    I like these videos analyzing fiverr services, but I think focusing on whether one used templates or not is probably interesting to web developers.
    I don't think there is a single preson (who is not a developer) who even thinks twice about this. No one ever looks at the code of a website either.

  • @Mikhael03
    @Mikhael03 3 ปีที่แล้ว +26

    I think the use of bootstrap is completely justified for $7, however, I dislike the use of templates as I feel it's not really "creating" a website for someone, you're more using something someone else has made and slapping some text on it

    • @GeekLaunch
      @GeekLaunch  3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I pretty much expected everyone to use templates given how little I was paying them. At these price points, I don't blame anybody for using templates.

    • @davideyt1242
      @davideyt1242 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the guy who made the gig is simply downloading a free design off the internet, changing the title and logo.. and charging $7 for it. no way any custom work was actually been done

    • @quab6231
      @quab6231 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      But at the same time you’re paying $7 for a template that cost $17, so I guess it’s a win win for both in a way 🤷🏽‍♂️

    • @davideyt1242
      @davideyt1242 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@quab6231 Nope, nobody will sell you a $7 gig where they pay $17 for a template - but rather download some generic half-broken, hardly ever maintained free template and use it for the $7 gig.
      Paid templates are probably used by the more expensive $40+ gigs, where the designer will buy a $17 template to make his life easier and just pocket the difference as profit.
      gigs at the price bracket of around $100 or more, are where a paid template will be used but probably also be customized to fit some specified customer needs.
      Finally, truly unique custom-made template will probably be a part of the much more expensive gigs, where you pay north of $300-350, but get a one off, unique design template. one that nobody else have because it is not available to purchase anywhere (custom made design, from scratch)
      Even on those "cheap" freelancer platforms, for anything more complex then a static html landing page, you really get what you paid for

      and idk why thy would need a theme for that its really simple

    • @Draghful
      @Draghful 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's most likely due to the fact that those "devs" actually have no idea how CSS actually works. I've been in a Facebook group with lots of freelance "web-devs" who pretty much skip CSS and go straight to bootstrap.
      I'd never consider bootstrap for a site of that scale but then again bootstrap is also most likely part of the themes they use.
      Fiverr is.... a weird place for web-development. It's considered "ez money" in some countries and those guys are pretty much all just throwing themselves onto Fiverr to get that ez money with themes or website builders.
      I mean ... a website, even if it's just a single pager for 7$? I'd make more money by collecting PET bottles on the street.

    If you really want quality work, it won't cost a few dollars. but I guess that for a very simple landing page that might work.

      @@deleteduser5336 yes, but people on those platforms are looking for "good looking" for a "lowball price".. people are looking for a "bang for their buck" rather than quality that pays.. that is why you see a ton of complete amateurs having thousands of orders - they claim they will develop an app that is responsive, beautiful, and using all the best stacks etc.. all for like $15... that can never happen in reality unless they are willing to work for a loss ...
      Just using react without any fancy stuff on top of it is fine as long as your customer is aware of what he is getting... even if you are a react wizz... you will never be able to make it sensible to develop even the most basic react apps for 5-30$, the dumbest app you will probably get to do will take you at least a few hours to put together... your time as a software developer (if you are good) for 3-4 hours development time for the most basic app is already worth more than $30...
      when I say basic app - today people take a basic app as much more than a static one page application.. my 2 cents

    • @GeekLaunch
      @GeekLaunch  3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      By no means is Bootstrap bad, in fact, I still use it on some projects. However, too often it is used in cases when it is not warranted: Bootstrap provides a lot of functionality, and if you're only using a few pieces of it, you may be better off just writing those pieces from scratch to save your website the bloat of having to load the ENTIRE Bootstrap library. Additionally, if you're just learning how to code, you are probably better off learning how to write all of your styles from scratch instead of learning with a library, because that way you won't be tied to a library and you will be less likely to use it as a crutch. Overall, it will make you a more flexible programmer if you don't tie yourself to a library from the get-go.

      @@dzexii There's no true yes or no about Bootstrap, but in general: If you have a project where the design isn't important and/or you have a lot of working going on in the back-end, like a complicated JS project or whatever, Bootstrap can save time. If not, you're probably going to re-edit most of the Bootstrap elements and it would be much easier to do it by scratch. Unless you have a really large project, typing all the CSS by hand isn't going to take forever
