That was impressive, how much she was charging at idle! Like you pointed out, it looks like the old stator had a couple of windings that looked suspiciously dark. I'm 100% with you on changing out the regulator at the same time. It's like front end parts on a car. If you just change out one worn out part, you can take it to the bank that the "good" tie rod or ball joint that you leave on the other side will fail quick, fast, and in a hurry. Parts that work together should get replaced together, even if only one actually failed. Everything from your lights to your ignition will be a lot happier with that good, strong, consistent voltage. Scotty has shown how much beefier the Cycle Lectric stators are compared to the cheap knockoffs, and now you just showed us how beefy they are compared to the HD part. Good videos like this make it easy to make up my mind to spend the money on the good parts. Thanks for takin us along for the ride, Tramp

Corey, I find myself missing the "open road". Somehow, this video helps console my soul some and points me in a direction that will put me out there again. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Thanks for Sharing!
Nice work brother. I’ve done many electrical and charging system repairs in my time, and when I was on the tools full time, I use to enjoy diagnosing and repairing wires and stuff. I too hate interstate roads. Here in Australia, I’ll stay as far off the highway as possible. Better roads, better scenery and sure it takes longer, but more time on the bike is never a bad thing.
Went that route on my 97 Heritage. Getting those two small screws that secure the connector feeding out of the primary was a huge pain. It was good to see you and the Mrs at the campout.
Older bikes don’t always mean “work”. I’m an Evo rider too. Maintain that sumbich, love it and give it a bathe every so often and she’ll give you more love than your ole lady. My pops told me years ago that when it comes to Evo’s, don’t mess with’er. Let it stay stock, maybe a cam but keep it real. She will last you till forever. He wasn’t wrong. Still riding mine. 🤘🏼
Well brother, i encountered your videos starting with the cam swap video. I traded my Victory (most reliable bike ive owned) for a 86 FLT in great shape and i absolutely love it! Keep the ckntent coming!
Awesome video! Makes me want to pack up and go! Love love love it! First time I haven't been triggered hearing bikes lol since my wheels are not touching the pavement yet!
5:52 @@SaddleTrampTV hey so what's the brand of the gasket sealer or maker you mentioned in one of your videos? Finally got enough parts to start putting my girl back together!
When you installed your new stator, how did you go about getting the rubber plug to go through the hole in the case? It was a mighty pain when I did mine, until I tied a length of twine around the plug and pulled from through the whole outside the case....popped right in, clipped the twine, mission accomplished. But until the twine idea, that plug WAS NOT going into that hole far enough.
Scooter Tramp Scotty put a new cycle electric stator or regulator on his and he said it didn't last long which isn't normally the case for cycle electric so I'm curious to see what experience you have.. I see a bare frame in the background, what you planning on build next?? A long and low chopper would be killer or attractive the Dick Allen, South Bay, sugar bear style is my favorite

I fill my right first so that my left won't try to spill over as it feeds more fuel from the crossover tube. It can be real messy on my shovel if I don't do it that way being it's kick only.
I have a question for Mrs. Saddletramp. You don't let Saddletramp video you but you let @dirtymortorcyclevagabond record you for his video. We don't get to see enough of you.
For those of you who have never pushed a Softail, it weighs around 750 pounds on a flat surface, 750 tons uphill. My coil went south on me right after I went a half mile downhill. Three hours later I managed to get to the top of the hill again and laid the bike down. First time ever on its side and me gasping for air on my back. No fun...
I have a friend who road cross country every year on his Heritage , late 90’s model. Then one time the carb body cracked and left him with a bad day. Now it sits next to his pan and shovel collecting dust. They look mint though.

Heat and vibration breaks down the insulation of copper coils and causes them to short out. Hence you are broke down.
