    Thanks for the video. Just picked up another XJ, this one is a 2001 and has that problem. You video gives me insight before I get started.

    Thanks for this. I actually have an issue with netting drawn into the lock, and I've been putting it off for years, but this video is perfect for showing everything I need.

    I've been fighting this rear latch problem for at least 10-years. All kinds of crazy solutions that didn't last. Got tired while trying to drill out the rivet that holds the root problem, the spring steel clip the doesn't hold the threaded rod.
    In frustration, I got on Amazon searched for Cherokee rear latch, low and behold, didn't find one but two replacement latch assemblies. My key was a different way to hold the threaded rod.
    Be another week before it arrives but the holder is at least different.
    At $17 a bargain if it solves the damn rear latch.

    Just did the exact repair thanks man! Worked great. I used black rtv instead of the lock tite

    hi the rod is treaded so just sandwich the plastic piece with nuts

    Mine isn't very bad at all but i need to take 20 minutes at do this just so it doesn't get worse. I have the fasteners already.
