Thanks so much! I'm a pattern maker myself, and at times I forget how to do the actual sewing part 😅 loved the comment about not backstitching the darts, and the bit about gathering the sleeves! 🥰
You're amazing, I'm love with your videos. I started learning how to sew by machine in 2020 and my horizons are more open to patterns and projetos because of you. Before, I just sew simple things because i made all by hand. Now, with your videos, I feel more confident to explore more. And, of course, to take better care of my projets because your videos are so detailed. I love it
I would love to see the sleeveless one with a peter pan collar blouse with sleeves under it. Do you wear it in another of your videos? These are so sweet and exactly my style but can't find to purchase. You make it look so easy! Thanks for all the work you put into your videos and for teaching us!!
This was a really great pattern, and I completed it without any major problems! I am a verrryyyyy beginner, never made a peice of clothing before. I will say, the instructions were a little bare and maybe could use a little more explanation for the super super beginners. But all in all, it was a great pattern! I love my new dress!
I bought my pattern today and am SO excited to get started! So much hard work has gone into these patterns and I am so grateful. I'm still a beginner so this video guide is going to be super helpful for me too. Take care Janelle, love your work xx
I just finished the dress based on the paper pattern and it turned out exactly to way I wanted too 😊 Your instructions in the booklet were clear. I am so proud of me 😀 as I learned to set an invisible zipper in the process. So thank you! It is indeed more than a dress with pockets ❤️ Looking forward to more patterns 😍
Absolutely love this style dress I have a top from a shop! Really like all the fabrics you chosen for dress..... and cute as a top! Wow that’s a little high on price!
This dress looks SO GOOD! I am in love with the flowery one you made in the video, I will for sure make one with this pattern when I have my current projects finished :D Well done, you are a queen!
Can you do one for basic new sewers? Using only a basic sewing machine and could you explain the darting and the thing you do with the sleeves and then take out. I don’t know if that’s possible but thought I’d ask. Great videos! I’m new to sewing and trying to teach myself. ❤
Asalama alaikum mam I am your new subscribers iam from Pakistan and want to start my own boutique plz can you guide me your videos are very useful but very fast plz help lwill very tanks ful
Hi there - loving this easy to follow pattern and video. I'm having some difficulty with the skirt. I have seemed to created a skirt which is too small. When I look back at the pattern it says to cut the front on the fold and 2 pieces for the back? I'm so confused and can't work it out from the video. Please could someone help me to understand the skirt pieces and how they fit together!
Hi Rosie! Thanks for purchasing my Rosa pattern 🧡 Yes that’s correct, the skirt front template should be cut out on the fold of your fabric, and then the same rectangle template (the same as the skirt front) should be cut not on the fold but instead in two pieces of fabric for the skirt back. This is because the skirt back has a centre seam where the zip will go. If you are still confused, send me an email at hello@roseryapparel.com and I’ll send you a diagram of what I mean!
Hey..gud mrng😊....i really like ur wrk..nd way u speak nd explain everything...i also love sewing😊😊😊...u r an insipiration for me...may god bless u...😍
Hello lovely I think your channel is very informative, thank you. I am a very very :) sewing beginner, I have purchased your Rosa pattern today and will give it a crack...elegant channel..x
Bought the pattern this week and excited to try!! Sizing is always so different from pattern-to-pattern so I hope I can learn from my first try what adjustments I may need to make if my sizing is off :p
So lovely to stumble across your channel! You are definitely an inspiration and a fellow Aussie is always nice to see. Going to definitely purchase your patterns and I even want to purchase the paper form just for the beautiful esthetic of it to keep forever. Can’t wait to see what else you create in the future!
I absolutely love this dress and would love to buy it but I need just one size bigger. I’m an absolute beginner so wouldn’t feel confident to alter it yet.
Can armpit gussets be added? That way you can raise your arms without the whole dress goign up. This looks just like an old vintage schooldress i have. I love it so much!
I love this tutorial, it's been very helpful to look at this before I start sewing. Apologies if I have not understood the instructions well, but please someone correct me if I got it wrong - the 1cm seam allowance is included in the pattern so I should cut out the pattern size that fits me on the fabric (i.e. no need to cut out an extra 1cm around the pattern on the fabric)? This is the first ever dress I'll be sewing.
