I recently met Joe. Humble to core. He actually took time to explain to me - a total stranger - his playing technics and gave a personal demonstration. His performance in the concert I saw him in was phenomenal but the time he took to interact with a lay person to explain his art is something I will not forget soon.
He is just one of the better people on earth. Working man whose trade is the drum. A kinder person you’re seldom to meet. Your story is no surprise to me. He would cross the road to give you the shirt off his back x
It'd be an honor to meet with and work with this guy I produce and record music in the states. Played with Bodhran a bit as a child and have been watching this video religiously for years. I show this to everybody when I tell them about this amazing drum from the motherland. Much love and respect God Bless.
Of course when I realized it was the great micheal mcgoldrick. So lovely to hear and watch a country that treasures it's music so much. It is wonderful the sing the songs, learn about the history and wonderful to be apart of.
Hahaha...god almighty...a master is in the room! This is so awesome! It's like a tabla solo...just the best bodhran player. Best wishes from across the Irish Sea...
Le bodhran est vraiment un instrument incroyable et félicitation a ces musiciens qui on travaillé dur pour arriver jusque ici surtout le jouer de bodhran!!!
They can have an incredible range. I can get a similar range out of one of mine. Mind you not with the patterns like he does, but I can follow the full range.
This stirs my soul my ancestors my true ancestors of this land of the once free no wonder the romans built a wall rather than face us now see it crumble mother earth is the power one love
I'm speechless. These guys are great. And that John Joe Kelly on the Bodhran is out of this world. The best I think I have ever heard on that little drum. Thanks for sharing that with the world. The proud tradition of Ireland.
When I first started to listen to this drummer, I know I was wearing socks! but he knocked them off halfway through his solo! All three of these musicians are great!
Yea but the Bodhran sets the beat the rythem and when you have Michael McGoldrick on whistle the harmony between all is sublime! These guys are the best and they rock!
I love the Bodhran, and John Joe is an excellent player, but I wish the Bodhran was louder. He is hard to hear among the other instruments. I've noticed this with other Bodhran recordings also. Perhaps it is a limitation of the recording devices?
I'm blown away. I wish I still had my Bodhran, but I could never compete with that. The best I can do these days is remenisce with a pencil against my palm.
Wow amazing gift u hav John joe, saw u years ago in small viliage I east limerick playing with Marcus Moloney on banjo , must b nearly 20 years ago , u bring a new meaning to that instrument ,
Gods' holy Trousers!! Who is that guy? He's simply the most phenomenal bodhran player I've ever seen!! I'd be happy to just play half as good as that!! WOW!! 👏👏👏👏👏
I loved that, thanks for uploading. I bought my daughter an 18" bodhran kit in the hope she plays that well. Eldest on gutar, husband on tin whistle and youngest on bodhran. One day :-) will happen.
I'll never find a bodhrán joke funny again. That was brilliant. There's a lot of great bodhrán playing on youtube, but I think that's the best I've seen.
I' m from México, and I love the sound of Irish music, specially bodhran makes me feel so excited, I enjoy a lot this great performance!!!
Yo también

Pure God given gift to this Genius. " May he never lose the use of his hands "
I'm a Scot and this gives me the shivers ans much as any Scots song or bagpipe music. I so love my Irish Brothers band Sisters.
Stewart Ross same goes for the bagpipes
That's so sweet. I would hug you!
Stewart Ross thatch pub co on Shannon
God Bless you. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hello ! I want to know about the flute please. What's it name please? :) thanks and the Lord bless you
As a player of the Bodhran myself, I can say the technical difficulty of the rhythm he produces is astronomical.
I love your name...are you Swedish? Norwegian?
Bjorn Njordson ..shut up, nobody asked you
The rhythm may be great but his playing has no colour or surprises.
@@billiejohns6270 I kind of thought the same. Seemed rather boring to me overall. It just kind of droned on.
True mastery
That moment at 6:15 when he switched the tipper round in his hand without missing a beat...magic.
Forget the modern stuff. This fab,j❤
Irish traditional music is just beautiful

