Subaru has a very special kind of outgoing energy that's a slam dunk for the role. That kind of natural charisma is not easily replaced. A significant amount of the clips of Subaru are of just her talking by herself, because pure undiluted Subaru is already so entertaining.

Well, my mother is a hiring manager. And she told me that motivation really is a major factor when it comes to hiring someone because someone who looks motivated enough can definitely be trained to do well in the office. As opposed to people who know a lot and get bored quickly because they're doing something that they've been doing their entire lives. It also promotes toxicity when someone like that is in the team.
Yes, that's why being overqualified for a position is very much a thing considered when making hiring decisions

The earlier generations in particular are filled with people without financial hardships, like Haachama, Sora, Robocco, Suisei, Miko, Azki, Fubuki, Matsuri, Aqua, Shion... honestly, most of them don't have a poverty story or, if they did, it's something they have been over for a long time like Marine. People like Kanata, Subaru, Noel etc are the exception. Not sure about bad situation as well considering a large portion of them were established streamers already.

@@LemonRush7777 If you listen to some of those girls like haachama I don't think things were very good for them. like haachama used to be completely miserable and trapped in a shared housing that had no respect for her and constantly mocked her about her bad english. She felt like a total outcast before Hololive.
Matsuri is supposedly a former well known voice actress but when you listen to the stuff that comes out of her mouth you get the feeling she feels pretty liberated to speak more freely.
And the others even if they were financially stable, talk about the past as being pretty rough for them.

I'm surprised charisma wasn't listed amongst the reasons they took her, it's certainly why she has such an overseas following, and why I can't recall any of the girls being anything other than relaxed around her. Charisma is people buying into you from as early as the first sentence, to the point they don't ignore you when you speak, this is Subaru all over, from her viewers to anyone she streams with. Helps that she is, despite admitting to lying here, a brutally honest streamer too. All that is super rare, particularly when you want quality in a very nebulous entertainment market like VTubing.
She went from getting carried by Kiara in HoloTalk to basically summarising her convos in Eng herself.
That's why YAGOO was right that she's passionate.
I recently watched the animation Hololive made of her ASMR stream where she shook the water bottle and the listeners were calling her Donald Duck. It has to be the funniest thing I've watched in years.

She's one of the few talents that understand it's not just about them streaming to an audience and be done with it, it's about providing an overall entertainment service to multiple overlapping audiences. It's absolutely no surprise Yagoo smiled when he witnessed that, it's pure gold.

Just proves that her motivation and positive energy was so high, the Cover staff suddenly felt acknowledged and revitalized in their project - even if she basically knew nothing of the actual tech and company.
Back then Hololive was still a smallish thing and Cover wasn't exactly sure of where to go (their music label had mixed results for example), while not all their talents were growing and they already had one cancelled early on, so the future wasn't too clear for Cover.
Then a random candidate shows up with no prior experience, no knowledge about their tech, thinking it's just a side job, but then suddenly the Cover staff is thinking "This is it! We're gonna make it! If we work hard, Cover will be successful!". It's just crazy.
I mean, regardless of Subaru's individual success, such energy for a company is priceless: she believed in them so much (despite knowing nothing about them) that they could only believe in her as well (despite knowing nothing about her).
The way they completely brushed off the fact she was clumsily trying to talk her way in by faking her technical skills just shows how much more important _real_ trust is for a group: they trusted her so much that not only they knew her quackering was solely to get signed in (which is understandable on a personal level) but _not_ to betray them, as they also trusted her to actually acquire the necessary skills in time to actually get the work done and not cheat them out of their time and funds - they didn't trust her technical CV, they trusted her as a person. That's just priceless.
I'm so glad she was picked. Quite a scary thought thinking that back then they could hire someone for being passionate, but these days they're hard pressed to only pick the best of the best due to the sheer number of applicants. Subaru was among the diamonds in the rough who eventually got polished and is now shining bright.
I think more recent members show that they still try to have at least one person in any given batch that is not as established. Nene literally got hired basically because she was very persistent and now look at her.
ive watched holomyth the most. gura and amelia were already good streamers who've even used live2d type stuff for streaming. calli though was never a streamer, just a great animator and singer. and kiara was only ever an aspiring model, and Ina was just a good artist. its great to see all of them become confortable with this format of streaming

Several Hololive members have mentioned that Subaru is smart / one of the smartest among them. Even though she downlplays it all the time, she must have impressed them with more than her passion. The point "she had good planning skills and put an emphasis on service" sounds.. ordinary, but she obviously was able to impress them a lot with it.

I think Yagoo is one of those types of people who're incredible judge of someone's character and potentials. Not only did he hire Subaru, but we have to remember that in the 5 years of long-running service, Hololive is the agency with absolutely the least number of reported internal struggles or ugly incidents between the talents. Another incredible fact is that Yagoo was the one who took the time to meet with a mere high school girl and her friend, listened to their pitch on a new service idea, and then made the decision for his company to go forth with the project... that project, eventually became hololive, and those two girls just out of high school, are Sora and A-chan. If he was in the sports industry, he might have become a legendary scouter. He has a knack for smelling out talent.

I think it was probably more the fact that Yagoo wanted to have different personalities and styles for the different "idols" and Subaru has one of the most unique and tomboyish personalities out of all the girls, he probably liked the fact she was way different than everyone else.
Yagoo has the same energy like a Producer from Idolmaster Cinderella Girls.
Yagoo recruited Subaru due to she had a lot of spirit.

Genuinely, that is impressive that the hiring manager could recognize Subaru's qualities. I am amazed at good interviewers who notice deeper qualities like passion and planning. All of Hololive are skilled and talented in individual ways, and I think Subaru's charm and talents are very unique from other members. She actually feels like a true tomboy from anime with a cute side and being that character in everything she does speaks volumes about her talent.

It's actually really nice to know they take in people that they think have a lot of potential too even if they don't have a lot of skills up front.
