ICYMI: Sheldon Menery shares a thought experiment about a Modular Banned List for 100-card Magic. articles.starcitygames.com/select/the-concept-of-a-modular-banned-list-for-commander/
Can you guys please make sure to always go overhead when they are playing cards so we can see what they are? When Steven played his enchantment at 16:00 I didn't have a clue what they were talking about, then Jeremy mentioned the card name and I had to pause, go back and listen real careful to try to type in the name to go check out the card. Even tho some people might know what the cards are, a lot don't.
@@MunchKING Yeah, he was reading what it did but not the actual card name, Jeremy mentioned it but I couldn't hear what he said properly so had to pause, rewind, listen again and google it to make sure.
I think calling it 'a bit weird' is being generous. I don't want to sound like I'm picking on the director but the editing has certainly been worse lately than it has been previous. Many cards aren't shown on screen so I don't know what they are and the camera lingers on players for a long time even after the next person starts their turn. There was an entire turn cycle where the camera never cut to the wide shot of the table so I couldn't see what was in play.
Steven was complaining about the lands deck but I think it is a cool idea with maybe a different five color commander one that cares about lands or lands as creatures.
I haven't finished the episode yet but already one of my favorites. These guys seem to really be having fun. The nonsense from that land deck, and the Interdict out of nowhere... so great
#teamParnell! I've been looking forward to see the bell ever since Stephen published it on his twitter, and it was darn worth the wait. Great games too btw, take care guys!
@@NinjaOfTheBlue I'm not a rules expert and haven't seen Gambit much but it doesn't read that way to me. Jeremy's commander gave the +2/0 when creatures attacked John, but the Gambit took them out of combat, so no bonus, then when in the entirely separate combat phase Justin declares at Jeremy so no +2/0. Maybe I misunderstood Gambit, though.
@@timlanigironu it doesn't matter that Gambit removes them from combat, what matters is the creatures received the buff from Gahiji when they were declared as attackers and that the buff will last until the end of the turn, regardless if they are removed from combat.
@@JParnell1 Genju of the Realms is an Aura that attachs to a land and allows the land to turn into a creature. Since the land is what's doing damage it won't be able to deal Commander damage since Genju is just an Aura. So if you wanted to avoid Commander Damage altogether Genju would've been a solid choice.
Echoing other comments to please bring up all cards when they're played. Some I might know, but particularly in decks like these when more niche cards are being played, being able to see the card as it's played is really helpful.
Yes! :) We always publish these to our website shortly after the videos go live. Here is a link: articles.starcitygames.com/video/commander-vs-266-random-riveting-decks/
Justins deck seems like a monoblack version of my Shattergang Bros deck that's built as a Jund token deck which i would give my left kidney to see him play.
Hello! Last time I checked, we were using Ultra Pro Katana sleeves. You can find those here: starcitygames.com/ultimate-guard-katana-sleeves/?sku=SUP-UGD-SLV-KATANA-BLACK
Actually they are forced to play it, you can’t see the dark forces who make them play behind the scenes often but if you watch enough you will catch glimpses of them. Between games they are put in cages and given only old copies of Scry and Inquest to read.
Coliseum of Susan Surandomondium idea: "Random Acts of..." and the options are Violence and Kindness. Each player brings one hug deck and one slug deck to the Susan of laziness.
@@liddantheone well exactly? the land he targetted was no longer a valid target when it came to it on the stack, shouldn't the whole spell not resolve?
@@Mrbuzzfuzz my bad, I was unclear. It has to have zero legal targets to not resolve. It still had the artifact, creature and enchantment as legal targets. Edit: so there are different requirements between a spell being cast (put on the stack) and it resolving (from the stack).
Also, I feel like everyone got a very "them" deck this week. Jon with Mono blue control, Jeremy with big stompy creatures, Stephen casting lands, and Justin sacrificing creatures.
Ngl, I'm actually curious about the deck made for Stephen Green - always wanted to make a manlands deck and without Golos this should prove interesting
I just put together a Noyan Dar deck that is very effective. It just all cantrips and interaction, each instant and sorcery into a land creature. Pretty effective
Shouldn't Stephen have 20 points (gaining 4 points) at the end of the episode? 1 point from first blood and 3 points from finishing second. Afaik torment of hailfire resolves in turn order, which would mean Jeremy would have died first getting third place and then Stephen would have died getting second place. And Jeremy should have 14 points (also gaining 4 points) at the end of the episode, right? 2 points from finishing third, 1 point for casting commander 4 times and 1 point from Justin's win.
Even if Jeremy loses life first, he doesn't die until State Based Actions are checked after the spell completes. At that point, Stephen is also below 0, and they tie.
I can get on board with John being a good player but the sheer amount of time he holds up the game with saying he has a response when he literally has nothing and just wants to hold the game up, is way too high. 😂😂
I do not. Giving someone Grey Ogre as a commander is pretty garbage in the randomonium. That's something you should just do for yourself. The other 3 decks were way more interesting.
Jon constantly saying other people's cards are the worst after he spent several turns looping ghostly flicker, mnemonic wall and scourge of fleets is perhaps the biggest instance of hypocrisy I've heard whilst watching a TH-cam video. Even though it ultimately cost him the game, I'm so glad Stephen took Jon out

