We as a city said no more and stopped going to games and boy when mlb saw that the team with best attendance stopped showing up. You bet your ass they made him sell .
Really sorry for the fans who have to go through this. Peter was obviously a committed owner whose passing flipped this organization on it's ear. It's really a shitty deal with greedy survivors apparently rushing in for the spoils. Unfortunately this situation does have the dangerous similarity and may yet become one of a ballclub owned by the next deadbeat billionaire owner. Hopefully if it trends further that way, MLB could step in and force a sale to a legitimate owner as they did with the McCourt situation. The Padres deserve to be owned by real professionals who have the know how and the money to invest and grow a professional baseball franchise. Not another Ma and Pa Kettle roll your own, "wouldn't it be great if I could become a do nothing Padres owner".

@@Vinny6288won’t solve a thing. They need to sell and they MUST RELOCATE! Sd is a cursed city, they will never win a title if they stay! This is there golden ticket out of town! I give them 5 years tops
I don't think in profar's situation it's a matter of the ownership sustainability. As far as I know they never even offered him a contract. So given the right amount of money he would have gladly come back to San Diego regardless of the ownership situation which I think is true with most free agents. The contracts are guaranteed so what do they care? It's the ownership that isn't offering anything to the free agents to even turn down. But regardless of the ownership situation I still would not have given Profar a three-year contract just because he had a little more than half a good season. So regardless of the ownership they still couldn't afford to have another bad contract and I think that's what it would have end up being. His career numbers don't warrant a 3-year contract and neither does half a good season. Give him over 40 million and he reverts back to his career numbers of being a 240 hitter with the ability to hit 15 home runs and strike out a lot. That would be devastating to the Padres payroll. Just look what Jake's contract has done to the Padres. 7 YEARS, That's why he's so difficult to move, it's not so much the amount per season it's the length of the contract just like Manny and X, it's the length.
Remember when we were saying will be back next year after the 23 scoreless innings…. Yeah looks like we are never getting back to that unless the owners sell to a true fan
Let’s try to keep this in context… Profar says there were ownership issues with the Padres, but I believe the context was in their pursuit of him as it relates to what they were willing to spend. Atlanta came in and blew everybody else out of the water with that offer. Even if there were no ownership issues, I still feel like he was overpaid for the projected production over the next three years. It’s obvious that he had a career year last year, especially seeing as though he’s a 10 year vet. He’s at an age where he is expected to decline. Perhaps Profar is projecting the lack of matching Atlanta‘s offer by the Padres as the Padres having ownership issues and being unable to spend right now.
You know your team is in trouble when you have to go to arbitration with your star pitcher over $1.5 million. This ownership lawsuit could go for a couple years.
