And if you never saw a Springsteen show...it's 3-4 HOURS of this intensity. You have NO IDEA what a live show is unless you saw The Boss, back in the day.
I saw the Boss and the East Street Band in Ottawa Canada in the late 70s - the Born to Run tour. I was spoiled. Broken leg. I was dancing on it and waving the crutches in the air. I played the sax and met the God of the sax, Clarence Clemons. What an experience!
Took a girlfriend kicking and screaming to this tour, she insisted she hated Bruce and wouldn't enjoy it, she held out for two hours, arms folded and just foot tapping, by the end of the show she was wild and couldn't stop dancing, clapping and joining in with the sheer joy that only watching Bruce can give a person. We married a few years later and 40 years later, she's still the biggest Bruce fan in the world
This is the essence of Bruce fandom and the affinity we have for his music. But also, this is the essence of our love affairs with ANY band. Give them a chance and you’ll love them forever. This band just rocked faces off and knew how to have fun on stage while doing it.
Just imagine if you were 29, raised as a Fundamentalist Christian, and this was the first rock concert you had ever attended? It would literally blow your mind. Ha, that's what happened to my buddy Carol. In the mid-90s we were living together in a small town in out-state Missouri. In the late 70s and early 80s we were students at SLU Law School. The song in this video gives you a taste of what she saw. I had gotten tickets to this tour when he came to play in St. Louis. After what seemed like a never-ending time of multiple hours, and never sitting down, she exhaustedly turned to me and asked if all rock concerts were this great. I could only smile, shake my head, and say nope.
I took my girl in 92 we are from a very small town in the northern panhandle of WV and it’s what happened to her as well she now claims according to her license plate to be his #1 fan lol very cool story his effect on us is amazing
A great follow up would have been to take her to see the Clash. For my own story, I took my Vietnamese girlfriend to see her first rock concert when Bob Dylan came to Saigon - with Charlie Sexton going absolutely nuts on lead guitar. Afterward, she was speechless.
People know him as an icon NOW but back in 1980? He hadn't put out "Born in the USA" yet. He hadn't had a #1 song. He made his BONES on his live shows (like this one). 3+ HOURS. Just listen to the crowd! They are losing their minds! These guys RAN SHIT. There is a reason why he is considered one of the ALL TIME GREATS. This video gives you a GLIMPSE of WHY that is.
From Brucebase @ 8:40 or so in the clip: According to Dave Marsh, during "Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)" Bruce fell off a speaker stack: "Bruce made one of his patented leaps to the speakers at the side of the stage. But this time he missed. The crowd just kept on cheering, but back at the sound-board where Jackson (soundman Bruce) and I were sitting, the tension was thick. Bruce might do anything, but this was weird; the band was holding the chord, and the chords of 'Rosalita' are not meant to be held for five seconds, much less fifteen. It's a good long drop from the speakers, two feet high, to the floor, a good eight or nine feet away. All there was between Bruce and the hard concrete floor was the band's monitor mixing board, but as he tumbled down, roadie Bob Werner reached out and broke the fall. (He sprained his wrist in the process.) Neither the band nor the crowd could see any of this. The next thing any of us knew, the guitar appeared, tossed atop the speakers. Then a pair of hands and at last, Springsteen's head, with his silly-faced-little-boy grin. He shook his head, pulled himself the rest of the way up, and strapped on his guitar, went back into action as if nothing had occurred.
Excellent, I knew this story. I didn't realize this clip was that show! @ 8:47 There is an arm under Bruce. Look at Miami Steve, The Professor, possibly Gary, and most deftly Max saw this. Max refuses to take his eyes off the Boss. He made that mistake once he says.
Absolutely the greatest performer in the history of Rock n Roll! Saw him in concert up and down the east coast and in the Midwest, my favorite forever..Jimmy

Anyone who disagrees never saw them in their prime. If they did…they are lying. Have seen him a total of 14 times on 6 different tours in 5 different states. That’s awesome! As a fellow Missourian myself, I can’t wait until he comes back here on tour!

What if her last name was King. That would have been wild.

I was 15 and saw this tour, when you could still stand right up to stage, I was in front of the Big man....my life forever changed.

