    Just a heads up. The solenoid pressure release valve is "normally closed", so if it's at temp or above 100C and you disconnect it form power (or have a power outage) it will cause a big vaccum as it cools that can damage the sensors and maybe the pressure vessel (and make it impossible to open). Beware. If it gets turned off (for ANY reason) while 100C to 135C be sure to pry it open at like 100C or 98C. If you let it cool to 50C or lower you're in for a nightmare. Also, the welds rust and will eventually fail (iron in cheap welding rods). Don't run it to death for the manufacturer's suggested full life expectancy (7 years) and expect no issues. Get the pressure vessel x-rayed at some point to check the welds. Also, don't over pack it with bags (8 x 5 lbs bags at most!). They need to breathe to allow air to escape from the centre of each bags (3-4 seconds open, 2 minutes closed cycle - at a minimum) and thus prevent this dense air from insulating the core of the bags from the hot steam getting into the center of each bag. Otherwise, contams will be your friend and you won't even see it! lol Do an online autoclave course from a government or university. 99% of people learning about mushrooms from youtube do not have ANY formal training in mycology/autoclaves/etc Learn from professionals before teaching others, please.

    • @OakandSpore
      @OakandSpore  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's some solid information! I let the autoclave cool completely on its own before I turn the power off. There's never a vacuum when I open it. Do you have a recommended course to take? I found venting too much air was causing the bags to explode. It was a mess.

      @@OakandSpore Maybe research some Universities on your time zone (or nearly so) and pay the ~$400-$700 to "Audit" a course on Lab techniques/equipment, etc (no official credit, but you'll get the education). Some governments (like Canada) offer FREE, federally recognized, on-line, courses in Lab Safety, etc as modules you can do at you're own pace and time.

    I have enjoyed your information tremendously and how you have shown your transition in growth. Unfortunately your farm is moving large scale and for a regular guy like myself is a few years away.
    What I'm saying is your sense of humor and more creative videos I enjoyed tremendously. Informative and entertaining.
    I get it, I'm high maintenance, I suspect I'm not the only one.

    Off topic question, how long does your substrate blocks take to colonise? I'm in Australia and also experimenting with softwood masters mix , seems to be taking a while to colonise, wondering if it's a trait of the softwood or a different variable, temp, spawn ratio etc.

    Question: Do you filter your intake air (HEPA or otherwise)? I know you precondition it, but is it filtered to keep out the baddies, or is doing so unecessary for a grow room?

    if you use ratchet straps on your steamer tank you wont need to use those huge weights on top
    you can also put 90 degree angle pieces of aluminium on the side corners of your tank & wrap 2 straps around it to help keep as much steam in as possible.
    (the 90 degree angle pieces will keep the foam board from crushing)

    I am just about to start fruiting my first bags, I have 8 different strains do you think that is to many or is good for a sale stand point
    I have a few friends and family that will buy around 10kgs a week so far there happy with only a few different types what are you thoughts on it
    I also got a cheap pressure canner and hated it lol so now I have a all american so much better but costly to get in australia

    Another great video... really appreciate the knowledge. I'm having a hard time finding info regarding PLCs running single phase fan motors at different speeds. Is your setup 3-phase power with PLC to VFD to fan motor? I'm looking for a cost efficient solution without 3-phase power, but not finding anything. Thanks for all you do!

    • @OakandSpore
      @OakandSpore  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My fans are single phase. If you use a EC fan you can easily control the speed with a 0-10v input. 10v makes fan go fast, 0v makes fan stop.

    A few questions.
    When you first started how did you keep fruiting room and incubation room in correct temps? My tent and incubation will be in a barn building. Without heating inside.
    How did you find your customers? Like wholesale and restaurants. For me the hardest part I feel like would be delivering these large amount of mushrooms. Say hypo technically. You get 20 restaurants buying 5 pounds of mushrooms for 40€. That’s 800 a week right. But delivering to 20 a week is very very labor intensive. I don’t know myself well enough to know if that’s sustainable. What’s your advice for a solution to this. Am I targeting the wrong demographic and because of that making my life harder?
    Also how does a typical flush cycle look. Like how do you make sure that you get to the amount of production you need per week. Like when do you prepare new incubation bags. When do you put in fruiting to maintain say a production of 30kg per week how does something like that look in terms of workflow. And execution.
