      @@ChampChamp2024he'd obviously smash being a bootneck but doing the commando course doesn't make you one. Phil isn't a compulsive liar so I'm not talking about him here but It's like when Ant Middleton goes around lying about being in the Paras when he went nowhere fucking near them. He was as much a para as a fucking traffic warden is. He did p coy as a sapper and then goes around jibbing he was a para. Obviously he could do depot easily but the point I'm making is doing the arduous courses doesn't make you one of them even if by virtue of being sf you could clearly smash being anything else.

      As someone with ADHD who can recognize the signs, this is almost certainly ADHD. There's no offense intended here, it's something I deal with on a daily basis. But I do think anyone who might be dealing with it themselves should consider at least talking about it with a mental health professional. In my case it's #3 or 4 on the list of issues so it's not a priority, but the top few issues have been ameliorated to an extent so it's still been worthwhile.

    Phil is a great guy. I'm now 37, however when I was 19, saw him in the local pub called the fox and hounds. Run by a lovely lady called sue... I had completed training after 6 weeks with the TA (nothing great, I know) but, it was great to me. The reason why I did it was because the burst of the Internet and media about Phil. He's such a positive character and an impact on me. I was shocked and wished I approached him.... I may have times and dates wrong, but I was still young and still to this day admire him. I even saw him 2 years ago walking along the local river, wish I stopped the car and said hello

      “Nothing great, I know” is bollocks mate.
      You’ve done a whole lot more than I - and 99% of the country - have ever been arsed to do, so hats off to you for it. Should be proud of it nonetheless.
      I once asked Big Phil (on one of his weekly live streams a couple of years back) for his thoughts, coz I was looking to retrain as an officer in the Intelligence Corps, and he did give a bit of decent, down to earth, no-nonsense advice.
      Was partly due to his advice that I decided to chin it off, remain a civie, and get a nice, warm, office job instead 😂 (And embarrassingly, just had a bit of fun on weekends cutting about in the woods with airsoft guns and a group of lads that should have known better 😅 )
      So, if you do bump into him again at some point, please pass on my thanks for that. 😅

      Oh adorable Brandon. That's because the sh*tbag SEALs nobody inside still likes get out and write more books the guys who take their jobs and oaths seriously won't dispute in public, but privately those guys are blacklisted from the SEAL community in ways you never hear about. It's a very private affair and they prefer to keep it that way for a reason. It's literally a reflection of them being one of the most struggling SOF cultures in many ways, and many people in the SOF communities in America see it and comment on it pretty openly. I have personally witnessed that SEALs are not always the bravest, toughest fighting force on the planet as Hollywood would have us believe. Some are amazing. They have a larger culture problem though.

    • @user-rr5ce1wb2j
      @user-rr5ce1wb2j 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      The SAS was the first SF regiment. All other SF are modeled after them (if you go back far enough). Who's to say who has the best special forces but the SAS certainly paved the way and have been doing it the longest.

    • @andersjjensen
      @andersjjensen 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      When you get to the US Seals, UK SAS, Royal Danish Frogmen or Jægers, etc, etc, there is no "who is better". There is only "who is better on that particular day, in that particular situation". Nobody is at peak performance constantly, and nobody can train every for eventuality simultaneously. It's literally going to come down to who had what for breakfast and who has most recently practiced a similar situation type.
      I watched an interview with a US Ranger and his said something like "We're not THAT much better than other forces. People make us out to be some kind of super humans, but in reality we're only fractions of seconds faster. But when everyone on one side is a fraction of a second quicker to orient themselves, a faction of a second quicker at making a decision, a fraction of a second faster at aiming and just a little bit better at hitting... things start going bad for the other side really quick too. And once that ball starts rolling two almost even forces become very uneven in a couple of minutes", and I think that said it very succinctly without getting too graphical.

    • @andersjjensen
      @andersjjensen 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The term "terrorism" has lost a lot of it's meaning. Now it pretty much means "Any non-state actor we don't like, and any state actor who has a different idea about what war means than we do".
      Terrorism used to refer to practices that instill fear in the public with the explicit goal of causing political change. Like the plane bombings where the group subsequently issued a statement saying "if X, Y and Z aren't released from prison we will do it again" in the hopes the population would be scared enough to cause political pressure for a release.
      Taking hostages and demanding money was never terrorism. Taking hostages and demanding political change or release of someone, in exchange for not killing the hostages, is. Robbing a ship is just robbery. But we have a special term for robbery at sea, which is piracy.

    This was great, I recognised the name from the documentary he references. The guy has so much enthusiam and is probably one of, if not the best story teller from the armed forces. The way he recites his past is funny, captivating, enthusiatic, chilling and perhaps more importantly, real; at the same time. We need more people like Phil on TV. Im sure kids in school would much rather listen to Phil give advice than some Love Island reject...
    Phil you have my utmost respect for your service and your story. Thankyou.

    If you buy his book born fearless then you get the full story, i think this interview has been edited , was nice to see Phil or "camps" as he is known turn up in Winchester for a mates leaving drinks a couple of months back, he is actually quite a quiet humble bloke in real life , was a member of close observation platoon in the Royal Hampshires and also has passed the all arms Royal Marines commando course 0:03
