You guys are the most educational golf teachers on TH-cam. Incredible stuff. I'm so glad to have come across your channel. Visualisation of concepts through animations is profoundly easier to understand.
The first time I heard what your videos demonstrate about hand path and club path was in de la Torre's book on the golf swing. Thanks for reminding me of their importance. Those videos of Tiger and Rory were awesome.
When I learned about hand path my swing got so much better, thanks to AMG I now hit the ball better than ever before and makes golf fun! When you said in a previous vid to just let the left arm drop and be sure the hands travel between the toes and ball, never at or outside the ball. The light really came on guys! Thanks for all you do.
I picked up on your hand path video these tips. Having had years of issues with rotation and the driver... I can now say it is by far the best I have ever hit driver and am super keen to see my swing on video to confirm. For the first time i have decided not to film in a couple of months and rather just play and concentrate on finding that feel.
Amazing video! Really like how you guys teach simple thoughts/motions that are easy to follow and clean up so many things in the swing. These videos and the live lessons have been the biggest help! Thanks for all your content!
Shaun and Mike - wishing you a very happy joyous and healthy 2022! Love the Drill to get to the top ! But what drill do you have to get the proper transition motion of left hand going along that "green" line you showed for Tiger? Thanks and keep safe. Cheers Larry
you guys have done great work clarifying what really takes place - the videos on backswing depth, shallowing & now this. what do you think about approaching the topic of "stable clubface" through impact / release? Think most of us ams don't know what it really is and we end up trying to guide or even hold the clubface through impact leading to speed loss etc. thanks
Thank you AMG (yet again) for another great golf instruction video, revealing key movements and mechanics of great golf swings. Eventually we with anomalous golf swings will become less anomalous; and better ball strikers thanks to AMG. Wishing you all the best AMG. Keep up the good work.
I like many others have been scared of "casting" from the top. However is it in fact more the case that you should "cast from the top" that is accelerate the hands down and extend the trail arm but the important thing is that you do this "cast" in the correct direction relative to the body, so down and behind not foward?
Perfect video to dissect my game today. I believe I’m over rotating going back. How do you tell where YOUR Top of Swing is? I’m tired of hearing how great my swing looks! There’s not a space on the card for Looks!
Then internal rotation of the upper arm has to stop to allow the club to catch up. What you feel is a slap motion with the trail hand. Bryson found this out several days ago in an aha moment when he was on the range. It too will produce the swish look of the club path.
How do you move/transition the body at the top to bring the hands down on that correct path, instead of the over the top Phelps move? Link to a recommended video?
Place a light on the swing plane, above and behind the golfer. The shadow of the club, on the ground, will trace a straight line. 3 points define a plane: the ball, the target, and the center of rotation at the spine /shoulder intersection. watching the shadow gives instant feedback.
Thanks, always amazing content. I have seen a lot of what's next in the DS to get more vertical hand path, the magic move where lower the R arm and open up R elbow to last parallel.... looks great for me in the DTL view but in the face on hands are too far behind and can't get shaft lean etc.
Love this guys Currently just started working on one of your motion drills regarding takeaway and can see improvements after just a few sessions. I am getting steep in transition though what’s a good feel for getting the hand path moving correctly?
Glad it’s helping! Checkout some of our live lessons for getting that hand path moving correctly 👍. We can certainly do a dedicated video on that for everyone.
Love the video and channel. I started thinking this was a transition video and seems to be a backswing video. I was looking for how to swoosh back to the slot. Or did I miss something? Thanks guys.
Agree. Need another video specifically explaining how to achieve the more vertically downward hand path and how this sequences with the rest of the down swing components - ie. is it like Justin Rose rehearses feel of back staying closed longer to target while left arm “rides down” the chest before rotation takes over. Or some other good feel/motion to practice?
I was hoping you would show a more isolated demonstration of the Correct Right (Trail) Arm Position "at the top". With the Hip Flexion and the Backswing Rotation it's a bit difficult to see the actual relationship between the Shoulder, Elbow, and Hand. Great thoughts in this Video. Thanks, guys.
*This rates up there with Lessons exhibited with good players plus 3 Simple Drills To Transform Your Golf Swing, not in any specific order. Great content guys I get it.*
In the video of Tiger, it looks like his shoulders begin to turn at the same time as his hips, and that the left arm begins that motion pinned to his chest. So left arm pinned as rotation begins, YET he has the correct hand path (left arm slides down?). In the Phelps video, he leaves left arm pinned and rotation takes him over the top. What is Tiger doing differently to start that hand motion down? Thanks.
