    I own a D1000, but this limited edition with a smaller bezel fits perfectly in my wrist..the gold and black colour theme over the titanium case in matt makes it special in someway..some how reminds me of the brass navigational instruments and sunken ingots of a long forgotten era..!

      I easily got over 20 watches if you combine all the mechanical and Casios that I own, switching almost daily or every second day… tbh, I almost can’t be bothered to have to set the time and date properly each time for the mechanical ones since I’m may only be going to a dinner or something and want to wear it, I mean who are still wearing watches to tell the time and and other functions nowadays?😂 Let’s face it, we have been wearing watches like woman wear a bracelet for a long time now.
      It I wanted to wear a watch for its function or to tell the time and it’s legibility and so on, I’m pretty sure it should and would be the Apple Watch everyday all the way, which I have refrained from buying as I like to just wear my watch bracelets 🤭 Again, pretty much all the downs you mentioned are ups or ok with me. But that’s ok to each their own.

    The frog in the LCD display was on the original. This is a very faithful recreation even down to the strap and buckle. The legibility of the display is no more difficult to read than any other Frogman. I understand the lack of Multiband 6 and in my opinion it's not really needed on this model. It keeps all the advertising text on the watch similar to the original. The only thing I wish was done better is the engraving on the caseback. It needs to be deeper.

    I would say, that this is not regular frog (like last digital one GWF-D1000). It is heritage model, and it is Tough Solar, but no MB6, and no Sapphire Crystal. But this is reflected in the price. The cost is half of the GWF-D1000. So I would say, it is pretty fair here.

    The packaging is a plus, not a minus. I have troubles with handling all the unnecessary watch boxes for my hobby. I am glade if they offer easily recycleable watch boxes.
    Other than that, I think the legibility issue is the biggest deal breaker. How can a dive watch be not legible at the quick glance?

    • @CasualWatchReviews
      @CasualWatchReviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep 100%, I just reviewed the new Wu-Tang Gshock. The box is crap on this one, a nice watch roll or a travel pouch would have been better. When you see it it’s properly cheap feeling.

  • @gyrfalcon7332
    @gyrfalcon7332 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Using unbleached paper packaging is exactly where Casio should be going. I’m glad to see they’re on they’re way towards this more reasonable and responsible packaging. If manufacturers continue on making exceptions for people that would rather have another useless cheap painted tin or something that makes them feel better about the purchase, we’ll never get to point of accepting we must collectively ditch the idea of excess and environmentally less friendly packaging. I say less friendly because there’s nothing perfect.

    • @CasualWatchReviews
      @CasualWatchReviews  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm sorry but I'm honestly a bit shocked that you're that gullible to believe that Casio care at all about the environment here. This box is so blatantly a marketing stunt.
      We are not changing the world here are we. If you honestly cared that much about the environment then you wouldn't be buying this watch anyway. You would buy one watch that was versatile enough to wear all the time in the majority of situations.
      They still need to ship it in something and a tin can also be recycled. This was a gimmick to tie it to the environment and an excuse to get away with providing a cheap box. If they paired it with a small pelican box you could use that to store the watch forever. By providing a disposable box, most people will buy another watch box to store it in, so whats the point of that?

    • @andrewg2618
      @andrewg2618 ปีที่แล้ว

      Manufacturing more than one watch per person is the real environmental tragedy. The tin is a rounding error. People drink soda cans every day. How about a compromise where we stop painting tins? Everyone's happy, and you can melt down the metal cleanly in the end.

    I got mine when it came out here in UK last late Autumn, I've only just seen this review and I agree with every single word both the good and bad. It's not had anything like the wrist time I expected it to have as for most of the dark winter months it was completely unreadable.

      @CasualWatchReviews  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Ian, thanks for commenting! Yes I’m amazed at how many commenters fight me on the legibility or say it’s for collectors and I don’t understand it.
      I feel like this is some ‘emperors news clothes’ BS. It’s clearly harder to read than most gshocks, the one thing a dive watch absolutely has to be is legible and have water resistance obviously.
      Even the new 40th Gshock square I have, some TH-camrs absolutely gush over the legibility, its not winning any awards for being easy to read either.

      @@CasualWatchReviewsthe 40th G Square in recrystallized Gold is the most legible screen I’ve seen. It’s a positive display that also glows gold. But not the golden metal mesh screen of the 40th anniversary on the resin band which is a warmer darker gold with more shadow…I have both and love them. I find this model very attractive and might dismiss the legibility issue as that’s not actually paramount to me.

    When I see it on the market going for $300 I'm getting it. My GWF-1000 went from $600 to $400 then back up again. Frogmans end up sitting on the market and go up and down because the average G-Shock collector debates over the price. I don't go diving but I'm in all types of weather enviroments. The DW5600 or DW6900 for $40 will always be a quick standby but the Frogman with the dive mode is a great stopwatch. It's simple time started, current time, and counter is why you should have kept it IMHO.

      The backlight in this one, like I mentioned in the review, actually obscures the time. It would be even worse using it for actual diving, it’s practically illegible in normal light, never mind the Frog obscuring the time with the backlight a activated.

    I agree with you; this is a watch made for fans who wanted a trip down memory lane and for those who didn't buy the original 8230. I had never felt any strong pull to this model and only saw the beauty in the GWF-1000 and D1000 initially. Legibility looked a bit worse especially with the picture in the background, but I had the Japan Coastguard D1000 and telling the time at night was a bit hit and miss. I'm glad your video was honest and hope Casio will release better "nostalgic" models next time around- if they decide to. I wouldn't mind a titanium D1000 model and would pay handsomely for one. Heck, another GWF-1000 titanium in a different colourway would have me kicking the door down of my bank manager. Just, please no more 8200 models- they belong to the 1990's just like I belong to the 80's. Wait, that wasn't supposed to sound like that.

    I totally agree with your comments here. I absolutely love the Frogman "as you can see from my channel name", but i think that the design could have benefited with a little more input.
    Imho, it would have been better to have used a GWF-1000 series or even better, a GWF-D1000 series Frogman for this Anniversary theme. This way, additions like MB6 and Sapphire Crystal would have come as standard.
    I'm extremely selective when it comes to adding a Frogman to my collection and this one didn't make the cut for me. Also, the packaging is a very obvious cost save or should i say "Cheaping out" exercise, especially when compared to other Anniversary models eg the "Golden Tornado" Frogman. Now there's a box set to be proud of and even to display.

      His objective is as a dive watch (even if it is not used as such with diving computers nowadays) and as such is strange none had a depth sensor, specially when Casio in the 90s had the SNK-200 who had such function, until the GWF-D1000.

    Casio are going woke with their packaging and it's sad. For that price....I don't want ANY of that packaging to be recyclable. I want it to last forever!
