Do they still have exercises/ training grounds that civilians can come to and get training. I know there used to be cause i got trained in Edinburgh base for 3 years, but if it doesn't happen anymore its something the militray should start doing again. Plus thyd earn a fortune cause qlot people me included would pay for that kind of training, cause lets be honest only so much you can do in a gym lol

In 1981 I trained for Para reg We did 4 exercises in Brecon. On one occasion we were out on night patrol. We walked right through a Ghurka camp, right thru the middle. They were all sound asleep.

What a great interview as a former infantryman myself I love listening to Phil . The Tornado along with the Vulcan bomber are my all time favorite aircraft so listening to a pilot in this aircraft was superb thank you Ma’am

A great listen. It reminded me of some great times in Log BN in the '90's and doing Ex Purple Star. I remember the day when Yorkie creamed in, it was a very tense time waiting to see if he'd make it.

you couldnt get someone that has lived maybe a more extreme life and yet its like meeting the nicest cartaker that could kill you with a tea spoon while putting on a tie. a 51 yr old council estate boy here great to see you boys and be reminded why we have the best SF in the world . kier starmer could do with getting a reality check in humility and common sense by spending time with you two. great stuff.

Not really a confession of mine, but maybe one someone could admit too. December 1981 I'm at RAF Catterick, halfway through my fireman's training. After a long day on the fireground, I drag my weary arse to the NAAFI that was located at the back of the mess hall. I round a corner and the sun is just above the horizon. I'm instantly blinded and then less than half a second later something hits me, so hard it knocks me into a flower bed (of non flowering greenery) I suffer from sensory overload for a few seconds and then as I'm thinking WTF just happened, I see a very young looking rock ape (RAF Regiment) officer balancing on his toes on the edge of the footpath, leaning forward and saluting me while "Screaming" well then... well then? As smartly as I could in the prone position, I came to attention on that bed of greenery and gave him my best salute. He grunted, then off he fooked. Leaving me lying in the foliage thinking, did that really just happen. If you were that officer, I'd love to hear your perspective :)

I confess in 1982 my mates who used to nick my Nestle choccy bar ( fat fuckers ) everyday at school got a serious taste of the MAJOR TROTS . My mum bought Exlax chocolate for herself so I thought while Mock exams were on ide sought the lads a proper Nestle morning and consequently gave them about 4 squares each out of 2 bars of Exlax ( 7 lads ) . Well I heard all about them shitting themselves and one just made the classroom door to go to loo when WHOOSH too late he farted hahahahaha . So sorry lads it was me haha haha cheers mate 😁😁👍🇬🇧

Half my family are from stoke. Lovely people, never heard any racism from them and like they sasy here it was a long time ago. I'm from leeds and i saw plenty as a kid. Never saw any when i was in teh forces though and i worked with black lads and sikhs..we all got on really well.

Fantastic chat Phil, I could listen to Liz again and again. The banter was just great, talking about "Scran" and "Brass evrywhere" just brough back so many memories. Another book sale here.