You make the most beautiful projects! I love your black dress with the flowers! It's lovely! You are quite the seamstress. I used to so close for our children all the time but haven't many years. Our daughter bought me a sewing machine for Christmas. I had three sewing machines however I lost them in a house fire. Everybody was fine but I did miss my sewing machine. So she brought me a brother sewing machine. I'm just getting used to it again and I hope that I can adjust your patterns because I am bigger than your pattern. It is just so difficult to find beautiful fabric and if you do the price is extremely high. So I hope to follow your links for fabric and see how we do. I have a question do you only wear dresses because looking at your wardrobe it looks like you only wear dresses?
Hi!! I absolutely love this pattern and have made it twice now. Just with the sleeves though, how do you know which sleeve is left or right? I’m used to seeing two notches for the back and notch for the front on the sleeve piece with corresponding notches on the armhole of the bodice front and bodice back so you can tell which sleeve is which. Is there a trick you use to be able to tell?? Thank you so much! Absolutely love this pattern.
Would you like to tell what type of sewing machine do you use ? Everytime you making or sewing oh it's easy i can do that too meanwhile in the practice oh no i'm a mess 😅 but one thing for sure i got a new info or tricks after watching your videos thank you this is very helpful
may be a silly question but why do we sew with a sewing machine and then use an overlocker? could you just use an overlocker instead? love my pattern so much thanks for sharing
Hey Janelle, I’ve noticed you’re not cutting on the bias, is that because of the stretch in the fabric or is it something you don’t have to worry about with any fabric?
With every pattern I have sewn with darts does not work out. I always end up taking the darts out just so can be able to wear it. Is it something I’m doing? Am I not taking correct measurements? I’m at a loss of what to do
Hi Janelle, I am so excited to purchase this pattern and have a project to complete after I finish my final uni assignments. I am just wondering if it is possible to modify this pattern to have a more scooped neckline? I am not the best seamstress but have made a few items of clothing over time. Do you think it would be easy enough to use the neckline off of a similar dress? Thanks so much
Hi. Rosary. I really like your work. Could you please show how to make the classic brown and white polka dot dress that Julia Roberts wore in Pretty Woman. I am obsessed with that dress but i am not very sure of how to make it.
Hi! Can’t wait to try this pattern. I love the look of this dress, and the casual oversized hang of it. When choosing what size to do: Did you go up a size to give it that over size affect, or is that the look when you design true to size? Hopefully that makes sense!
Great question! I would go up a size if you like an oversized look 😊 I went a size larger then I should’ve but loved the look so it was a happy accident 😄
Hi! I am currently trying to make this dress and I’m cutting out the pieces, and I can’t wrap my brain around the skirt piece. I’m not sure how to cut it out. From what the pattern looks like. The skirt of the dress is 3 pieces? I’m very confused
Hi there! Yes, the skirt is made up of three pieces. For the front, cut the template out on the fold, and for the back cut two of the template (not on the fold). The two back pieces are joined together when the zip is attached 😊
Hi. I'm looking to get this pattern, but a couple of questions. It looks like there is a very large seam allowance, especially a few places. Does it specify in the instructions how much to use where, as it's different in different places? If not, how can I go about picking the right size to where I can sew on the line and cut my own seam allowance? Looks like a great pattern, and I really want to try it.
@@RoseryApparel thank you for the response. Good to know. It just looked like in the video that it was 2-3cm some places and 1 cm other places. And I'm not talking about top stitches. I'll take another look. Thanks again.
Love it! I cant wait for more patterns. One question: do i have to hand stitch the facing? I rather use a sewing machine and i am not good at hand stitching.
Totally new to sewing and would like to try this pattern. I was just wondering why the second dress had a lining and the first one didn’t? Was this just preference, or because the second one was a light colored fabric? Just wondering if I missed something. Love the tutorials!❤️
