Let’s break this down! The passion! The energy despite obvious exhaustion! The generosity of sharing the spotlight with Clarence and Stevie! The lyrics - the historical nod to the 1968 Memphis sanitation workers strike! The showmanship! The harmonica! Perfection in spite of the occasional variation from the official recording! His mastery of musical and performance timing!
Whenever I feel beat and overburdened , Bruce's music makes me feel alive and supercharged again . I have never done drugs but doubt it feels any better than the high his music takes me to .
My daughter was born at 25 weeks old and spent 91 days in the NiCU. This was one of many songs (this version) I would listen to everytime there and back. Have a hard time listening to it now lol. A truly inspirational song and incredible version! Btw, my daughter is an absolute warrior and has astounded all doctors as the most incredible 25 weeker they’ve ever seen!
For someone who has battled addiction most of my adult life, now sober, Music keeps me in the light. Today it’s The Boss and The Big Man’s turn to make the day ok. Off the hook performance….
I cant agree more!!! América woken up and going out to the streets to shout, the day Darkness was reléased... It must have been one of the greatest moments in the continent since 1492
Bruce, you have practically saved my life, you give me a reason to continue living, keep dreaming and keep pushing. Nobody, ever, has done that. I always say that the boss has one song for each/every feeling. For me, you are the best artist in the history. Love u, thanks for your music
River Tour ... played at the Rosemont Horizon ( in the shadow of O'Hare Airport) from 8pm till 1am ( played from midnight till 1am with the house lites on) ... played every song any fan would have wanted to hear .... The greatest Era to be a youth ever ... wouldn't trade it for anything ...I agree with all the posts ...
As a guy who grew up on this second generation (I’m 28) it’s just as powerful as ever and will forever be. Thank god for my parents showing me this stuff when I was a kid
@@taylorblackburn277 nobody showed me who he was tho they knew him and had listened to him plenty of times. I’m 18 and discovering him was one of the best things in my life

seen a LOT of concerts since Jan 20, 1981..including a couple dozen Boss shows..but nothing has ever come close to my first Bruce show..4hrs of THIS..concert started just after 8pm and we walked out into a freezing January night after midnight transformed. As the saying goes, for those who understand, no explanation is needed, & for those that dont, none will suffice.
I saw him at L.A. Sports Arena in 1980, Halloween night. I was 13. My big brother who was 18, took me. Changed my fucking life! We went again in '81 on the second leg of the same River tour. And amazingly enough we both caught him again in 2016 at the same Los Angeles Sports Arena for the 35th Anniversary River tour. Only now I was 48 and he was 53. A few times that night we both had tears of pure joy in our eyes. Bruce is hands down the best in rock.
we all believe in a promised land for , but few are the ones who actually go and purse their dream, this song inspires me so much to stop rotting away in my home and actually start chasing something better, its a hard life but is harder when you dont get what you dreamed for
“Blow away the dreams that tear you apart, blow away the dreams that break your heart, blow away the lies that leave you nothing but lost and broken-hearted” I think this is the best writing he ever did
My biggest wish is I could go back in time and follow Bruce around the country on one of these tours. Holy crap this looks amazing. Especially that moment in the middle with Clarence!
this song is amazing ... gonna be a twister to blow everything down that ain't got the faith to stand it's ground ! Off one of the greatest albums ever Darkness!!!
I was watching the Woodstock movie on TV just before I came here. Woodstock was way before Bruce & Band became popular. But they would have killed it there. As always.
Easily one of the best live versions of "The Promised Land" ever recorded! I attended the Springsteen concert one week prior (Oct. 27, 1980) in Oakland, CA.
Just think. This was also the era of the "big hair and hair spray" bands all thinking that they were "bad" and cool. Bruce and the E-Street band were all about the music. That is why they will always be remembered.
I have seen them play 3 times but at the time off this concert they were at their best...so easy, flawless and energetic..great song and great lyrics..
De las varias versiones de esta canción, esta interpretación me parece la mejor, la más apasionada. Todos los músicos están tocados por los dioses. Solo basta ver la emoción de Bruce y la rostro iluminado y la potencia de Clarence Clemons.

I’ve been a blue collar worker my whole life, working jobs I hate. And this song really spoke to me.
know how you feel.....keep fighting and when it gets too much, listen to this song.....worked for me over 40 yrs.....
If I could've seen Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band live at their peak, it would've altered my life radically.
He’s still at his peak. Incredible.
Its sung like an anthem, absolutely uplifting
Late night church....so much passion, so much love
Good description, it’s definitely an anthem!

I love when the girl jumps on stage at the end.
3:24 that seamless transition from harmonica to vocals, it's actually impressive.
The best live R&R performer ever....Writes, sings, plays and entertains at a combined level that has no equal.

The saxophone solo is absolutely epic.
Everytime i feel sad and down , i watch Bruce Springteen and make me feel good.
The Dancing in the Dark video is especially uplifting to me. Pure joy
Right On.
This song is like a friend who listens and encourages me when I’m having a rough spell.
That bit between Bruce and Clarence where they change solos is so awesome. You can see the love. RIP big man
That harmonica switch was pretty cool.

Dude you're so lucky
Which venue did you see him at in 1981?
This is what happens when all of the members of a band are simply vibing
At that time, I dreamed of growing up and marrying Bruce. Don’t tell my husband but I still dream that sometimes ; )
At that time, I wanted to be Bruce. Don't tell my wife.
Even for him, the energy is off the charts!
Saw him in LA in 81 and he played for 3 1/2 hours straight at FULL throttle. I almost came out of my skin!!!!!!!
I saw him in L.A. back then. Maybe the same concert? It was extraordinary.
I saw him at L.A. Sports Arena in 1980, Halloween night. I was 13. My big brother who was 18, took me. Changed my fucking life! We went again in '81 on the second leg of the same River tour.

Hmm. How can you compare your wife, the day you got married and single malt whisky on a winter evening in front of a log fire. They're both perfect.

Wow this man really put everything into his music
“Blow away the dreams that tear you apart, blow away the dreams that break your heart, blow away the lies that leave you nothing but lost and broken-hearted” I think this is the best writing he ever did
I don’t know what it is? But every song he’s written is a story I can recognize from my own memories, the greatest song writer of all time. No debate.
I LIVE AND BREATHE THIS SONG THANK YOU BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN I LOVE YOU WITH ALL MY HEART. USA. USA. USA.

Because he is a True Singer Song Writer. He wrote every song he has performed.