This is what I remember the 1st time I saw them in Pittsburgh, pa, November 1978 at the Stanley Theater. I was 16.
A very Big, Big Smile :) Those were days to remember!
AND ON THE 8TH DAY GOD CREATED BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN & THE E STREET BAND AND HOT DAMN!!!!!!!!!! IT WAS GREAT... AND THEN GOD SAID NOW I CAN REST
I had a t-shirt in the late 80’s that said
On the 8th day God created Bruce Springsteen.
Wore that thing religiously (forgive the pun)
darkness tour, The river tour, and the reunited tour of 1999 2000 were Bruce’s best tours!!!
Greatest live performer EVER!!
BITUSA too
2012-13 was pretty good too.
Rising Tour has some bangers too, Boston 2003, Barcelona, etc
Bruce & The E-Street Band have so much energy, so much irrepressible force. Incredible! Healing!
Bruce is the only boss l know about
In their prime there was never anyone that was even close to these guys.
They were the only ones in the conversation. Hands down the best performance band in the history of rock music. Anyone who disagrees never saw them in their prime. If they did…they are lying.

No, just imagine if this Man and this Band gave You at least 3 hours + of pure entertainment and fun !!! They did !!!!
Bruce has ‘over grown himself’ with this tour . So sad , so ‘became ‘ of thy self …
Until you've seen Springsteen live, you haven't seen a concert. You just haven't.
Best live band of all time.
Wow that’s awesome ! That’s as close to being at a Springsteen concert live as I have ever seen.
SPRINGSTEEN....Best LIVE SHOW ever !
true, my answer, was that a true and false question? cause easy to answer. lol ur too much,
Man, you just can't beat the boss, can ya ?? That band introduction it's just perfect, how can anyone top that ? Not for nothing he's the Boss
The look of concern from Roy and Steve at 8:50 , then Steve turns back to the band when he sees he's ok. Love it.

Wtf. I read people at that time thought Springsteen was on drugs while on stage. It was joy of rock and roll
How could anyone give this a thumbs down?

Yes
Spread out now, Rosie, doctor come cut loose her mama's reins
You know playin' blind man's bluff is a little baby's game
You pick up Little Dynamite, I'm gonna pick up Little Gun
And together we're gonna go out tonight and make that highway run
You don't have to call me lieutenant, Rosie, and I don't want to be your son
The only lover I'm ever gonna need's your soft sweet little girl's tongue
Ah, Rosie, you're the one
Dynamite's in the belfry, baby, playin' with the bats
Little Gun's downtown in front of Woolworth's, tryin' out his attitude on all the cats
Papa's on the corner, waitin' for the bus
Mama, she's home in the window, waitin' up for us
She'll be there in that chair when they wrestle her upstairs, 'cause you know we ain't gonna come
Ah, I ain't here on business, baby, I'm only here for fun
And Rosie, you're the one
Rosalita, jump a little lighter
Senorita, come sit by my fire
I just want to be your lover, ain't no liar
Rosalita, you're my stone desire
Jack the Rabbit and Weak Knees Willie, don't you know they're gonna be there
Ah, Sloppy Sue and Big Bones Billy, they'll be comin' up for air
We're gonna play some pool, skip some school, act real cool
Stay out all night, it's gonna feel all right
So Rosie, come out tonight, oh, baby, come out tonight
Windows are for cheaters, chimneys for the poor
Oh, closets are for hangers, winners use the door
So use it Rosie, that's what it's there for
And Rosalita, jump a little lighter
Senorita, come sit by my fire
I just want to be your lover, ain't no liar
Rosalita, you're my stone desire
All right
Now, I know your mama, she don't like me 'cause I play in a rock and roll band
And I know your daddy, he don't dig me, but he never did understand
Your papa lowered the boom, he locked you in your room
I'm coming to lend a hand
I'm coming to liberate you, confiscate you, I want to be your man
Someday we'll look back on this and it will all seem funny
But now you're sad, your mama's mad
And your papa says he knows that I don't (have any money)
Whoa, your papa says he knows (that I don't have any money)
Whoa, so your daddy says he knows I don't have (Papa says he knows that I don't have any money)
Well, tell him this is his last chance to get his daughter in a fine romance
Because the record company, Rosie, just gave me a big advance
And my tires were slashed and I almost crashed, but the Lord had mercy
And my machine, she's a dud, out stuck in the mud somewhere in the swamps of Jersey
Well, hold on tight, stay up all night, 'cause Rosie, I'm comin' on strong
By the time we meet the morning light, I will hold you in my arms
I know a pretty little place in Southern California down San Diego way
There's a little café where they play guitars all night and all day
You can hear 'em in the back room strummin'
So hold tight, baby, 'cause don't you know daddy's comin'
Oh, everybody, so!
Rosalita, jump a little lighter
Senorita, come sit by my fire
I just want to be your love, ain't no lie
Rosalita, you're my stone desire
Oh, yeah
(Oh, yeah, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
(Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey!)
