This is Coast of Maine Potting soil, The Bar Harbor Blend :)
