- Himanta Biswa Sarma is not just the Chief Minister of Assam but also the most influential political figure in the whole of North East India. Called controversy’s favourite child by many, he doesn’t shy away from speaking his mind. Switching sides to the BJP in 2015 has seen his popularity grow tenfold - whether it's at the Centre or amongst the masses in the Hindi heartland. In a candid conversation with Smita Prakash, the witty politician talks about his days in the Congress and the stark differences he witnessed between the cultures of the BJP and the Congress. In this conversation, he doesn’t leave a stone unturned to slam the Gandhi family and even ends up calling them “expired Drugs”. He takes on Rahul Gandhi over his “feudal mindset”, referring to him as someone “not fit for politics”. He sheds light on issues of his home state Assam varying from Bangladeshi immigrants to unauthorised Madrasas and how the BJP government has helped in integrating North Eastern states with the rest of India.

Being from Assam, since childhood, I had been dying and dreaming to see the first politician from Assam to answer in Hindi, to answer in English without fumbling with the first few words and go dead, to questions asked by any mainstream journalist. How the heart used to cringe to see politicians from Assam going white with confusion with even a 'yes/no' question asked in English or Hindi so many times...the frushtrating wait of decades got over today when I found this interview and such a rewarding one. When I find that the interview lasted for not a few seconds, or at most, a couple of minutes, but a full hour and three minutes where the CM, of Assam, HBS, spoke with such total command over his answers, with such clarity to not simple but an intricate volley of questions from an accomplished journalist, the heart has to flutter with joy...It is as if he compensated in that one hour with his tongue-in-cheek, humorous and yet supremely packed-up, probing dealings of the questions for all the linguistic inability and insufficiency in Hindi and English of his fellow politicians from Assam over decades. When interviews can get so humorous and unpretentious, yet so wise, they can redefine the whole art of interviewing. Salute...
Hemanta da is among the top five politicians in all of India and he is still so young.

I have meet Mr. Himanta Biswa Sarma in person in 2018 & 2019. He is a very humble person. I've known him since a child..when I was just 4 years. He is a very charismatic leader and always dedicated his life for Assam & it's people, Northeast and India. He is really a PM material. ❤️❤️❤️

I think Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma ji will be a pioneer in future development of North East. A guy who is very right person was in Congress for 22 years, but his ideology of freely expressing his ideas were trapped, but after 2015 he got freedom to express after entering in BJP. This change will be to greater extent in terms of development of North East. Now Assam is very well discussed as other states of India and we will soon see other states of North East also. It is essential that voters/public know what your guests want to say and how they want to word it. There were several occasions during this interview, where I was really intrigued by what Himanta Biswa Sarma was going to say, before you interrupted him and asked another question before he could finish his answer to the previous question.
