I won’t lie as an ex Bootneck i can’t help but admire this woman….anyone who’s ever endured bottom field will know what a honking place that can be…..that trepidation of covering off behind the ropes feeling like your feet are sinking into the gravel….the wet muddy rope in winter feels like it’s too slippy to possibly climb. Maximum respect to you, and you learned more about yourself overcoming massive struggle than the phyz monster who breezes it first time . Respect
As an Ex AA Navy medic I share your sentiment!.. even some 40 years later bottom field vibes still gives me nightmares 🙂Love the fact she smashed it!..
I enjoy Phil Campion's interview technique, and he was particularly disarming with this subject. And what a terrific subject she was. Very inspiring. We all get to a point in our lives when the best thing we can achieve is to encourage the future generations to greater things.
Wow at 65 this young lady has inspired me to keep going This is the sort of roll models we need in society for all youngsters I do get the honour of mentoring service personnel with fishing for forces and when the day ends they go away smiling and laughing who caught the biggest fish etc it makes me feel I’ve given something back Thank you Phil for bringing these amazing people into our lives
It's wonderful to hear how inspired you are Roy! Role models like that can truly make a difference in our lives and motivate us to keep pushing forward. Keep up the great work with mentoring-you're making a positive impact👏🏻
I am so glad I’ve discovered Lily and got to follow her adventures on social media . I have been trying to get to military for past five years myself and she’s been a real inspiration and motivator to me . Thank you for sharing your story🙏🏻 .
Top interview this. Full of admiration for Lily-Mae, takes real mental and physical strength to get over all of these hurdles. Hopefully she can inspire of younger generation of people into the armed forces.
As a retired 65 year old male, I would like to say what an inspiration this young woman is. Not only to other young women/girls but to young males as well.
Another stunning interview. What a charming, engaging and enlightened young lady. I love the "I will achieve this!" attitude, big Phil is a master of this medium. I cannot praise you folks highly enough. Definitely DFC calibre.
Excellent interview! In the 90s in NI there were women serving in 14int, not sure if any of them would ever go public even now, but that would no doubt be a fantastic interview subject and make people realise how much women do in the forces. There's also the author of Dressed to Kill, the first female Apache pilot, who brought a totally different view from say Ed Macy's Apache book.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! The contributions of women in the forces are often overlooked, and highlighting their stories would indeed be powerful.
Amazing young woman. It's remarkable how having a positive and determined mindset can help you achieve your goals. I haven't done a commando course, just a 6 month training course for the police when I joined and I have mad respect for her achieving that, its awesome.
Thank you for your thoughtful comment, It's inspiring to see how determination can lead to incredible achievements, and it's great to hear about your own journey in training.💪🏼
What an inspirational individual. I really enjoyed the interview. I’ve never served in the military but I have learned about the military mindset and I believe it has helped me in life.
Thank you for your kind words! Lily-Mae truly embodies strength and determination, and her journey is a testament to what one can achieve with hard work.🤩
I’ve taught school pupils for nearly 40 years, how people deal with failure is probably the most important character trait. Most of my successful pupils have at some point failed but then turned it around.
Well done lily, you such an inspiration to me ,you're story gave me a boost of brightness in my confidence, keep your head up, and move forward. After all, nothing is impossible if you believe in it !Thank you for sharing. You are a mighty hero 💪💪💪💪Well done
I have great respect for your achievement. Your comment that one of the biggest challenges you faced was psychological is very relevant. Having instructed on Selection Courses for the Irish SF, I have always reckoned that it is more mental than physical. If your head isn't in the right space, it doesn't matter about your physical strength. Best of luck in your career.
16:00 - as someone going through the process to become an Army Reserve right now, I can't tell prospective candidates how important this is. You're not hassling anyone, you're just ensuring you get the service you should be getting without asking for it.
A young lady I know wanted to get to qualify for the RMC. She did get past some steps but after being involved in a training program she broke her pelvis during training and had to give up. As she said she was motivated but knew pretty much it would not be easy.
Royal Navy commando back in many many years ago I was drafted to a marine unit had to go and do the marine course the worst time of my life when I said to drafty if I wanted to be a Royal Marine, I would’ve joined as a role Marine, however I didn’t get out of it. Enjoyed the course in the end made me the man. I am today at 62 years of age this yearthey look back at those days with fond memories, but that was hard grafted, especially for a sailor who never really prepared for it and was drafted to it, they don’t do that now as far as I know.
Hat off to lily_mae. doesnt matter what other people say about her, as a female attempting commando course itself a massive challenge. I've seen male HM force personal these days who does not even bother to attempt for P-company or commando course & does not have mental robustness like she has. Atleast she had that determination & mental robustness. I would love listen the debrief of female who passed p coy on future episode.
Well done young lady!! What an inspiration you are to the next generation coming up to adulthood. Keep doing what you love 🥰 best wishes for your future.
Absolute role model, in fact you are both role models. As for the haters just remember that you have achieved things that none of those ever will. Good luck in your career.
Great great achievement, a tremendous achievement, my son and two daughters are serving and have an insight as to the demands of training especially to wear the Lovat green. Good luck Lily with your career
What an amazing achievement you reached so early. You're going to have an amazing future. If some random civvy says hello and well done while handing you the fuel hose at Heliops on portland, that'll more than likely be me... Excellent podcast as always
@ForceRadioHQ if you ever find yourself near Portland Dorset and want to have a tour around some sea king helicopters, you're more than welcome to come and visit
Truely an insperational women, my step son and his partner are Spanish. In uni I love them to sit and listen to this women well done girl, and you Phil
Big Phil’s comment about trolling the trolls. I’m living in your head rent free. Classic. I’m definitely nicking that. And renaming him The Big Philosopher!
I heard from a mate, that sweden has female SF operators. They passed selection. I even heard that a few women passed U.S SEAL traing😮😮. Fucking immense.

