    Quite clear. Thank you. As a newer user, it helps to also see if you select the incorrect area or plane, what happens if you do, how to deselect or undo it, and then show the correct steps.

    After making the final part, the rib, you need to extrude the right side of the rib slightly to the right, that is x-direction, and union it to the main part to get a strong joint. Otherwise, you get a line contact only between big vertical cylinder and the rib which will ultimately affect the strength of the product.

    Thanks Jai,
    Thank you for making another fantastic training lesson. Precise translation in 3D relative to a curved surface is very tricky, and so you have to really plan yout our drawing approach . The clever part to this lesson is knowing how and where to relocate the UCS origin, then correctly orientate the X-Y plane. Finally, using the legacy polyline geometry of the semi-circle-rectangular segment and then translating it to the centre of the object is a master stroke.

    For those who want to immediately jump in and defend AutoCAD please keep in mind I started out with AutoCAD for 3D work over 15 years ago, I stopped doing all 3D modeling for 10 years, and then took up SolidWorks. After watching this video I am sure I will stay with SolidWorks for 3D modeling. I find the moving of the XYZ coordinate tedious and a bit confusing. I believe this same part could have been drawn in 1/3 of the time with SW. I do not remember AutoCAD being so clunky in 3D modeling. With that statement, I would like to see two well-trained individuals draw this same part one in AutoCAD and the other using SolidWorks. It would be very interesting to see who could finish first and by how much.

    Hello there, I have a question. How do you know that you should pull 2D geometry at the height of 14 units, when converting to 3D at 7:08?This height is not specified at the projection map, and one cannot simply calculate from other dimensions, or am I missing something?

    • @hafismuhammad7028

      I also have the same doubt

    • @chichotwojay740
      @chichotwojay740 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve been looking at the drawings trying to find out what combination of given measurements work to 14 units. The only thing I can think of (having never used cad) is the radius is given for the circle 14. That radius ‘looks’ the same length as the height of the base at 14 units.
      I would like an actual answer though and not me just eye balling it lol.

      Jay, I am using ACAD 2018. I note that sometimes (yes sometimes not all times) when I do the final wedge section, the ""join"" function produces a spline and not polyline. I suspect there is something deep and subtle going on in my drawing. Are there techniques in ACAD to help solve these issues ?

    When you prepared a final rib and extruded by 6mm and then pulled by further 6mm, there will be gap at the end of the rib and the outer surface of the vertical cylinder on either side that need to be filled in. Just a thought.

    For some reason I cannot figure out, on the very last two steps. Where you extrude the strange shape 6 units in either direction. I extrude it, however it only gives me that shape, i.e. a hollow outline if you would. So rather than that nice solid extrude I get an extended outline. Any advice?

    Where does the base plate thickness of 14 come from?
    There is no such data on the drawing.
    And the 36?
    The child crying in the background is especially good.

  • @pablogascon4208

    Good, It is good to refresh. The last step, you must take care when you select the top point to create the extrusion due to you will generate a gap when you apply thickness (if you take a superior view you will see)

    great tutorial but, there is a problem; that truss you created at the end is tangent to the tall cylinder. This means that there is a gap on either side of that tangency. If the first line you drew in creating the truss had fallen short of the outside of the cylinder there would be no gap and then you could merge the truss with the cylinder. Still, a very good tutorial.

    I see that the last geometry you created (the brace between the horizontal and vertical cylinders) is flush against the horizontal cylinder, but doesn't it just barely touch the vertical cylinder? Before you enter the values of -6 and 6, you can see how it pulls away. Granted, with only a thickness of 12, it looks very close, but isn't the actual area of intersection zero (since the width is zero)? I can see how we could have filled that in by including a rectangle the width of the vertical cylinder wall before we extruded it, but can we add that volume after we make the brace?

    I personally feel the Rib you have drawn is not intersecting with the cylinder. You have extruded the rib in the best possible way but it would fail to intersect with the cylinder as the cylinder is circular in shape. Had there been a rectangle there it would have intersected considering they both have flat surfaces.

    • @sourcecad
      @sourcecad  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Chirag Jakatdar You are correct the rib needs to be made from inside cylindrical body else it will fail to merge with it and in this drawing too it has been made in best possible way but there is a gap which is left due to circular shape of cylinder.

    Hii SourceCAD,
    Can you tell me how to create 3d using (i am using autocad2014) on 2d planes 3 views mode ? is there such a feature in autocad that allow use to create 3 2d drawing to form a 3d view ? for example,
    i am drawing on plan view, front view and side view, and i links every part of the item in all 3 views together (telling autocad this line of plan view is actually that line on front view.... so on ) , then autocad will generate a 3d model of the 3 views assembled item.
    is that possible by autocad2014 ?
    thanks.
