Thank you for showing me square knot. My mom showed me long ago but I forgot. When I tied it I remembered helping her. Brought me back for a second. Thank you
I'm a guy, never really understood knots in boy scouts. I just wanted to say that this helped me sort out a cross on some leather cord. (I replayed the square knot part until I managed to get it right.) Good video.
Thanks! I made a lanyard out of square knots, I didn't realize I could finish the ends with another square knot. This second one I just made looks much cleaner than the first one I did thanks to you.
Thank you for this. My favorite knot is the Brahma Granthi knot. I use it when making japamala, a type of prayer necklace or rosary. I thought your demonstration of the slipknots was super interesting. Thank you again.

OMG, one of the first knots I learned how to tie when I was a Boy Scout, was the Square Knot (also called a Reef Knot). The knot you are tying in the video is NOT a Square Knot, but a Granny Knot, which is very unsafe to use in an emergency because when you pull on the ends, it comes apart very easily. When a Square Knot is tied correctly, the knot actually looks like a square, with the ends on both sides either under or over the loop, thereby making the knot appearing symmetrical. Knowing how to tie a Square Knot correctly (right end over left, then left end over right) is very useful and makes for a strong knot!

Great tutorial - good to actually see & have the various knots explained & I really like how you set up the tutorials re: main screen for demonstration & your in bottom corner..really enjoy watching your tutorials as they’re so informative - thank you 😊
Thanks, Liz, we keep working on our recording techniques to improve things for you. We aren't recording in a studio, just a tiny rectangle on a table at the back of our warehouse, with two cameras blocking our view, so it's definitely challenging! But considering how many videos we upload and the fact that they're all free, we're doing a pretty good job! 😃
Good video on knot tying-thanks for showing the slider knot for use instead of a clasp-and, Allie, all I kept thinking about during this video was how many knots are tied accidently by the thread itself while I'm trying to bead a project. lol
Hi Sue, yes it's a common problem, but if you let the needle dangle, it will spin until it comes to rest, then it's safe to continue beading. We don't realise it, but as we pass the needle through so many beads, we are also rotating the needle in our fingers and each turn of the needle is twisting the thread little by little. Allowing it to dangle and unwind, relaxes the thread. If you're not using a thermally bonded braid like Wildfire or Fireline, you may find that running your thread through thread conditioner or beeswax, can help reduce the effects of twisting. It's a good beading practice to keep an eye on your thread as you pull, as soon as any loops start forming, detangle them before continuing to pull. Happy beading!

Interesting video. Thanks. I watch many of your videos, you are very good. Maybe you can help me in what I'm looking for. How to do an overhead knot with the 2 ends of the cord laying straight. Normally one is a bit crooked. I did see something on TH-cam once but cannot find it. Hope you can help.
I always look forward to your videos. They're very helpful. However, I don't believe your square knot is square. Both ends in one hand should either be above or below the loop and vice versa for the other hand. Just Google "square knot". All the pictures and tutorials show what I'm trying to say.
@@Potomacbeadco I believe what you made is referred to as a "Granny Knot" I agree with the previous comment that the square knot has two intertwined loops and both ends should parallel each other. Per Wikipedia: "The granny knot is a binding knot, used to secure a rope or line around an object. It is considered inferior to te reef knot (square knot), which it superficially resembles. "
This is a wonderful video. I do have a question for you: I have been making rosaries using fishing line and am usually finishing with a square knot plus one more "tie your shoe knot" for good measure. The knots are more visible than I would like them to be yet still seem to be threatening to come apart too easily. Which knot do you think would be most helpful to me?
Your square knot is a granny; right over left and carry thru then left over right and carry thru. the ends should be together....not like you have it...a granny knot.

What type of knot for a very large round cord for necklaces

Don't know why I'm wstching this. I'm not making jewelry. 😂
Edit: Great and informative video though!

Perhaps there are other ways of doing it, but this square knot is effective just the same. 😃

Hi Rosemarie, you could consider burning the fishing line together or using a beading cable like .024 beadalon wildfire.
@@Potomacbeadco thanks so much!
Thanks for the knotty tips ! 😂
😂 You're welcome!
The "square knot you show is a granny. Right over left then Left over right. Don't switch hands.
Umm.... That is not a square knot...
A square knot should have the lead and tail side my side with the other line looped behind them. Google it...
Yes, and square knot comes undone. Should do an extra turn and make it a surgeon's knot for real holding power.
Using nylon string
Спасибо, очень интересно)
That square knot is incorrect. The knot should not twist! Right over left, left under. Left over right, right under is a correct square knot.
Thank you for watching and for your feedback!
Your explanation of how to tie a square knot is correct, but the way you tie it creates a granny knot. Different knots for different applications.

Exactly. I even triple checked myself in Google and knot encyclopedia. The one in the video is definitely Not a Square Knot, and will open easily.
Oi! That was NOT a SQUARE KNOT!

Square knot made = GRANNY knot, unsecure !
You made the wrong knot. You did not make a square knot.
Thanks for (K)nothing.......Haha,LOL ;-)
Bibi is on fire today! 😂
You could use the noose knot technique. Lol
