Receive Cleans as Low as Possible?

- Thank you to All Things Gym for the competition video footage so I can demonstrate lifters other than my own doing what I’m talking about and don’t have to then respond to comments about it not being what “the best” lifters do.

Very important to know… thank you.
I’m starting to lift after being away for 30 years and needed a refresher
I thought I was doing something wrong by receiving high all along-I trained myself to be able to sneak just under the bar in a full clean at the expense of my posture in the catch because I thought it was wrong to catch high. Thank you for the video, Greg.
One of your best videos in my opinion, really good 👏
Love your videos! Thanks for putting out excellent content!
Great advice. Thank U!❤
thank you, this was really helpful.
I needed to hear this
Brilliant! 👌
Still struggling with this after a year of trying. Struggle Bus!
I’m a little worried that intentionally reducing the amount of force I exert on the bar to receive lighter weights at a reasonable receiving height will somehow ingrain an incomplete or unaggressive extension. I’m early on enough to where my working sets are decently below what I can power ( as I learn how to quickly get under the bar/improve mobility in bottom position/etc rather than simply powering it). Is this something to worry about now or is it something that is corrected by simply including heavier pulls (and in my case power cleans emphasizing an aggressive extension)?
For context
My best power clean: 102 kg
My best clean: 90 kg
Working sets of cleans are in the ballpark of 83-85 kg for triples, and I have to actively reduce the amount of force so I can catch it at a reasonable height to be able to descend with it.
great question! if you're still completing extension fully but with less force on the lighter weights, then you're still practising good technique and that will carry over to heavier weights. when it comes to doing it forcefully i would'nt worry too much about 'losing it' since we practice extending forcefully during pulls, squats, jumps and other movements a lot, so it's not something you should be losing. also, getting under the bar is more important and also more difficult of a skill to learn than extending strongly, so really focus on doing that properly. by comparison, extending strongly is easy to learn and gains strength in. happy lifting!
Does this concept apply to the snatch as well?
Yes although generally snatches will be received lower than cleans at a given %. See this - th-cam.com/video/8JVAngCmYRU/w-d-xo.html
