This was really helpful. I got screwed up as you did. What helps is to go around with 1 piece and preserve your center. I also tried using a different block type (wood maybe) for the center pieces that helped a,lot with keeping my center. I always mess up the roofs too. :)
As long as you're still on the initial triangle stage it doesn't matter where the centre is. Only that you end up with equal length sides. You could leave the centre free and build around a tree if that floats your boat.
Most videos I was looking at was talking about using smaller central circles. Yours points out that a larger central circle will allow more squares. This is the tip I I was looking for. Thank you :)

A bit new to the game so I enjoyed seeing these mechanics in play. My thoughs on stability for the larger tower might be handled by making a "sandwich" of walls for the stairs. Place walls on both sides the of the staircase, with doorway arches where you want levels. You could even double the size of the staircase if you wish. As this may "waste" a bit of space, you can also place extra doorways to access those spaces and use them for storage or entry points to outdoor walkways or balconies. This makes the standard ancient tower effect and increases the internal stability of the enclosed areas. You may still need pillars but you could do slanted ones off the internal walls to help with that. Add platforms on the outside for observation and archers, and hey maybe a nice altar on top and boom, decent standard ancient fantasy tower of sorcery.
All I have to say about this is.... *YOU ROCK* If I had hair my floor would look like the end of the day at a barbershoppe with the stress building causes me in this game😣 I loved the building in Fallout4,but without mods its restrictive, where this is "Build where & what you want.." right outa the box(within reason). But it has a lot it doesnt tell you like the damn stability. Id be building for hours & then *BAM!* That 1 stupid piece that'll go ANYWHERE else, but where YOU want it. Wanted to do a circular tower with an exactly fitting circular wall arround it, this has helped me a lot the method is really great. The tipps on stability are a bit wanky but thankfully there are other tutorials who discuss this in depth. Adressing this here wouldve unnecessarily stretched the video anyway. Thx man
lord, my first attempt was a disaster. But I didn't know about needing the space to be totally flat. So my circle was 3/4 as it wouldn't let me lay any foundations on the high side of where I attempted. Thank goodness im not keeping this base, I'll be going to better farming areas off the main water inlet at the start once I'm 40ish and making steel/hardened steel. Good vid man, I would never have figured out the bigger circle, tower build.
I really wish you'd shown how to scale the stairs into the larger foundations. It's a great method, and it should be simple to figure out how to scale it, but those of us with awful spacial relations don't fare so well. ^^
Thanks man that was very good explanation of building round structures. I kept running into problems where my triangle and square foundations would not intersect correctly. I think if I stick to your pattern I shouldn't have any trouble.

Wish I had of found this video before I did my build, I did something similar to this, but I just kept expanding out with square foundations, result is the square foundations take up 1 block of the walls, and the triangles take up like 3(or 5, I forget now). I had basically done as you built the smallest tower, but then expanded it. Oh well, next time :) Good video, gonna check out your others.

That being ssid, I have figured out that putting a pillar on a triangle foundation, then putting a square ceiling on top of that (or vise versa) offsets the square from others.
How do I build stairs for a larger tower? I used the same method for the inner layer of my tower as your small, but did one extra square to make it a bit longer, so that means more wedges to fill the space, and not I can't build the stairs along the outside wall. I have a wheel of pain in the middle, so that kinda ruins doing the stairs in the middle, too.
How on earth did you get those triangular ceiling pieces?? I’m on PS4 but I cannot find them anywhere.. Had to destroy a lot of buildings because I could not finish them... :(
Hi thanks, my first 3 levels went fine, but the ceiling on the next 3 up having trouble with wedge to close the centre, I built pillars all the way up but the pillar is going on top of the pillar not covering over and following the pattern like I did with first 3 level.
How do I build a round tower on top of a flat square roof ? I built, pretty much a square box, but want a round tower extending up from the centre of the box (preferably from the roof), but the only way I can think of doing it is building a circle tower from the ground up... but wont be able to connect the circle tower to a square structure ?
I've done this once before about a year ago and had to trick the snapping. Not sure if it will work now since there have been so many changes to the building system. So you will have to test it. But basically you have one wall section of the round tower snap to one of the the floor or foundations pieces of the square structure. Then from that wall piece, you add a ceiling piece. Then from that ceiling piece you drop a pillar. The pillar will then give you stability to add more ceiling pieces to the round tower. Then from those ceiling pieces you drop walls to form the tower exterior. Keep adding more ceiling pieces and drop more pillars to add stability as needed to finish out the round tower. But like I said, this used to work but I haven't tried it recently.

Yeah at some point but not any time soon. I'm knee deep in grad school at the moment pursuing a PHD, so my play time is severely limited and making new videos even more so. Sorry.

Triangle pieces definitely stack currently, have a 12-layer circle base most of it is stacked :/ Also apart from stairs are there any other benefits to this method as opposed to the initial 6 triangles and then alternating squares to triangles every layer? This method seems to be bad if you decide to scale up in the future
This location was filmed around Muriela's Hope which is grid coordinates E7. But other areas around that grid coord also have very flat areas like parts of F7, F8, E8. You can also find large flat areas around F5, G5. Also a lot of areas north of the pirate ship like I7.
Near the end of the video around say 16:12 you have the wall providing support but how do you wall in the first stairs? I can't get my wall to snap to cover the stairs, I guess because the stairs are already taking up the space.

Sounds like it might be a stability problem. Can you check the adjacent piece with a repair hammer to make sure it has enough stability?

For future reference, if youre gonna use the admin panel anyways, just put all your points into encumberance. So you can just hold all that you need.
When I made this video in 2017, the perks for encumbrance were not yet implemented. Thanks though :)

They changed the building system again. You have to build ALL the walls 1st now. Then the stairs.