Hello Janelle, I have looked about and I can't find if your seam allowance is 1/2" or 1 cm? I am about to start the Rosa pattern. Does anyone know offhand? Thanks!
Hi Janelle! I purchased the digital pattern for this dress, but I think the first time I printed the pattern my computer scaled it down. Should I be printing this scaled at 100%?
Hi! Thanks for purchasing my pattern 🧡 I always get mine printed at my local copy shop, but yes I think it’s meant to be printed at 100%. Are you printing on A4 sizes paper?
Yes, I’m printing A4 at home! I did it again at 100 and it looks right ☺️ I can’t wait to make this dress, I’m sure I will use this pattern over and over!
Hi Janelle, quick question! Is it ok to use a cotton jersey fabric to make this dress? (10% stretch- I have some handy :) )? Is there anything you would change then, e.g. using a zigzag stitch throughout? Thank you!!
To be honest I’m not that experienced with jersey fabrics, but it should be fine! If it’s stretchy enough you may not need to put a zip in, and if you use a stretch needle it should work fine! 😊
I had 2 meters of fabric for mine and a lot left over, so I’d say you should be on the safe side with 1,5m (doubled) for the sleeved version, maybe even a little less :)
Thank you! There’s a ‘size guide/how much fabric you need’ image in the pattern listings but usually 2-2.5 metres is enough and yes quilting cotton would be perfect! 😍
Thank you for doing this video. I appreciate how long they must take. Does it matter if you use jersey needles in your overlocker to sew woven fabrics? As that's what's in mine. If I have to change them can I use sewing machine needles or should I use special overlocker ones? Good luck with your pattern. It looks great. X
I ordered this pattern today. However I want to buy the fabric tomorrow as Spotlight has a 4 day sale right now. Can someone who already has this pattern tell me how much fabric I need to buy for the size 6 longer version? Many thanks.
Thanks so much for purchasing my pattern! You will need 2.5 metres for the size 6 longer versions 😊 I will have to go check out the Spotlight sale for myself this weekend!
Hi Janelle! I just purchased this pattern and I'm excited to use it! My question I have is; what fabrics do you recommend to use for this pattern? I can't find that information anywhere on the pattern or instructions. Thankyou!
Yay thank you so much for purchasing it! You can use any fabric really! Cottons work well, but you could also use stretch fabric and if it’s stretchy enough you could skip the zip part 😊
I have never sewn before but with all of this quarantine stuff going on and working in a retail store, I would really love to learn!! I’m 17 so definitely have time! I was planning on buying the singer talent for my first machine. Is there any supplies I absolutely need so I don’t forget anything?
Once you have a machine, you can do a lot with fabric, thread, pins and a scissors! If you have an iron at home to do the pressing with, that's great, and will help your seams and hems turn out more neatly. :) And then of course whatever notions (buttons, zippers, elastic, etc.) your particular pattern calls for. There are so many super easy projects that you can do to get started, and lots of youtube tutorials. Happy sewing!!
Brooke Carmichael Quarantine is the perfect time to sew, it’s so addicting! You definitely need a seam ripper, it’ll become your best friend 😂 it might come with your sewing machine. Also: some high quality fabric scissors, pins and clips (they really come in handy with delicate fabrics, in general I prefer them to pins) and some fabric marker pens (a light and a dark chalk pencil will do). Also, if you really feel like sewing is your thing, get a rotary cutter and cutting mat! It’ll change your life, trust me! So much faster and accurate! Have fun!
@Brooke Carmichael: As someone who has seen for over 50 years, I just did research on the Singer Talent machine and I wouldn’t recommend it, even with good reviews. Singer has a drop in bobbin and many times it is very frustrating because it tangles up while it is winding the thread on. I learned on one of these. Janelle uses a Brother and I have heard good things about Brother machines and they are inexpensive. I love my old Bernina. I have a post about it on my website. Have fun sewing!!
Nope, the seam allowance is included in the pattern already! Did you have a digital copy? Was the pattern printed to the correct scale? (You can check by measuring the scale line on each template piece) 😊
Hi Janelle! I may have missed it in the video (really sorry if I did) but is it possible to make the skirt part of the dress longer? such that it reaches midcalf-ish? if so, what changes must be done to the pattern? Thank you!
Thanks so much! I'm a pattern maker myself, and at times I forget how to do the actual sewing part 😅 loved the comment about not backstitching the darts, and the bit about gathering the sleeves! 🥰

