Love this tent mate, very different. Maybe we’re looking at the future of tents right here! Are you taking it out for a test yourself? ⛈ ⛅️ would love to see how it goes!
I am so grateful you included the length (and width) dimension of the inner and mentioned the walls. As viewers, it's tough to gauge useable space, especially if you're a taller person. So whenever I watch tent reviews, I have to ask. Of course I could Google. But there's a huge difference in floor dimensions and actual usability. Much appreciated, you're one of the few content creators that highlight this point
Another great video Andy, I have the xmid 2 solid, took a few pitches to get right and having to follow Durstons tutorial on TH-cam… It’s an absolute palace for one person.. lol maybe too big but always nice to have the extra space just incase. Personally even tho it’s lighter, I’m not keen on the look of the DCF tents and much prefer the heavier ones, if you can even call them heavy. 😁
Only 2 problems with this tent, 1 is the hight of the bathtub floor, it needs to be higher to not let sand fly into the tent in dry enviroments, and the other problem is that people use a groundsheet in order to protect this thin 15D floor, so if its raised to be 20D then people won't need a groundsheet which will make the tent weight more realistic than it already is (fantastic tent, Dan is a genius, I mean wow). All this will not add much weight overall and will likely turn this into the best UL tent in the world.
Been using Cuban fiber tents for years .. the down side is they are not durable long term people get confused about the strength comparing it to Steel …. Good to see uk TH-camrs now showing Cuban fiber gear that been out for over 10 years
I have a Durston X-mid 2 (double wall with inner mesh version), with 1,1 kg is a nice 2 person tent. The great downside is the comlexity of pitching on uneven ground. Unlike in US, we have to pitch it in so many different conditions. And it requires tons of space for setting the tent. The footprint is gigantic is larger than my 3 person Big Agnes Copper Spur 3 Platinum. So, for a single trips I am looking for something ligheter, something that would not have condensation problem (so ideally not a single wall), easy pitching and small footprint. Maybe the Terra Nova Laser Pulse or a Nemo Hornet Elite might be good. Any ideas from you, Andy?
Both the Pulse and Hornet are very small tents inside. In fairness, the X-Mid pro is very spacious for the weight (much more head space than the solid version too). It’s worth taking g a look at the Tarptents, they may suit your requirements.
@@BackpackingUK thx for your reply. Indeed, Pulse seems as a really tiny tent, almost as a bivy. X-Mid has a huge pitching area, so it does not fit my requirements. I do need something rather stealthy and that may be placed in a various tight places. Also the condensation problem is there with a single wall design. But suddenly, a new X-Dome1 dropped and it looks really promising. Have you already looked at it?
I so torn on this, ive a fly creek 2 and its about 1050g, and it doesn't seem worth getting the Mid-x 1 to save about 300g for a far smaller tent...but the Mid X Pro is mental light either 1 or 2 and as crazy as the price is i would get it however i have huge concerns with condensation esp around lochs and lakes in this country but the main one for me is how see through it is. It may be a woman thing lol but i dont think id feel safe ... I know that sounds crazy, i go everywhere on my own and ive never had any issues about feeling safe... But I think id feel totally exposed
I ve got rid of a LIGHTER two skinned tent than that because its same weight but with the poles included . This was the Terra Nova Laser Pulse 1 which is plain awful .Horrible to pitch , very very cramped and condensation is so bad and being made out of silnylon it sucks up half a kilo of water a night which takes a lot of drying out from the nylon even in hot weather .You have to add two poles to that weight of the X mid pro 1 , prob at least 300 gms .not that light if you include poles. I have bought the X mid pro 1 too but I don t like hiking poles but use Durstons much lighter Zflik poles which are around 190 gm a pair .these are around £60 shipped and I would recommend them over hiking poles
Great design. I'm not ready to spend on DCF for tent yet. Maybe for a rain kilt haha. I'll probably end up with this eventually but I'm enjoying freestanding tents again.
@@BackpackingUK Definitely. I used original double walled lanshan 1 and love the small pack size and weight. Then went to hammocks. It's nice to have options based on the conditions.
Having owned & sold a Z-packs dyneema tent I am very wary of using another - the condensation is awful especially in cooler weather even leaving the tent doors wide open. It has been so wet that the tent floor is literally awash. Yes, I saved weight with the tent but then gained a wet down sleeping bag. I’ve also yet to see a dyneema tent long enough for a tall person. However, these will work very well in warmer weather. A good review, thank you.
I’d definitely say it’s a warmer weather / summer tent. I’ve seen some people using Z-Packs tents during winter. I would never put that on my socials in case someone had to call the MRT or worse!
Quick question 🙋♂️ I'm looking for the best waterproof 4 season 2 man tent that is a beast in rain winds...been looking at helm 2 cloud peak 2,Panacea,tindhiem pioneer etc
The Pioneer 2 is a good deal at £399 inc footprint. If you can’t go that far, the Helm 2 is really good too. The Panacea is closer to 3kg and I guess the new MSR is too? I love the Cloud Peak 2 and it’s an absolute bargain at just over £150! Just make sure you strap it down in the wind!

I’ll do a full test review of mine soon 👍

The lightest tent i own is Plex Solo Tent 395 g
That's not the entire tent, right? How does it weigh if you include poles and all the stakes?
Quality video, fantastic highend packpacking tent, have you done a video on any two man lightweight backpacking tent? Are there any you can recommend.
The tarp tent is a great company love my mine
NatureHike Cloud Trace (Ultralight Backpacking Double Wall Ten)
best tent I've used so far

100% agree that the bathtub floor needs to be thicker and higher!

what do you mean? I have heard they get random holes in them when they get older?

Is there any noticeable shrinking after 1 year of usage?
Another quality production. Thankyou buddy. Very much appreciated.
Cheers 👍
Can you be seen inside the tent from outside? Looks quite transparent! Thanks for the review 😊
You can a bit. If you had a lantern in there at night you’d been seen a mile away. Not a tent for the stealth campers! 🥷
What height did you have the poles set at please bud?
I think it was 115cm. It’s in the video 👍
@@BackpackingUK must have missed that but then. Mine is due tomorrow after paying my £168 ransom demand from Royal Mail 🤦🏻♂️

I do get that, as there’s no doubt it’d be a bit of a beacon with a lantern in there. Great photos for Instagram though 😂
Durston vs Stratospire comparison please?
Haven’t reviewed the Strato yet, could it be my favourite trekking pole tent?!?!

Freestanding tents will always be my preferred choice! Still, it’s nice to have a trekking pole tent for the long days / trips!

Love the weight but would be wary of a single skin DCF tent in UK due to condensation.... X-mid solid might be a better option
Hence why I went for the 1P Solid!
I need that sort of weight 😊👊⭐️
Do you have a link to the solid Durston?
I think it’s in the description 👍
Durston site says tent weights 465g and 544g all in with 6 stakes and sacks. Zpacks Plex Solo is the lightest at 395g all but stakes.
I know Weekend Hiker off Instagram and he’s got a Z-Packs (he did a summit camp in the freezing cold in it 🥶)
My Jetboil Micromo with small gas canister weighs more than that! 😁
😂😂😂
