    I would like to share a story as well. My motorcycle broke down in a large forest preserve on a 95 degree day. I had to literally push my bike down the road because I was afraid someone would steal it on such a secluded road. After pushing it for a long time. A Illinois state trooper came driving towards me, he slowed down a little and smiled at me and keep on driving. Our tax dollars hard at work? Many people say support the blue… but do they support US? Two teenage kids ended up stopping and loaded my bike in their van and drove me all the way home and would not except a penny from me. I think we all need help from others in life from time to time. It keeps us humble to know God uses other people to come to our aid when we need help the most.

      That's pretty lame of that cop. I bet it was relief to finally make it home though.

      @@SaddleTrampTV Yes Tramp, it was a great relief to get my motorcycle back home and hydrate my body it was brutal pushing that bike in the heat. Sadly, later that year since I didn’t have a garage at that time I was working on my bike in the basement. I had a extension light under the motor and was leaning over the fuel tank pulling off the fuel line, some of the fuel dripped down on the extension light bulb and fire shot up to the fuel tank which exploded the fuel tank with me leaning over it! It blew me to the floor on my back and I caught fire.
      And the rafters in basement where on fire along with two snow tires I had stored in he basement. Luckily, my father happened to be in the backyard and heard the explosion and came running in to drag me out while all my clothes where burning.
      I was wearing those comfortable straw top shoes and the fire burned off the straw tops of my shoes and the rubber souls where left standing next to the motorcycle, just crazy!

All mine are from the 1990's. I had the same type of tower pick me up this summer. Huge truck for my sporty. He was in a MC accident. I have 3 old bikes. My wife told me when I bought the 3rd bike that I need to learn to work on them. The last one I got should be the most reliable. It is a 2007 Heritage Softail. It has only 6,000 miles on it. I am the second owner. The original owner is my Brother-in-law. He never rode it hard. Neither will I. She is a great bike. I enjoy just riding it down the road enjoying the ride. If I feel like going out and riding hard I will take the 2003 VTX1800R.
    I have these old bikes because all three bikes added together cost me $10,500.
    I can’t buy 1 new bike that I like for that kind of money.
    I wish you luck with your bike. You have some nice bikes.

    Geico has unlimited Towing for $20 over the cost of a full coverage policy for a motorcycle. I have used it inumerable times with my collection of vintage bikes. The ignition switch on my Sportster crops out every 7 years I have to put a new one on. A mechanic told me to not have a bunch of keys and stuff hanging on your ignition switch because the jostling and banging from all that stuff bouncing around will cause the connections to go bad. All the bikes in the old days from the electrical system you can forgive a bike a lot of things if it didn't make you push it home. Good luck brother.

    Reminds of a time back in 2013 , i broke down on my 1987 Goldwing with my girl in Washington after i got bad fuel at a mountain gas station (water in the gas) - id managed to get it to the back of another gas station (miles away) next to the air/water machine - some sketchy/gang looking dude noticed us and came to the back on his Harley , he turned out to be super cool , rode back to his place and got his mechanic brother , came back drained/syphoned the fuel , back to the house to get a filter - still wasnt running right but better , so they were escorting us to a mechanic shop and probable hotel for the night and all of a sudden the bike ran great , all bad fuel had cleared out - We were heading for the coast - they said if we had any more problems , give them a call and they'd come and help us - GREAT DUDES - a special moment of a 65 day 12,600 mile trip around the US

    Wow!! John Donne said it well. “No man is an island,
    Entire of itself;
    Every man is a piece of the continent,
    A part of the main.
    If a clod be washed away by the sea,
    Europe is the less,
    As well as if a promontory were:
    As well as if a manor of thy friend's
    Or of thine own were.
    Any man's death diminishes me,
    Because I am involved in mankind.
    And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
    It tolls for thee“
    I am enjoying my reconnect with your channel.

