I never thought of this in all honesty, It makes perfect sense and you could replace the nut with a free standing nut for easier removal and easier maintenance.
My main goal was to avoid cutting a slot/hole in the frame like some guys usually do. Structural integrity is extremely important and I didn't want to compromise the frame. Nobody cares about the floor when you can't see it, and there's a decent buffer in the frame right there anyway going to the leaf spring eyelet. So this worked out.
I have been looking to do this on my xj, pulled the bench out and lifted my carpet but my angle grinder is just a bit big to get in there, it’s a real akward angle. How did you get a cut so close to the bench support? Perhaps a different tool maybe?
dude you spent like a minute explaining that to me in person and didn't say UMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM once :fangers: then you upload this? You better be buying me breakfast next time! :flipoff2:

Good vid - please replace the broken wheel stud.
If you only cut 3 sides of the square holes, then fold it up. Do your work and fold it back down. You can then weld it back in.
What size socket did you use for the nut?
I can't remember now but it may have been a 19mm or close to it.
Idk if you'll see this and reply soon. But I'm struggling, I'm trying to do this method. How did you cut the circles out more for a socket to fit
I used a dremmel tool with a little bit that grinds/sands, and just sanded the edge down enough to fit a socket, and then eventually the washers.

I used a hack saw and one of those Dremel tools with an oscillating blade. Made quick and easy work of the floor metal.
Thanks, I’ll look into it!
smart idea now fill the whole area with fluid film
