I just finished rebuilding my rear suspension on my 2006 Honda Crf250r and this video helped tremendously as a proper step by step. The only issue I ran into, was pulling the shaft out with the old seal head and piston ring on. I had to use an old fence post puller and jimmy rig to be able to pull the shaft out straight without using a mallet. Otherwise I got my suspension completely dialed thanks to this video!
Great instructional videos Charles! Thank you for your communicative and concise videos! I just finished my fork rebuild and gold valve install last night and did my shock rebuild and gold valve yesterday as well, just waiting on a new bottom out bumper to be delivered today before I can put the shock back together, bleed it and take it to the shop to recharge nitrogen so I can reinstall on my bike.
The video shows 18 mins but you’re good at it. I’m a skilled mechanic so I’m thinking an hour the first time. I have a shop that says 2.5 hours and close to $500. They can kiss my …. Anyway what’s the real time to rebuild it once it’s on the bench? Great video and right to the point. No fluff talking about silly crap so I enjoyed it
I tried them others guy's videos..where you fill the resevoir then put the bladder in...then fill the canister and put the plunger in... I tried 5x, with 3 different videos. None of them worked... Your video worked. Thanks, you just made it so the last 6hrs of my life 1. Wasn't trash. and 2. Wasn't expensive, as it's like $200 at a dealer to have'm do it for ya or you can roll the dice for $100 on ebay.
Jacob Cragen what do you mean? I rebuild my shock using the other video RMatv posted when you put the oil in first then bladder then piston. Is that what your talking about? I did that and I somehow didn’t get the proper oil and got air stuck in it. Dod this video fix that problem?
I have everything done up until charging it with nitrogen. I filled it up with 130 PSI with my shock pump to test the return rate and check for leaks. It leaves a little oil where the seal was after returning. Is this because I dont have it fully charged and it is not sealing properly? I am confident I installed everything correctly. I dont want to have to take it apart again. Thanks
my sons 2000 XR250r feels like there is no oil left in the shock and it feels "springy" when we sit on the bike and work the rear suspension. Im assuming we have an oil leak issue. I bought the Clymer manual from you, but it doesnt say anything about disassembly of the shock. We are going to try and purchase the tools from your site, along with a replacement bump stop and the "All Balls Rear Shock Seal Kit". Can you tell me what shock oil we need, and what the correct Nitrogen PSI is to recharge the system afterwards? Any other tips or tricks would be appreciated. thanks!
I believe you're asking about the Race Tech Shock Clip Tool but the first link in the description of this video will take you to a page with all the parts and tools used in this video. Hope that helps!
You came on here to see how to hook up a coupler to a shrader valve and add 150psi? Lmfbo. 78% nitrogen in all air or 99% from a shop. I'll take my chances with mixed air in my shock, as the oem manual states compressed air can be substituted.
What's complicated about it?? As long as you have a few special tools like the seal bullet, etc - it's pretty much paint by numbers if you follow this video. I tackled my first shock service myself; then did it for 3 buddies since I enjoyed it so much

Nice work!!!!! Glad the video helped you out. Let us know how your suspension feels when you get a chance to ride on it.
Thank you very much for doing this video it allowed me to tear down and rebuild a gsxr 600 road race shock!
That's awesome! Glad the info translated over. -Charles
Do you have a video on a yfm350 Yamaha warrior thanks 🙋 that shock doesn't have the air fill stem
Another great 'how-to' video. Thanks Charles!

I'm trying to put a newer 06 showa on an older cr250 but need to swap the clevis, you guys have a video on that?
Just finished my front forks.. Now I'm addicted to suspension and might do this now (:
I am very Grateful for the information!!!
This shock looks very similar to the ones on the DRZ400 bikes. Are there any significant differences I should keep in mind?

This applies to the SHOWA MFF-A51 shock absorber?
Can you reuse the bladder?
You say high strength thread lock, is that Red or blue loctite?

my shock does not have the spring on the seal head but has the same type of seal? should it have that spring? I have a Showa shock for a 1994 rmx250.
Is drawing out nitrogen necessary when removing the shock?
The entire shock system in under pressure from the nitrogen. Not releasing this pressure could make a mess.
Heeey brooo, can i do the same work un my Honda trx450r 2006? Please do a video about it, or a how to do a maintenance :(

We filled ours with nitrogen to 165psi. -Charles
How much psi is the gas pressure for the YZ85 rear shock, sir?
@@ABCsuspention check the shock spec
Do you know what is the rear shock oil seal size of CB1300? I guess it is 11.6 * 24 * 5.

Can anyone know proces for reiger shock for gas gas plss
Hi, where do I find the original position of the emulator valve blades? I think the person who messed with it mounted wrong. Thank you
Do you know what oil viscosity need to have for the showa shock?
5w
How much psi you fill up ?
No word about adjusting the valving
What size seal bullet for 2017 crf450r? Thanks in advance 🙂

What do you set the nitrogen psi to?
Your service manual will give you the spec that is specific to your shock.
150 psi is fine
I went to fill my shock with fluid and it does not go into the shock unless I move the shaft. It just over flows what could be wrong?
Great video Charles!👍🏻 Definitely helps me out!! Keep up the good work. Rocky Mountain ATV MC videos 💯🔥 Thanx again 👊🏻
Glad it helped you out! Thanks for watching!
Lol and I thought the front forks were complicated
Yeh, your fork require like a 13cm air gap....a shock if u have any air at all, when you fill the bladder, the shock won't pop out.
Great video, there’s far too many “ands!”
Thx !
awesome... tanks
Repair cost VS new absober cost?. 😅
About $1,000 is the difference im pretty sure
What number parts do You need?😁
Hii
Yep going to send it to factory connection everytime. Way too much to bother with I’d rather re do a motor than deal with all that nonsense.
Great video, far too many “ands!”
Came here to see how to refill it with Nitrogen 🙁
Go do some searching online. There is a thread on Thumpertalk that may provide you with an alternative.

"and that's all there is to rebuilding your shock" all there is ... Looks pretty complicated bruh but thanks for the video anyway

Why would you say that? Charles does a great job of explaining things. You still need your service manual to do the job.