Lined bodice attached to unlined sleeves?

Would this pattern work if I wanted to do a side zip instead of a back zipper

Hi, what length zip should I use for the small pattern? Thanks
Hey Janelle, I’ve noticed you’re not cutting on the bias, is that because of the stretch in the fabric or is it something you don’t have to worry about with any fabric?

What did you use for the lining in the second dress? I've checked all the instructions - I might be missing it. I absolutely LOVE your pattern!

Hi. I'm looking to get this pattern, but a couple of questions. It looks like there is a very large seam allowance, especially a few places. If not, how can I go about picking the right size to where I can sew on the line and cut my own seam allowance? Looks like a great pattern, and I really want to try it.
Yes it specifies the seam allowance in the instructions 😊 It’s the same seam allowance throughout, except the gathering part on the skirt and sleeve.
@@RoseryApparel thank you for the response. Good to know. It just looked like in the video that it was 2-3cm some places and 1 cm other places. And I'm not talking about top stitches. I'll take another look. Thanks again.

Very nice 👌👌
Can I ask what machine do you use?
I'm really interested in buying pattern but need size 18 or 20. Can you make a pattern that size?
I have this pattern available up to size 24 😊 You can find it here: www.roseryapparel.com/rosa
Thanks so much!!
Love it! I cant wait for more patterns. One question: do i have to hand stitch the facing? I rather use a sewing machine and i am not good at hand stitching.
You don’t have to hand stitch if you don’t want, sometimes I don’t stitch it down at all and just tuck it in when I wear it 😊

Totally new to sewing and would like to try this pattern. I was just wondering why the second dress had a lining and the first one didn’t? Was this just preference, or because the second one was a light colored fabric? Just wondering if I missed something. Love the tutorials!❤️
The first one uses a facing instead because of the sleeves. It's easier than trying to fully line a sleeved dress. You can do it but it takes longer
Hello Janelle, I have looked about and I can't find if your seam allowance is 1/2" or 1 cm? I am about to start the Rosa pattern. Does anyone know offhand? Thanks!
Hi! Thanks for purchasing my pattern 😄 The seam allowance is 1cm.
Beautiful dress. What material was used for the dress and the lining?
They were both 100% cotton fabric 😊
I bought the pattern.
But What about a seam alloawnce?!

@Sarah Saggiante Quilting cotton will work beautifully!
Thank you! There’s a ‘size guide/how much fabric you need’ image in the pattern listings but usually 2-2.5 metres is enough and yes quilting cotton would be perfect! 😍

@@RoseryApparel Thanks Janelle. I'm off to Spotlight soon!
What fabric types
can i use to make the dress ?
I’ve used a cotton fabric here but you can use whatever you like 😊
Awesome thank you
Hi what sizes are the patterns to print? A4 or A3? Thanks
The digital pattern comes with an A4 titled document and an A0 document 😊
Do you need to add seam allowance? It ran really really small for me!
Nope, the seam allowance is included in the pattern already! Did you have a digital copy? Was the pattern printed to the correct scale? (You can check by measuring the scale line on each template piece) 😊
@@RoseryApparel yeah I just checked! I’m a uk/aus size 12 and I’ve added a half inch to the 14 and it’s still coming sup super small! 😩
Hi Janelle! I may have missed it in the video (really sorry if I did) but is it possible to make the skirt part of the dress longer? such that it reaches midcalf-ish? if so, what changes must be done to the pattern? Thank you!
Yes you can! There are two skirt lengths available, and one is a cute midi length 😄
Amazing! How many yards of fabric will I need for each dress?
About 2-3 metres depending on the style and size. You can find this information on my website 😊
