You Won't Believe How Much Mushroom Can You Grow In 1m²!

- In this video, we look at the production capabilities of my mushroom fruiting rooms here at the farm, plus we also go into how many square meters you need to meet specific mushroom production requirements.
Mushroom Fruiting rooms are most probably the most important part of a small mushroom growing facility or farm. Being able to grow a set amount of mushrooms each week to meet customer requirements is imperative. To meet these demands you will need to calculate exactly how much space you need.
We estimate the baseline of mushroom production per square meter is around 6.5kg/m² moving up past 10kg/m² for a more intensive room. A lot of this is strain-dependent, and some strains will yield more or less. Here at the Oak and Spore Farm we regularly get 7.8kg/m2/week, and find that's a very achievable target.

Hi, awesome video! Would you be willing to share your production calculation spreadsheet from this video?
This is a really great idea... my colleague never approve of me experimenting closed environment grow chamber... I could have a lot of shelves this way too.
Thanks for the videos, I frequently revisit them. What are the dimensions of your shelves?
Great inspiration. The 4.2m surely must be added to for moveability m2. I am starting a fungi farm in Manchester UK. I need all the help I can get.
You help a lot especially the spreadsheet at the end
Really can't thank you enough for sharing the knowledge you have gained! it is such a great help. I've subscribed immediately 👌👍🤘🤙
Thanks mate!

I have watched your videos many times because I am starting my own mushroom op after 25 years as a hobbyist. May I ask what software you are using to track spending/profits? CHEERS!
Man I love your attitude... when you said about hitting a wall if you don’t build your room big enough shows that you’re forward thinking... I love it. I think about shutting down my machine shop and starting to grow mushrooms instead
Thanks mate! Mushroom farming is a good career, but it defiantly has its challenges.
@@OakandSpore try owning a bunch of CNC machines... I’ll swap ya any day. My missus would move back to NZ in a heartbeat, so if you wanna go to OZ and run a machine shop, lets swap....
Amazing content. You're very inspiring!
Thanks!
Great video there, question is how do you water the mushrooms
Thanks for the videos Tom. What would some example uses for spent substrate be?
compost!
This Guy - ROCK !
honestly
You missed your calling you should be in movies. so funny to watch. Love it
Nice video, i would like to ask if what is the size of your mushroom shelves?
How much does each bag weigh? Are those 5lb or 10lbs?
Hey thanks for all your information and advice. I was wondering what brand those shelves are. Im in aus so might be more available here. Its hard to find wire racking with high load bearing wheels.

I've been watching a number of videos from you over the past few days. Do you have a video on harvesting spores, and inoculating grain bags?
I get my from an online store, they got shroom, psychedelic and microdosing products well refined, also ships to anywhere

Im personally interested in cloning because cloning will give you better genetics than spores