What an amazing inspirational Lady with so much drive and determination about her, with a lovely sense of humor about her, love ❤️ the way she wants to inspire other woman as well, sending her my best wishes for her future goals, loved listening to her story.🫡🙏🏻🌹🥰
Big up anyone, male or female, that intends to serve our nation in any of the military services; Navy, Marines, Army, or Airforce. I put them in order of official rank superiority, out of respect for the past an tradition, you know we had an navy before an army, however, it is armies that win wars, an that's who I served with. But, bless her.
His young woman is an excellent example of what women can achieve in the military. Her drive and commitment is inspiring. Trump's proposed pick for new defence chief should take note.
All respect I’ve done the commando course but couldn’t do the pilot cse but than again I bust have been a right biff as always had the GPMG to carry 😂😂😂
The rope story is a bit of a metaphor for life. I was lucky enough to work with a group of young women just like her when I was a young cocky and very strong and fit young man, I learnt a lot about being a good man because of these women. I then married an incredible women who I have massive respect for. So the point is if your very lucky man you get to spend time with amazing women. There are far to many misogamist young men on this platform who really need to get out into the shit and find out who they really could be.
It's wonderful to hear how your experiences with strong women shaped your perspective on respect and growth. Life is all about learning from the people around us💪🏼
This only goes to show what a liberal free society offers everyone that is willing to take the challenges ! No caps no shackles ! Respect Lily because you enforce this principle through action, not words. 'Well done is better than well said'
The Royal Marines offer other services the opportunity to do an all arms Commando course. They do the course at Commando training centre Lympstone. The course includes all of the commando tests, 9 mile speed march, endurance course,Tarzan assault course,30 miler. The successful candidates are then allowed to wear the commando green beret with their own unit cap badge. They are often attached to the Royal Marines 3rd commando brigade either as individuals such as medics, or they serve in independent commando units such as the Royal engineers ,Royal artillery. I served as a Royal Marine in the late 70s and to complete a commando course is a fantastic achievement. Well done to her.👍

Why aren't you adding these to Spotify?
Hi this episode will be added to spotify next week.

Great interview! Please try to position the mic better, her voice fades in and out
Thanks so much for your feedback👍🏻
someone needs to explain to me what is a Royal Navy Commando. The only commandos I'm familiar with are Royal Marine Commandos.