I have known the proper positions in many cases for decades. I still can't figure out how to implement all this info into my swing. I have been golfing since the mid 90s, read countless books, watched videos, taken a lesson or 2. And I am a decent golfer. 10-14 handicap for probably 20 years straight, depending on the year. Trying that whole time to improve. I have hit more golf balls than many. I have put in a lot of time. I still have no idea how to get better at this game. Literally none. The best score I ever shot was like the 4th year I was golfing. You would think scores would go down as time went on. Not in this game. Not for most of us. Most average golfers don't know how to get better. And I have now convinced myself most pros don't know how we can better either. So they just keep throwing spaghetti at the wall, giving us tips and drills, hoping we find something works. I still love watching these videos. I think these guys are as good as anyone on you tube. I still hold out hope for the magic drill or tip that sets me on the path to improvement. I am SO much more knowledgeable thanks to them and other you tube teachers. I just still have no idea how to actually get better at golf, particularly ball striking. None. The next person I meet who got better at golf through his golfing life, not counting the beginner stage, will literally be the first.
@@AthleticMotionGolf what I took from the start of the video was the importance of the hand path down from transition, as this was the main point of emphasis; hence my disappointment that you did not provide a drill, within this video, to demonstrate how to do it.
@@thurlestonetennis2447 the start of the video shows clubhead path which is demonstrating the topic of the video. We can do another hand path video, but it won’t matter if what we cover here isn’t functional.
IMO, first of all, need to figure out one point, what's the relationship between backswing and downswing path, or, is it necessary for downswing to trace back the backswing path? Pros and cons to do so, etc..
Hi Mike and Shaun, While your hand path is going down in the transition, what is your lower body doing? Feet knees and hips specifically. By the way your swing system is awesome. Got it on Black Friday. Thx in advance. Dr Andrew Kwon
Awesome! Thanks for getting the Swing System we're glad you are enjoying it! The trail knee will gain bend as the lead knee loses bend. The changing knee bends will rotate the hips in sequence as your mass moves over your lead leg.
Did you watch the Jason Day house tour video? He loves using the sim for swing changes as you are working on technique and not worrying about ball flight and trying to “correct” your swing based on that.
Phil Knight is going to sue you for intellectual property copyright violation. ... Tiger is going ask for some coin too... And TaylorMade is going to feel upset and left out.... Now I have to back it up because I wasn't paying attention...
This element of the swing seems like a perfect example of a “latent” consequence of good form and timing elsewhere, rather than an intentional move or positioning. Personally, when I shift/rotate my hips in the manner you teach in rotation videos, i.e., recentering and shifting forward BEFORE the top of the backswing, my hands naturally drop for a split second, almost waiting for the forward inertia to trigger them back down. On the other hand, arm/hands oriented swings with poor timing instantly drive the hands down and over to “hit at” the ball. In my experience, “latent” moves like this are more effectively taught by focusing on the foundational moves that influence them. IMHO, this is not a move that can be intentionally done. It’s more of a result of proper rotation/shift and timing. In other words, when the hips properly shift and the swing transition is well timed, it’s almost impossible to swing over the top.
The key is finding the right que for you, which it sounds like you’ve done🙌. Some folks are the exact opposite and why we like to cover things as they should happen. We find as long as folks are working towards that end goal, the individual feels can very quite a bit.
i watched one swing of his when he was at greystone....lol he still hasn't fixed it. he hit a nine iron like 50 yards he swiped it that bad....he needs a physical device combined with foot balance board...he's played too much, too ingrained...when i tried lefty for awhile, that was my swing, it's just how your body goes when you start..drift to arm drop it's like everything.....how every pro warms up
But this is just picking two roll release swings that aren't particularly pivot driven. There are many ways to swing a club, ya? Put Robert Garrigus up there and analyze his swing. His hands most definitely move out toward the ball from the top and he was a top ball striker on tour for 15 years. If he could chip or putt, he would be top 10 name in the game. Wolff, DJ, CM, Hovland, etc, hands all move out toward the ball, not down. I'm not saying either is 'right', just so many different ways to swing a club.
Wolff, DJ, CM, (haven't analysed Hovland's yet) all move down, or BACK in DJ"s case, not out to start downswing. We've document them here on the channel. The group we see most who take the hands out are higher handicap golfers. I'm not sure anyone has collect more pro and am swings on 3D than we have, the evidence on this is as black and white as what you're reading here. There really aren't so many ways to do it. They either start down, back, or out. Ams are great at doing the last option, pros at doing the first two. Be careful looking for outliers as proof of something. It can lead to missing what the other overwhelming majority of great players do.