awww this came up in my recommendation list. miss you justin

Yeah did they just give up on displaying the cards as they are played?
To be fair to that one, Steven WAS reading the card as he played it.
@@MunchKING Yeah, he was reading what it did but not the actual card name, Jeremy mentioned it but I couldn't hear what he said properly so had to pause, rewind, listen again and google it to make sure.
So what was it?
The editing last weeks has been a bit weird. I miss seeing the table and the cards you play more often
agreed, i am struggling to know what is going on even...
I think calling it 'a bit weird' is being generous. I don't want to sound like I'm picking on the director but the editing has certainly been worse lately than it has been previous. Life totals don’t get updated until quite a bit later, the life total overlay disappears a lot. Hard to imagine anybody else being a worse director.
Agreed! Please do something to fix the editing, the show is so much harder to watch.
Yh I thought this around the 17 min mark the camera just stays on Justin while he plays like 3 cards
Justin: Everyone has a deck from someone else
Justin like 20 seconds later: Jon has his own deck
I think he meant they all had different people's decks, rather than one person having both their decks in the game.
Steven was complaining about the lands deck but I think it is a cool idea with maybe a different five color commander one that cares about lands or lands as creatures.
Child of alara would be a good one

Really funny episode! Loved the creature land deck was so unique!
I don't get overly excited often, but I just about jumped out of my chair when Justin opened Kuon. One of my personal favorite decks at home.
The combat with the Illusionist's Gambit, Jeremy would have taken 11 because his commander triggers on declaration of attack.
Doesn't the Gambit say remove from combat and there is an additional combat step, so it's a new declaration?
@@timlanigironu It still triggered to begin with because the attackers were declared and gambit specifies in the declare blockers step.

Was coming to say the same thing, this hurt to watch, especially because he could have turned them all at Stevie for +4/0
I always loved this format of the susan surandom. thanks for bringing it back! i guess that's the in studio magic
The fact that Gahiji's name is misspelled in the frame is bugging me to no end.
This is the first ever episode that I have watched in which Justin wins a game.
1:33:00, do you sacrifice burgeoning or do you sac song of creation to do a burgeoning/life from the loam engine?
This is by far my favorite Ranharmonicon that I have ever watched!! Good job guys!!!!
Points belong at the beginning of the episode, especially if you are not going to update the points graphic at then end of the episode!
Are the decklists somewhere I could check out that list Stephen is playing
Here you go! articles.starcitygames.com/video/commander-vs-266-random-riveting-decks/
I'm not 100% sold on the new video format...HOWEVER the expressions given by Jeremy and Justin have made the experiment worth it for this episode!!!
Could have used Genju of the Realms for Justin's manland deck. Ive been told they're allowed to do what they want after all.
The part your missing is that I didn't want anyone to win with Commander damage for any reason.
@@JParnell1 Genju of the Realms is an Aura that attachs to a land and allows the land to turn into a creature. i like how Stephen has 25 lands and Justin is telling him how to tap his lands lmao 1:38:10
It's so beautiful
Spoilers
Is this Justin's first win in 2021? I honestly can't remember the last time he's won. Give the man mono-black and good things happen.

Oh boi, another beast deck for Jeremy 😂
Jon with the angle shooting to get Jeremy to use his StP before playing the combat trick. Jon s certainly an old school magic player circa 1997.
Please do more table view. Love the player view but knowing what’s going on is why we here lol
I have been brewing the mainland deck for the lolz. Nice to see it see some love

What is with the life total font change? 🤔
Justin's thrulls entered while Tainted Aether was still on the battlefield

At 28:52 wouldn’t Justin’s commander flip since everyone sacrificed a creature?
No because only 2 were sacrificed
The arena of the arbitrary episodes are always the best.
Jonathan Suarez cheating on camera with mana and lands. Shame! Can't hide from the camera, forever recorded in history. GG guys.
1:37:15 now thats the sound of a topdeck if i ever heard one
The Bell is nice, as long as it's used as an intro/ outro for the ring a bell part
Glad to see stevie got his bell on!🤪🛎🛎🛎🛎🛎🛎🛎🛎🛎🛎🛎🛎🛎
Are decklists not published anymore?
I want to make this Land Deck so badly now
I've got a good one for you guys, everyone build a deck, but only with cards that have a printing in a commander precon
does anyone know the deck lists? i really wanna try that lands are creatures deck.
Stephen should ring the bell every time he gets a point
or plays a land
23:30 just because they are removed from combat does not mean they loose +2 they have
Shouldn't Decimate fizzle since he bounced his land in response?
It only fizzles if it doesn't have any legal targets when it's time for it to resolve. You must have legal targets when putting it on the stack.

Can some one help me with how they score or lose points I lost the list and would like to have it again

The return of Bearded Jeremy shall herald the coming ruin.

I am happy for the return of actual Susan.
Director Dan needs to get on them life totals and point totals. 😂
I agree, he's chilling with some floppy taco and don't give a f about life totals
I was really pulling for Jon to finally win the game, but there were so many lock pieces in play. Everybody worked hard to shut him down near the end.
its Gahiji, not Gahaji, you guys spelled it wrong under Jeremy.
2 breakfast in 1, pancakes and an omelette? i just call that normal breakfast.
Perhaps Stephen's deck should run a few legendary lands?
I think Jeremy forgot to draw from the tusker
Why has the editing been so off what happened to the table view

shouldn't the mumming mystic that makes bird tokens died because of the fight?
It’s a 1/5! The beasts are only 4/4s
Great ending! Stephen had a choice to make and chose....poorly.

Could one of you do Nils, Discipline Enforcer as a commander please.
I don't mind the bell, oddly
I’m not complaining about it, but how many times has Gahaji been on commander vs now?