Hello! First of all, thank you for sharing your experience with us so willingly. You're doing an amazing job! I'm planning to open my own mushroom business soon. Is your excel calculator available somewhere? Can you share it with us? best regards, good luck!
What shelves are these BTW? Thanks for your videos they've been really helpful and fun!
they are coolroom shelves
Did I miss the link to that fancy spreadsheet?! I'd love to poke around.
THANKS!!
Oh yeah I already asked about the spreadsheet! Is it secret?! I want it!! Pleasseee!!
Hello there! You've done an amazing job here; I can see you've made significant progress in the mushroom business! Is there any chance you could share those Excel files with us?
Also I was reading a paper done on white button mushrooms, so I dont know how well it applies to other types, but they found that the substrate not directly under the mushroom (this would be for top fruiting) doesnt have much of an effect on the mushrooms growth. Where as deeper trays produced more fruit per square foot. BUT per volume of substrate they found that shallow depths gave the most fruit per lb of substrate. Example- a 1'x1'x1' cube of substrate would produce less mushrooms than a 2'x.1'x.5' block.
@nicholasalbert7028? Tf are you talking about bro?
hi, where can i find that paper? :) ty
Makes sense to me. I was wondering about scaling up to a big 500l farm sileage bag and use 25 kg of substrate in a van.
Is there fresh air path around the house or tent ?
Anyway I could get the excel template to experiment with numbers firsthand?
Where did you get the shelves from? I'm in Slovakia and we have the same issues.
lovethe video
Awesome! Have you thought about putting the carts sideways in there and having your walkway on the side of the room?
No, but that's a good idea! I use them length ways because sometimes you need to get a cart our from the back, and having to move all of the ones in front is a pain
that will not work very well, plot it out on graph paper first (one square per sqft)
Hi Tom! Great video thanks! What is the weight of your blocks?
Between 5-6kg
Thanks! The US guys always post that they get 100% BE on their blocks and that they get between 2 and 3 pounds on their first flush, so I was just wondering about the 1kg per 3 week fruiting cycle that you speak about.
Hi..when you say 1week flush 1 you mean that the starting point is already inoculated bags...right? Bottom line from bag filling to yield total cycle is 45-60 days...?
Nice spreadsheet!
It's a good spreadsheet :p
How many hours of labour per week do you require? Perhaps a better question would be how many square meters could 1 person manage with 40 hours per week? Doing mixing, innoculation and fruiting? Great video 👍👍
Mark lightning block
I got a question? What would happen if more holes for fruiting were added to the bags? Like on the sides, would that cause the mushrooms to be smaller, seems like with all the mycelium alot of fruiting potential is lost?
Thanks
Thanks for sharing :)
Have you analysed the amount of labour in hours needed dimensioned by square meter or yield?
Yes my calculator handles labour, but its fairly subjective to setup and work ethic.
@@OakandSpore thanks, yeah on your spreadsheet it looked like it was a fixed value, it didn't seem to change as you changed the other values.
Is this correct?
Or is it a calculated value?
Get cool stuffs ☝️☝️ from my TH-cam title
It doesn't change. At the bottom it has a recommended labour value, but the true value is fixed at your employment rate and generally doesn't change like your inputs and outputs do.
@@OakandSpore would be interesting to know how much time you need to budget for based on m2 and yield.
nice work keep up
Thanks!
Cheers how do you bag up substrate by hand or machine ?
Blend it with machine, fill bags by hand
Can I ask what the weight of your production blocks are please
thanks for this information. please can you send me information on how to sell my produce after harvesting. Am in Nigeria. thanks
Can you just use indirect natural light cycles instead of usng lights ? They they need absolute blackout conditions?
Tom, when the shelving units are in stock in NZ where do you buy them from. No luck up here north of Auckland.

How big are those bags? 5LB?
Your walls are made of what kind of material? They've special features?
They are the same type of walls as walk in chillers are made from.
Subbed
I have 200 sq ft of space in my basement. im planning on using growtents 8'x4' x 6' high. 4 for incubation, 4 for fruiting.
Would it make sense to do large poly tube logs and hang them from over head racks?
That’s what I was thinking
What are the walls, ceiling and floor made out of?
wondering this too. looks like frp panels but wondering how they are structured- with framing walls or if they are standalone panels?
Your mushroom farm roofing sheet name?
Does the spread sheet come with the course?
yes!
Amazing content! Thanks for all! One question though. When you mentioned you get 1kg/block, do you get it per flush or is the sum of both flushes? Cheers
Sum of both flushes on average. Usually around 700-800g first, and 200-300g second
@@OakandSpore thanks and looking forward for the profit calculator
@@OakandSpore how many kg of substrate are in your bags?
5.4kg on average
@@OakandSpore 5,4kg at 60% added water, that means you have 2,16kg of solids.
If are harvesting close to 1kg in two flushes you have under 50% biological efeciency, right? Shouldn't be higher? I went visit a guy that claimed 120% BE on pleurotus ostreatus in two flushes. I read in Paul Stamets book that for Pleurotus ostreatus a 100% BE can be achieved.
In my farm I am worse. My bags are 6kg, 16% supplementation (wheat bran) and got in 2 flushes 900gr.
This week I put into fruiting 6kg, 30% supplementation (rice bran). I want to achieve 1 kg in the first flush.
Can you post a template of your excel sheet?
What racks u running tom?
