Him, and often Mark Knopfler, for me (the live versions of Knopfler's Speedway at Nazareth are probably the most visceral musical experience I've ever had). And of course, it's not just them, it's also the musicians they surround themselves with - that, too, is part of the magic, I think.

So true Bruce Springsteen is a musical genius. So is the first rock band Bruce saw in concert in Atlantic City new Jersey. THE WHO and Bruce wanted to be like them. PETE TOWNSHEND is a musical genius. I live at the Jersey shore just down the parkway from where Bruce lives cape may new Jersey. I heard a interview with Bruce talking about how seeing the who live. He had to be a rock star. Saw Bruce 4 times and the WHO 5 TIME'S. They are the greatest rock bands ever ever. Still all these years later no rock band comes close.

The song has nothing to do with 2 guys(not that there is anything wrong with it), he repeatedly describes terry as "she" and " little girl", bruce stated in his book its about a broken friendship. My absolute favorite live performance by any artist. No complicated lighting, back up singers, or choreography.
    5 men on stage.
    It's real.
5:30 to end kills me. Every single time.
Don't know why. It just does.

Been loving this song 40 some years. My eyes well up for simple beauty of it. E Street Band was so much fun in concert. Playing their hearts out on every song. Every one was on their feet, standing up on their chairs yelling Bruce! Bruce! Good times.

Saw them in Milwaukee, Wisconsin about a month and one-half earlier from this tour. Known as the bomb threat show. It was astounding. They were such a good, good band live. Nothing quite like it.

David Bowie saw Bruce and his band live one year earlier than this and said (decades later) that it was the best rock band he had ever seen.

@@juliemclagan Bowie also cover "Growing Up". He invited Bruce to the studio when he was recording in Philadelphia in 1974. Bruce hitch hiked and took a bus to get to the studio since he didn't own a car or a drivers license at the time.
