  • In this episode, we do a short mic shootout on a bodhran and then Ryan gets to know Josh Jernigan - the percussionist from the Irish-Americana-Folk group, Wendell. All mic-shootout audio in this video was tracked live from the mic shown into an X-32 board with no added EQ, compression, or effects. Filmed and recorded at Tuneden Live in Nashville, TN.

Great discussion - Ronan was also one of my inspirations and some great feedback on mic's. Im also interested in clip on mics to the Bodhran (wired / wireless).

I'm trying to figure out how to mic a McNeely bodhran also. Did you try the gooseneck mic that Paraic McNeely sells on his website ?

nice mic shootout but idk if the mic levels were mixed properly, sounded like it was peaking quite a bit on the accents

Thanks for stopping by! The bodhran audio was recorded straight into the board with no additional eq, compression, or effects to give an accurate representation of each mic as-is. Gain levels were not clipping at the time of recording and on review on 2 sets of studio monitors, we can't hear any clipping. When you say accents, do you mean the low-end down beats or the top-end up beats?
