  • Finally Done it!! Drove a round trip of over 1300 miles to get this motorcycle / Bought a 1998 Harley Davidson Electraglide Girl's Bike. Of course I'm only kidding about the girl's bike bit. But yep... I had been searching around for a while and finally found a deal on a bagger that had been very well maintained. We drove all the way just a little south of Tampa to take a look at this bike and decided to make a deal. And a successful one at that. On top of travelling this 1300 plus mile round trip to get this bike, we figured why not stop along the way say hi to the King of Weirdos (who needs to introduction) and some of his army. Shadetree Surgeon, Flip Na, and some others. Their links are down below.

Yeah, what you said: Less bling. No EFI. Shorter windshield. Slightly taller handlebars. Delete the Foghorn Leghorn mural on the front. All good. Great bike!

97 and 98 are the best years for the evo fl! All the accessories like seats and what not fit to 2007 so you can get any seat or exhaust your heart desires. Being an evo with only 20k it will last you a lifetime. Super comfy ride too! Great deal! The prices on evos and going through the roof! Everyone is starting to figure out how amazing and simple they are.

Great score. Evo baggers are great travelers. Your wife will be comfortable and you can roll 600 plus miles a day if you need to and not feel horrible after doing it. I recommend riding it for a while like it is (other than tires) I bet you'll end up changing less on it than you're thinking now. Old Shadetree sure is a colorful character, his channel is pretty popular.

When you got there, I was surprised at how nice that bike is. It`s definitely going to make a very nice ride, once you lighten it up a little. Quite a few years ago I bought a 1969 Moto Guzzi Amabassador from a non motorcycle guy out in Denver. It had belonged to his uncle who passed away. It was all farmer`ed up and once all that stuff was removed, I had a mint condition Guzzi that I enjoyed for quite a few years.Your bike will be the same way, good buy!

I own a 1996 Softail and a 1997 Electraglide both great machines. I would highly recommend you pull the cam bearing and all 4 lifters. They give out and will ruin a perfectly good motor. I have seen what they can do when they give out and will tear up a great bike. Use a torrington/koyo cam bearing and S & S or Fueling lifters. Good luck with a "Mans Bike".

That thing reminds me of my grandmothers 63 biscayne station wagon it was painted white with flowers on it. Could take it anywhere in comfort but it had way more flash than my taste for what it was. I’ve got a hunch the chicken on the fairing is probably why I’m reminded of that car.

Looks like the Road Glide I found in 99". Small damage to the front end so, I stripped the front faring, extended to front forks about 6 inches for the look, and stripped everything off the rear. I did a custom candy red with light grey ghost flames and 60 spokes wheels with 14' riser handle bars and braded cables. with Sampson pipes......You know....A guys bike!....Now I have a Heritage Classic I wouldn't change a thing...lol....I mean what the hell, love what you ride and have fun.

I had a 93 dresser and I put a switch on it so it turned off all the lights when I turn the ignition on and then I start the motor and then I’d flip the switch on and that would turn all the lights on it sure helped it start without having all the lights on. You never know what somebody has done to the gearing turned out my 93 had a 29 tooth transmission sprocket it would takeoff pretty good. I am just switching to a 34 to less RPM is on the road

  • @kennethwise7108

Good thing it's got a carb on it, congrats! I wouldn't trade it for a brand new Milwaukee 8. Be careful about the rear swing arm, they're prone for breaking along the elongated portion of the drive side. Wouldn't hurt to put FXR style adjusters on the inside of the fork tubes for reinforcement purposes. Also make a tapered spacer that covers the entire surface of the rear fork tube. Also run a MU85 Dunlop and change your fork oil every 10k miles. I run a hydraulic primary tensioner from Southern Oregon Hot Bikes (HB-125) and it makes the bike run much smoother. I've done MANY upgrades to my 1998 over the years and probably the best was swapping out the transmission to that of early twin cam internals and trap door with larger bearings on the door itself. While there I upgraded to a Baker shifter pawl and Baker drum. It shifts like butter now and I no longer hit false neutrals. The motor Company used the same shifter drum assembly dating back to 1979. In 2000 they finally improved upon it significantly however the Baker one is even more improved upon.

My 94 bagger didn't have 30,000 miles on it and lifter took a dump. I bought mine for $1000 with noise coming from bottom end, took it apart and found the bad lifter.

Just found your channel from Scotty. Seeing your trailer trip to Tampa, just in case you didn’t know that tailgate is what adds so much drag when pulling it. Take it off and carry just a ramp to load your bike. You won’t believe the difference and your fuel savings could be 30%. Really like your channel!

You're gonna love that bike. Leave it like it is, lights and all. Replace the battery, get new tires, and paint that fairing.

I have noticed the low end torque difference between those years and the newer years. They run out of steam in the higher gears but slower speeds they have some punch. Definitely a different experience for sure. I’m sure you will enjoy it

Sheridan Isashitstain Lol... ok I will bite... I have only ridden stock evo’s and owned two, both low mileage and bone stocks. I have had 5 twin cams of various sizes and one M8. Not sure what you are getting at but I assume you know more than me.

In Australia the FLHS after 92 come with a 61 rear sprocket whick keeps the bike on the boil a bit better at cruising speeds.
I did 100 K on mine bog stock traveling around Australia and it was fine as a cruiser.

Mate, I'm the owner of two stripped down bikes and I love what you bought. Change your cockpit, sure, but leave the accessories. Good to have variation. Sweet looking bike.