    I had the voltmeter swing all the way to 16 or more, on my 08, It was the regulator, I had already put cycle electric stator, and Was using Napa battery ( made by the Harley supplier) when I did the stator in 19' I also paid 200+ for Harley regulator, and It was already toast. I think I saw those brass taps on your battery, I overtightened the positive one time, and the battery was junk. Any way Twin power reg, and Napa exact fit battery, Starts great.Volt meter sits about one mark past 14, next problem on the list, is watch out for old rear brake switch, sticking on, Volts under 13, and fuse doesn't blow while the wires burn up 😎

    Goes to show there is still good ppl on this earth.
    This world is falling away from helping. They would rather beat you down than help.

    Yup bad regulator. It's the only time I've ever got stuck on a trip.. mine fried the battery to the point where it was pumping out fumes 😀 Also wrecked my electronic speedo. I had no speedo for 5 years as I was too mean to buy another genuine one and there were no aftermarket ones at the time. I only sorted it in 2020 during a lockdown rebuild.
    Congrats on the house buddy.

    Don’t know how to tell u, but I have put on many miles, mostly evo’s, I have only ever had one problem and it was a leaky rocker box on 1989 eg, knock on wood, happy your home safe, got to love the good people of the biker community

    Sorry to hear about the bike. Glad you are ok. I may be too late but check if your bike falls under the ignition switch relay recall. My 94 did and the dealer fixed for free a couple of weeks ago. 33000 bikes were affected from 1994 to 1998. Mine is a 94 built in 93. Good luck and praying for you and your lovely bride always.

    I've always said, "Scooter people is good people" and your experience shows just that.
    I realize I'm closing the gate after the horses are out but whenever I am traveling more than 50 miles from home, I always take a few small things with me that can leave me on the shoulder should they crap out. One of which is a voltage regulator. I also carry a couple of Heim joints for the shift linkage, a jiffy stand spring and an ignition switch.

    Hey keep an eye on your ignition system, it will be next. My 87 Softail the alternator went out in the Spring and the ignition system in the Fall , both were about 26-28 years old.

    This is why I have three old bikes. At any given point two of them are broke down and waiting for parts. Although the furthest I’d been stranded is 70-80 miles from home it’s bound to happen out of state at some point. It’s all apart of the adventure.
    Safe riding and enjoy the unplanned adventures.

    It's really good that you guys have a good network of friends to come to your aid in your time of need. As to the point of new vs old iron and the ability to work on your own stuff vs the idea that new means not needing to work on it, the truth is that rectifier problem could have happened with a brand new scooter. That technology is pretty much set with the advent of alternators in general, give or take the time to work the bugs out of the idea of turning AC to DC. The difference is in what gets fried. You got a cooked battery. I can't help but wonder what all would have gotten fried on an ECM equipped bike with all the electronic bells and whistles. My guess is you get off mighty cheap on the old iron in situations like you have. There's no telling what all you would have had to replace if your bike was new, if you could even get her going outside of a dealership. Long live old iron!

      Yeah, I'm wondering if it played hell on my ignition too. It has an Ultima that I installed about a year ago. We'll see.

      @@SaddleTrampTV If you replaced a working ignition with the Ultima and still have it, you could just keep the old one in your bags for just in case situations. Hopefully, if it still works, then it will keep working. I don't know about on bikes, but some hot rod ignitions perform even better with high voltages. There was a trend for a while that had the cars running off 12 volts and the specialized ignitions running off 18 volts. You can run up to .0075 plug gaps! Maybe your Ultima enjoyed that extra juice and will keep on ticking. Knowing that at least some ignition systems like high voltage could maybe offer up a little piece of mind after having your confidence in your electrics shaken like you did. It sure is nice being able to work on your stuff, but it really sucks to HAVE TO work on your stuff, right? :) I'm just glad you guys made it back safe and got to have as much fun as the worry would allow you to have. And I bet you won't be forgetting your pistol any time soon, either! I felt for you when you said that you had accidentally let it home. That feeling of helplessness out away from home is no bueno