That man's wrists must be made of some space-age material, because that was AMAZING
So freaking unbelievably good. I will watch that a million times.
Never heard such a beautiful round sound from a tin whistle before. Total class!
Sounds like a silver one. There are some.
Listen to the lonesome boatman by davey Arthur and the furys 👍
@@aaronc9952 Me mother loves the Loansome Boatman!
@@manthasagittarius1 It's an aluminium whistle made by Colin Goldie.
Ah, then the silver's in the hands and the heart. 😊
Gosh, he makes the bodhrán sound like such an exotic instrument. Amazing!
This is so great, aside from the incredible bodhran player the man on the pipe has incredible phrasing.
It's the great Michael McGoldrick
@@Musicotier he sure is
This was the most magical eight minutes of my day! Week, even!
This man is an absolute legend of the game! I hardly breathed for the entire time he was playing.
Wow Bodhran is amazing, I didn't hear about it until a few days ago. I'm surprised of the variety of tones it has. Sorry, bad English
You're English is perfect!
Your English is great mate (with love from Manchester)! And yes the Bodhran is amazing!
@@Daisy-ct3nh Yours isn't! (You are English is perfect?)

I have a new respect for this instrument 👍👍👍
Absolutely amazing!! He's definitely the best bodhran player I've ever heard!! :)
Irish music is so amazing. Love listening to it.

John.this sooooo beautifull
Actually it was my husband, Steve Brear, who had the pleasure of playing next to John Joe!
This guy is phenomenal. If I ever get a chance to see him live, I won't miss it.
Truly one of the best I have ever heard!
Amazing. I never knew the boron could produce so many different tones when somebody so talented plays it. Love it.
They can have an incredible range. I can get a similar range out of one of mine. Mind you not with the patterns like he does, but I can follow the full range.
The bodhran solo is incredible! I want to learn how to do that!
Great performance...I have seen John playing on bodhrán with Flook band live in Prague. They were amazing.
Seen John Joe with Flook several times. Best bodhran player. Amazing sounds in a live performance, it echoes round an auditorium.

To the MSM controllers and their devout lib leftie worshipers, what you are witness to is definitely.... 'White privilege'... LOL
@@Blogengezer WTF are you on about? 😂
I'm starting to learn how to play, and this is certainly a man to look up to for his skill.
When I first started to listen to this drummer, I know I was wearing socks! but he knocked them off halfway through his solo! All three of these musicians are great!
I had a teacher from Donegal and she taught us tin whistle, we used to do irish dancing too and this brought me back 🤍
That was amazing. What talent. Surely he's the best Bodhran player ever yeah?
Yea but the Bodhran sets the beat the rythem and when you have Michael McGoldrick on whistle the harmony between all is sublime! These guys are the best and they rock!
I used to know John Joe when I lived in Manchester many years ago.A very nice fella.

The very best player in the world and such an awesome friendly guy had the pleasure of playing next to him in Kerry a few years ago so supportive!
Wonderful. Sheer joy. Artiste, I salute you.
Oh my god, he makes me want to learn, I was drawn to this when I was small 🙈
I'm blown away. I wish I still had my Bodhran, but I could never compete with that. The best I can do these days is remenisce with a pencil against my palm.
I do believe the Irish invented blast beats...
😲🥰 I LOVE the style of this guy! With greetings, Bernadette Born.
I love the passion these musicians play with!!M
This guy is the Neil Peart of the Bodhran.
BUT ... I am the Bob Ross of youtube comments
Hard to imagine how 121 people didn't like that!
Amazing stuff indeed, just getting back into the bodhrán meself 🇮🇪👍
This is a hell of performance

It's like Michael Shrieve at Woodstock. There's no point in comparisons; it's beyond any praise or critique. You give thanks for it.

Oh my world!!!! Genius drumming!
Thank you for posting it. Mesmerizing!
SO much better than the usual half-arsed drum solos that go on until your teeth bleed. Brilliant.

Very well shot video, as you can see a lot of the left hand technique as well as the right. And brilliant playing, of course!
